Everton deal for Neto unlikely

Everton continue to be linked with Juventus' backup goalkeeper Neto but the Brazilian's agent has played down the prospect of a deal being struck.

The Blues picked up Ronald Koeman's compatriot Maarten Stekelenburg over the summer but didn't end up buying the player who would have been regarded as a long-term signing for between the posts that many were expecting.

Neto has been biding his time as back-up to Gianluigi Buffon at Juve and reports in Italy suggest he could be looking to move on given that the veteran doesn't appear close to announcing his retirement. SportMediaSet and Football Italia have linked him with a switch to Goodison but Sport Witness claim they spoke with his agent who denied it was likely.

“Yeah, in summer,” Stefano Castagna said when asked if he had held talks with the Toffees.

Asked if a deal was possible in January, he said: “No, absolutely no.”

CalcioMercato still insist that a two-year, €10m loan deal involving Everton is an "absolute possibility", however.
