Uncertainty over Rooney's future sparks speculation

Reports claiming that Wayne Rooney has been told by Jose Mourhino he is no longer guaranteed a starting place at Manchester United have promoted inevitable speculation that he could leave the club.

Rooney has not started the last four games for the Red Devils, including their crushing 4-0 defeat at Chelsea because of an unspecified muscle injury, and there is talk of a move to the MLS or a return to Everton — although that would likely require him taking a substantial cut in his massive £300,000-a-week wage packet.
