Strootman links continue

The transfer window doesn't reopen for another two months but Everton are still being mentioned in connection with supposed targets for January, among them midfielder Kevin Strootman.

The Dutchman was linked on and off as a potential target of his compatriot Ronald Koeman but nothing substantive ever seemed to come from the speculation.

Strootman has battled a series of long-term injuries that have severely restricted his league appearances for Roma over the past four seasons to just 43.

Seemingly fit again, the midfielder has played nine times for the Serie A club so far this season and that has prompted renewed talk of him coming to the Premier League with Everton.

The Mirror claim Koeman wants to bring Strootman to Goodison Park as a long-term replacement for Gareth Barry while Tottomercatoweb vaguely suggest that Everton "could make a proposal" to Roma and try to meet the €19m fee that the Italians paid for him in 2013.
