Koeman tells the Board: January clear-out and five new players

Ronald Koeman is preparing for a January clear-out as he tells the Everton board he wants five new players.

Simon Jones, writing in the Mail on Sunday, claims that Ronald Koeman is ready to instigate a January clear-out; the Dutch coach has been unimpressed by his under-performing squad and wants five new players.

Midfielder James McCarthy, striker Oumar Niasse and winger Aiden McGeady are among the front line candidates to go but Everton will listen to offers for most fringe players. Koeman also has concerns about the age of his squad with Gareth Barry, Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines over 30 while the inconsistency of homegrown Ross Barkley means Everton are also in the market for a playmaker.

Koeman wants a new goalkeeper, a centre back, two midfielders and a forward for January. Manchester United pair Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin are among the names on his wish list as is Napoli's Manolo Gabbiadini.

Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri will back Koeman in the market but wants Director of Football Steve Walsh to balance the books by offloading those deemed surplus to requirements.

Koeman has not cut a popular figure among Everton's players but is more concerned about turning round their performances and results — even if it means some established names have to be sacrificed.
