Palace to renew interest in McCarthy

Alan Pardew was credited with serious interest in the Irish midfielder in the summer while the two clubs were negotiating the transfer of Yannick Bolasie but nothing came of the reported talks.

McCarthy ended up staying at Goodison Park and has struggled with injury this season but even when fit he is considered to be behind Idrissa Gueye and Gareth Barry in the midfield pecking order.

The Daily Star claim that Palace will vie with Celtic for McCarthy's signature, although both clubs supposedly want him on loan rather than on a permanent deal.
