Spanish newspaper Marca claim that the Blues made firm inquiries about the 25-year-old last summer but made no headway on a deal but they will try again next month.

Valencia's financial situation means that they could be willing to part with the Spaniard who can operate out wide or up front.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Rodrigo has spent time in England already having played on loan at Bolton Wanderers as a teenager where he made 17 appearances.
