Assuming they are still interested in the winger, Everton face fresh competition for Memphis Depay from Olympique Lyonnais.

According to RMC Sport in France, the Ligue 1 side have made an official approach for the Dutch international and were quoted a fee of €17m by Manchester United.

Blues boss Ronald Koeman has openly admitted that he would be interested in signing Depay were he available but rumour has it that he would prefer to bring his compatriot in on loan so as to keep more of his transfer powder dry and allow the player to demonstrate that he has the right mentality before shelling out significant funds on him.

United, meanwhile, are adamant that they will only let him go on a permanent deal this month. Jose Mourinho has hardly used him since taking over at Old Trafford but admitted over the weekend that Depay could get game time in the coming weeks given United's hectic schedule.

Depay has also been linked with AS Roma this month.

Update 12 Jan Lyon have had a reported £13m bid rejected by Manchester United who are looking to recoup more of their outlay on the player.
