McCarthy still the subject of transfer speculation

| Thursday, 26 January 2017  0 Comment  [Jump to last]
James McCarthy continues to be linked with a move away from Goodison Park this transfer window.

Newcastle and Crystal Palace are again being mooted as potential destinations for the Irishman by MailOnline, citing the fact that he has lost his place in the Everton side.

McCarthy has been used regularly by Ronald Koeman when fit but he was sidelined by groin surgery early in the season and has suffered hamstring problems since.

He returned to fitness earlier this month, but the emergence of Tom Davies, the arrival of Morgan Schneiderlin and Muhamed Besic's imminent return to fitness mean that he now faces much more competition than was the case just a few weeks ago.

Both the Magpies and Eagles have been mentioned as holding serious interest in signing the 26-year-old but would prefer a loan option whereas Everton would almost certainly insist on a permanent transfer.
