The news that Manchester United have sealed the capture of Victor Lindelof for £30.8m has increased speculation that Everton are now in pole position to sign Michael Keane from Burnley.

The Blues have been among the favourites to land the up-and-coming centre half ever since it emerged that he would likely be leaving Turf Moor this summer but United's interest in him appeared to have put Ronald Koeman and Steve Walsh at a disadvantage.

Jose Mourinho has changed tack in recent weeks, however, and swooped to sign Lindelof fromn Benfica in what is a club record deal for a defender. That could pave the way for Keane to join Everton for a mooted £25m if there is no other serious competition for his signature.

Koeman publicly expressed his admiration for the young Englishman a few weeks ago but there has been media speculation suggesting Liverpool are interested in him as well.
