First-half goals from Manasse Mampala and Michael Collins gave Everton Under-18s a deserved 2-1 win over Middlesbrough at USM Finch Farm on Saturday.

The young Blues scored with less than a minute on the clock. Alex Denny pounced on a loose ball before finding Stephen Duke-McKenna, whose defence-splitting pass released Mampala to finish first time into the far corner of the net.

Three minutes before the interval, the hosts would get the second goal their dominance deserved. Duke-McKenna swung in a lovely, arced corner from the right and it was powerfully headed home by Blues centre-back Collins at the near post.

Four minutes into the second half, the visitors did reduce the deficit. The Blues continued to press for a third, with Sid Kerr firing over from the edge of the box, before McKenna was denied with a superb save.

Everton U18s: Hilton, Richards, Moore, Collins, Ouzounidis, Denny, Duke-McKenna, Kerr, Mampala (Adedoyin), Gordon (Simms), Anderson (Scully).

Looking like the only one of our teams that can't buy a win is the 1st team.
