Everton U18s travelled the short distance to Liverpool's Kirkby Academy this evening and gave up a 1-0 lead, eventually losing 3-1 to Liverpool's youngsters.

The Blues were full of confidence after a run of three consecutive victories in all competitions.

U18s coach Paul Tait told evertonfc.com. “We've trained well this week and there is confidence because we're on a decent little run. But it's also a case of the old saying of, ‘don't get too high, don't get too low in football'.

“We won't need to motivate them for a derby, that's for sure. A lot of them have played in derbies before but this will be a first taste at Under-18 level for a lot of them, which is a little bit different to the schoolboy games.

“We're all thoroughly looking forward to it.”

However, after Anthony Gordon had scored to put Everton ahead, the goalscorer was substituted along with Hornby, the Blues sat back a bit and paid the price as Jones grabbed a brace and Camacho scored Liverpool's third.

Everton U18s: Hansen, Richards, Moore, Collins, Ouzounidis, Denny [Y], Duke-McKenna, Kerr (74' Simms), Hornby (64' Mampala), Gordon (64' Iversen), Anderson [Y].
Subs not Used: Johnson, Scully.
