I've never been more upset with Marco, than the Southhampton game last season. Changes in the lineup are fine for a Cup game. You have to rotate.

But Marco, if you make seven changes (think that was the number?) again this year going into any Cup game, and completely disrespect the fan base and their hunger for a trophy, I will go certifiably apeshit.

This is, and always has been, our best chance at silverware. Win the damn tournament and end the suffering FFS!

And for those of you about to roll out with, "we've never done well in this competition"?

See my bazillion or so comments about not accepting substandard results and effort, and changing the culture at Everton to a winning one, on various other threads.

We should, without question, go very, very deep in this tournament and be playing in it come February.

Totally agree with Jamie, the cup competitions are our greatest tilt at success and gaining European football. Take the competitions seriously and put out a very strong team.

If we want to grow the club in both European and global terms we need to take the most realistic opportunities that are open to us. If you desire to be a big club, you have to act like a big club.

Maybe one or two players carrying a knock rested, otherwise a full strength side. Then when the score is unassailable, three substitutions. Game over, job done, next round. Rinse and repeat.

Marco shouldn't be the only silver at Goodison by seasons end.

I don't know how that rant can make you feel any better Jamie, but I'm gonna go out on a limb here mate, and I'm going to promise you a ticket for the final if Everton get there!

Trouble is that's it all very well saying don't rotate but we are definitely going to need to use the full squad this year and when else do you rotate to give the likes of Holgate, Davies, Sidibe etc some needed minutes. They will be required at some point so some game time is invaluable.

We'd cry murder if Holgate came in to start for a fit Mina against Watford on Saturday and we lost.

I'm not suggesting we play a whole bunch of kids but you'd expect a team with 4/5 of the ‘reserves' to be able to cope with Lincoln. For example:

I think I'd keep Richarlison and Sigurdson in to start to make sure we had goal threat all over then pull them out when we were 3-0 up or 60 mins, whichever came first.

Yes, Drew. Perhaps you could play Sigurdsson instead of Gomes, I've been wanting to see how he might fare in a 4-3-3 hopefully getting on the ball more and still able to arrive late. He certainly covers enough ground to play that box to box role even if he's not the best defensively.

Really good draw, LCFC are a great club with great fans.

I've been following them for years and they are serial winners (National League, EFL Trophy, League 2). As close to a full strength squad as possible will be needed to avoid an upset.

How about playing the best, fit, XI available for each match as it comes along? Rest players when they need it & drop them when they deserve it. That seems a reasonable way to use the whole squad, imo.

But I think the trouble might be that you suddenly find your whole attack or whole midfield suddenly getting tired at the same time and then having to play 3 or 4 players through a crucial Xmas period when none of them have had more than 10-20 minutes here and there since pre-season.

Rotation is a tricky thing. We do play a high press game and require the players to do alot of running. They will need breaks at some point and logic would dictate that Lincoln 'should' be a safer game than anything in the Premier League. The reserves we'd be bringing in are all still full internationals like Baines and Sidibe so you'd hope the standard would not drop much. It's what most of the top 6 do in the league cup but I appreciate that our need for silverware may be more pressing. Difficult balance.

Hypothetically, Sam, that could occur. However, injuries, form & suspensions would disrupt that somewhat. Also, that rather assumes that you have a settled first choice midfield or attack in place to start with, which is clearly not the case at the moment.

Everton will be focused for this game. Silva got absolutely pillar last year for his attitude to the League Cup. Lincoln memories are strapped to his back ever since , and now be faced them again. He already said that the League Cup and the FA Cup are important. He didn't expect to draw Lincoln again.

The problem here is that the lower league teams always raise their game for these matches and we have consistently played weaken teams and have learnt nothing over the years. Does Marco even know of our dismal record against lower league teams in cup comps over the last 30 years? If not he should be told so he absolutely makes sure it doesn't happen yet again!

We must have lost more cup games to these type of teams more than any other 'top' side. I could list them but you all know who they are! The worst for me was the 0-3 to Tranmere.

We must and will win this game! I just hope Marco knows how important this is to the fans and so doesn't fuck it up! There is no need to rotate this early in the season. Lincoln will be no mugs and we know then from last season when they gave a good account of themselves.

Ahh... the League Cup, it would seem that Mr Mountfield himself would really like to win this too. Sadly, it would seem our hierarchy and even some of our fanbase have nothing but contempt for this wonderful trophy. The number of posts for this thread will tell me all I need to know if I am right or wrong!

This is our ONLY road back to greatness, folks. Time to finally win this and end our trophy drought... a boy can dream!!!

Not because Everton have never won it but because it has always been the Mickey Mouse cup since the top teams were given exemption certificates and even when they did come in they were allowed to rest all the normal first-choice players until the rounds that meant something i.e. semi-final and final.

It was always designed to bring in some extra cash for the teams outside the old First Division and nothing else.

Even so it's nice to win every game you compete in but one can understand Silva's position as well as many other Premier League managers.

Just another opportunity to give young players and bench players a run out when there are more important Premier League games coming up the following weekend.

I want us to win this cup, regardless of whether it's regarded as Mickey Mouse. But I want us to win it only with respect to us improving consistently and competing at the top. If we won it like say, Burnley could win it, I wouldn't be so bothered about winning it, since it would be a flash in the pan that's not part of consistency at the top.

Winning this cup is lower priority than winning the league and competing in the Champions League, but still important even though it's lower priority.

It's a difficult 3-hour journey to Lincoln. It would be great to know if our management team will be taking the Carabao Cup seriously before we book travel and tickets etc. It is a reasonable question to ask Marco.

Although only 10 weeks has past since my friend passed, now that a bit of the dust has settled, the Mrs. and I reevaluated our trip over.

For a variety of reasons it will not be Christmas. Mostly because she doesn't want to not take the kids at the holidays, and taking the kids (five) takes the cost through the roof.

I'll keep in mind your offer. February, if we make it that far, would be a good time. ;0) But seriously if they get to a final with a chance to win silverware, I'd never take your ticket. Too generous, you need to be there.

I hope to go to the final this year. It's been a long time since the last of my nine visits to the Twin Towers. May 1989 so 30 years ago, when I was a boy of 10. Since then, I had my GSCE's in 1995 and so couldn't go, and we didn't bother with the Charity Shield.

Then the Chelsea final and the Semi coincided with a period where I didn't have a season ticket and so couldn't qualify for a ticket. This season I shall get to more away games, as I think we will make a final and this time I'm not missing out.

Six games (I think) to Europe so, if the poor old dears earning 㿞k to over 𧴜k a week can't manage an extra six games, god help us all.

This is the easiest and best chance of silverware and Europe; we should be preparing for it and planning for reinforcements in January.

Yeah, in '95 I had to concentrate on my exams, and my Dad told me we would be back again soon enough. Well it was only 6 years since the last one and as I said that was my 9th appearance with the blues in just 5 years, so it seemed reasonable, even in light of the events of '94. I guess none of us really expected to be in 2019 still waiting for our next trophy.

I only hope Marco Silva treats both Cup Competitions this year seriously, as many have said we never seem to have any luck in this League Cup whatever the many guises it has assumed over the years.

Losing Finalists and Semi-Finalists is the best we have achieved, I hope Tony Abrahams is right, that this year we can break the duck, and see our name on it, how hard can it be?

That will only be achieved by fielding our best eleven available, and taking it seriously.

Full strength team should be on that pitch to win the game inside 60 mins.

We're only in 3 competitions: max number of extra games is 11 if we get to both finals and that's a BIG if.

The only time this squad needs major rotating is the Christmas period.

Understand what you mean about luck Derek, and although Hansen definitely hand-balled it on the line, I think one of the biggest slices of luck I've ever seen Everton receive came about in this competition, in the same season actually, with the famous Brock-Backpass!

Make your own luck, has got to be the mantra, because if you're genuinely unlucky then it usually means that you're going on the right track, and I don't know an Evertonian alive who didn't feel like this after Hansen got away with murder, because that was the day our team of the eighties came of age imo, so I believe you've just got to keep on fighting, if you really want your luck to change?

Expect Silva to field a reserve team. He doesn't do Cups.

If a side like that can't beat Lincoln then there isn't much Silva can do, he has a few knocks and a few lads getting up to speed after a short pre-season, but we should have plenty.

I seem to recall Silva's lineup against Southampton not being totally outrageous... his big gamble was starting Dowell at the 10, which backfired terribly and he had to be hooked at halftime.

Surely this season the club will play to win. Lincoln will play like it's their final and we must learn from past experiences in this competition and in 1993, with Jason Kearton, in goal we scrapped a 3-4, win at their place.

It's our best chance of silverware with some decent draws. It can't no longer be our perpetual banana-skin competition.

One round at a time but we must progress beyond this round.

Lincoln will give us a game, so we shouldn't be thinking this is a given.

‘Silva doesn't do Cups'? Pat (37), he won a cup in his only season with Sporting. He played the strongest available team at Millwall. We were beaten by a third rate Championship team and a poor refereeing decision.

Silva will not underestimate Lincoln after they ran us close in January. He will play the strongest available team. With the Villa game being played the previous Friday evening our players will have had an extra day to prepare. So there can be no excuses.

The Lincoln Chairman, Clive Nates, is an Everton supporter.

This game has been selected for life coverage by Sky TV, on Wednesday 28th August, kick off 7.45pm. They must be thinking of a surprise here. Well they're out of luck.

Guaranteed that Lossl will play. I imagine the likes of Holgate will also get a game. Whoever we put out should be good enough, but we all know how football (and Everton) does not work like that sometimes.

I can understand Sky being there as Lincoln are a pretty decent side and Everton have a well founded history of not taking the league cup seriously. Sorry Danny Baily, but my experience of working In Lincoln for a number of years is that many people there are pretty insular, rude and xenophobic so I want the Blues to absolutely twat them

I agree that our friends at Sky are hoping to see a giant killing here, so here's hoping they are severely disappointed. As many have said, the strongest available side, nothing less will do.

The A Team is required. Nil Satis Nisi Optimum springs to mind or we'll be down to just one trophy to have some chance of and it won't even be September.

This competition is there for the taking. So many top sides are in Europe giving us a great opportunity to win a trophy.
