I think they need to remember that Southport is a seaside resort close to Liverpool and still in Merseyside, whereas Stockport might be on the Mersey and in Cheshire, but in effect, it's practically Manchester and part of the heartland that makes up the traditional Man City fan base.

Jay (10), Jay, Rhys is an U19 Welsh International attacking midfielder, he is a second year scholar with Everton U18's, he has played ten games, scored two and he has been booked four times in those ten games, not sure if I've seen him.

Jay #10, Rhys Hughes has really come into his own this season and usually captains the u18s. He played a few games last season but was largely kept out of the midfield by the combination of Iversen/Carroll/ Hunt. He's been very effective with another 2nd year Scholar Seb Quirk. Hughes is much more attack minded this year, he's scored a few too. He's been in the Wales set up since U15s, at one time we had him, Ryan Astley and two other of our Scholars Josh Hosie and Liam Higgins in the u15 squad. He's certainly got the build to progress to the U23s, then take it from there.

Too many keepers being used at this level, I suppose we should give them all a chance, don't think Hansen has played much recently, maybe rusty for that goal. Tyrer has generally looked the better GK for me.

Phill, I think TW's own Harry Tyrer is the better keeper.

Steve no idea on why4 subs. I offered but turned me down. A weakened side. Missing Gibson Feeney Beni Adeniran Gordon Evans. But Simms looks as he's getting stronger and not getting muscled out of things as he was earlier in season.

Steve #29, an odd one 3 outfield subs. We obviously have a number of injuries, Gibson, Feeney but I'm not aware of the likes of Adeniran and Evans being injured. maybe they'll be in the Carabao whatsit squad on Wednesday? We've got defence and mid field covered on the bench, maybe they don't want to overplay the likes of Dobbin by having him in the squad.

Kyle John is having a good game as right wing back. It's a big difference when an ex winger plays wing back compared to a defender.

Ellis Simms should have shot there for his Hattrick and he was easily handled.

Simms was good early on but faded. Midfield was industrious. Young Tyler is a coming force and it's easy to forget he's still 16.

Best player on the pitch was Kyle John who was a constant threat haring up and down the wing all game. He showed he was human and tired at the end.

Good win against a poor side and hopefully that'll give the blues some confidence and we can get back into mid table and settle the side.

Well I enjoyed that, and I've been moaning all season that the U23s ( and first team) never come from behind and win.
Steve, yep agree with that. John has only been a full back for about 18 months having been converted from a midfield/ winger role in the u18s, so he's still learning defensively but he's got the pace and skill that a modern full back needs.
I like the way Simms is improving all the time, he got criticised last season for not coping in the few U23s games he played, but now he's a handfull physically and with his pace, allbeit a still raw player with hopefully more development to come.

Phill, I think Simms is developing rapidly. I hope that he is too good for the u23s by the end of the season. The question then be first team or loan. I'd hope for first team (if he's good enough!).

Good win but no need to rush young players. Just because a player has a good season doesn't mean they need to step up.

What they need to do is keep improving, progressing, developing and when consistent enough move up.

We have a year under the under age gap to ensure promising players are not over crowded because they need game time.

Love young Davies and Holgate in midfield but that doesn't mean they are good enough to stay consistent enough all season.

Great call by Ferguson to start Holgate as a 3rd CB but to push up as a CDM.

Likewise Richarlison CF or LW? Keep them guessing.

Justin there was two possibles in that side last night. Firstly the energetic right back Kyle John, who as described above, is a converted winger. He is only 18. He has an awful lot to learn, but he has pace and stamina and his crossing was great. But dare I say it, he doesn't look on the level of Jonjo Kenny. The other is Tyler Onyango. He is 16, he's tall and gangly. This and his position in central midfield makes it obvious to compare him to Patrick Vieira. Tyler doesn't stand out, but he's a 16 year old midfielder playing at u23 level. That he does not look out of his depth tells me how good he is. He needs to work hard and keep developing. He also needs to keep growing and to be a proper big tall midfielder to maintain his strengths in the adult game. Ryan Astley is highly touted but I did not think he had a good game at centre-half. Matty Foulds is now reaching the point where he needs to leave to further his career. Gibson and Feeney were both injured and missing.

The Wolves number 4 had a 'mare on our 1st and final goals. Unfortunately, our keeper didn't cover himself with glory either.

I presume it was Kyle John who skipped between two Wolves players to get to the bye line and pull the ball back for the resulting own goal and winner?

The keeper was not Harry Tyrer, our usual keeper but Hansen. Our American born, Danish keeper, who is also very highly rated.

I could see it wasn't Harry Tyler Steve, who always performs well when I've been able to see the games. Not sure if I've seen this lad before.

The club really does need to do better to broadcast these academy games live on EvertonTV as other clubs already do, as you yourself posted earlier Steve.

I'm beginning to warm to Con Ouzounidis at centre back having been a bit dismissive of him in the past, with in my mind Astley at two years younger the better prospect. Ouzounidis has worked hard on his game, his biggest asset has always been his strength but he appeared to have a degree of clumsiness about him, he looks better now.
At 20 you wonder if he's falling into the Pennington / Tyias Browning category, big strong but not good enough. His contract is up next July so he needs these chances to shine, and who knows he may turn out to be a Harry Maguire type CB

The U23's are presently losing 1-0 to Porto who lead with an early goal from Vierra, the game is not being shown by Everton, ( again) our supporters deserve much better than this.
