Bundesliga clubs chasing Joe Williams

Thursday, 04 July 2019 11comments  |  Jump to last

Another of Everton's youngsters is being tempted to join a Bundesliga club to further his career in Germany.

Joe Williams could follow Jonjoe Kenny, with the Liverpool Echo reporting that a number of unnamed clubs in the Bundesliga and the Championship have made offers to Everton for him. Williams spent last season out on loan with Bolton Wanderers.

Williams represents another test case for Everton's youth policy in terms of team building, with the young player's path into the senior side's midfield further blocked by the signing of André Gomes.

Everton have apparently resisted previous offers for Williams from Barnsley and Bristol City in the past.

After 2 full seasons in the Championship, where he has acquitted himself well by all accounts, it's time he made the step up to a top division. Germany could well be an option, as it does appear his chances will be limited with us.

A season-long loan in Germany would be a good option because, if he does well, his value will rise. Selling now would probably see us get a symbolic fee.

The only way to have a real clear out and allow others to come through would be to sell these players (with a buy-back option). I thought he only had 12 months left but maybe I've mixed him up.

Apparently Silva thought this kid had a bit about him before getting injured last season, add this to the fact the Bolton fans were raving over him and it may be worth giving the lad a new deal, take a long last look.

We waste a lot more on a lot less imo, just look at Sandro and Miralas.

David #2, correct, Williams has one year left to run on his contract.

I think the Bundesliga would be a great idea. Joe and Jonjoe can work on their German language skills.

Mike we couldn't loan him out without adding to his deal, a full season in Germany could take Joe to a whole new level, we have to get an extension, or cash in now.

Mirallas Si?

I know he was frustrating but a quick google confirms he racked up 30 odd goals and almost as many assists in 150 Premier League games for an outlay of £6 million and on 45k a week (initially). Don't think he's quite in Sandro's "waste-of-money" league.

Mirallas is hardly in the same bracket as Sandro - once upon a time he was a good player for us.

Joe Williams is a miniature beast in the middle of the park but I doubt he could get game time ahead of Davies who is a more rounded player.

He'll do well though, and Germany is a great place to develop, especially with clubs that put their faith in young potential.

He's done well. Give him a three year contract, send him to Germany and see how he does. Either sell him or integrate him next summer.

Peter, Aiden,

I liked Miralas a while ago, but hes gone lazy/stale whatever you want to call him.

Was more making an example of players who we pay yet they don't actually contribute anything.

I understand Miralas once did, but that was almost 3 years ago, the man is now a burden to the club as are around 15 others.

If were splitting hairs I'm sure I could have used another name but imo Miralas, Besic, McCarthy, Martina, Steklenburg, all offer nothing as they don't ever kick a ball for the first team (some different reasons than others), yet we pay them in excess of a million pounds a month, that for me is a waste.

Lads like Joe Williams who are young and can be loaned out with all there wagers covered are not the same drain on the club.

A PNE supporting friend told me that Joe Williams was the best player on the pitch when Bolton visited Deepdale last season. I agree with those who say tie him up for a few more years if we send him out on loan. He looks more likely to make it at Everton than Baningame.

I wonder if Joe Williams will be the heir to Gueyes throne as the midfield ball-winner to complement Gomes’ quarterbacking style? If that’s the case then until Gueye departs it makes sense to see if he can step up to the top level and Bundesliga is a league where he can shine (look at how Lookman, Sancho and hopefully Kenny have thrived there)
