Everton enter race to sign Gomez

| Friday, 05 July 2019 35comments  |  Jump to last
Everton have emerged as late entrants in the chase to sign Maxi Gomez with a report from Spain claiming they have offered €40.5m for the striker.

The Uruguayan has by turns in the past week seemed destined to sign for Valencia and then West Ham but now Julio Insa of Radio Esport in the Spanish city has tweeted that the Blues are now in the running as well.

The Hammers' chances of landing Gomez appeared to be have been dealt a blow by Gomez's preference for Valencia over London which, if true, might harm Everton's prospects as well.

Gomez has been plying his trade at Celta Vigo for the past two years and has 30 league goals in 71 games.

This reeks of agents trying to drive up the price/wage offers to me. He’s a good player but I think if we’re serious about him we’d have bid earlier. Plus I’m not convinced he’s worth £40m.

Bid £50m for Jesus, City are looking for another striker

Not sure there's much in this one but he's the right age and €40million doesn't get an A list striker these days.

Funny because it's been reported that Gomez prefers London over Valencia. Some story about a swap for 3 Valencia players was agreed then cancelled just before their medicals. Sounds like a bit of a sh*t show. Strong and decent in the air but slow.

Looks like he’s going to West Ham anyway

I thought - Am I in an alternative Universe? Has ToffeeWeb jumped back a few weeks. Do I need to clear my cookies? We signed Gomes a week ago after he was here on loan. We are only in the race to sign him? What!

Read the story, correct the spelling and Reeeeelaaaaaaaaaaax.

Now we've finally signed Gomez, why not go for his Gomes kid?

Agree with Neil #2 - we should try a cheeky bud for Jesus at Citeh.

He’s too good to be on their bench for another season and will be keen to play. Agent Richarlison - do your thing!

Peter, Foster or Paisley? Can't see either of them being a success.

I'd take a punt on Gomez if I'm honest, I'd also loved to have seen us bid for Youri Tielemans before he was cemented at Leicester, would have been an absolute beast for us.

Sam #1 Sounds to me too like his agents are creating a bit of panic in West Ham and Valencia to drive his wage demands.

Ha! Ha! This would be a commentators' nightmare, when Gomes passes to Gomez. With the half brain most of the commentators have, we could lay bets on a faux-pas.

Pity we don't have Coleman nowadays with his comments on the game between Brazil and Scotland (can't remember the year but I think it was in a Brazil World Cup game). I think it was Asa Hartford is all over the pitch, you could really say that Asa Hartford, the whole hearted player! Asa had sometime prior had a hole in the heart operation!

This one has all the legs of a Rattlesnake.

It’s purely agents trying to hike up a bid from West Ham.

Bob, Maxi Gomez is Uruguayan so I would presume Spanish pronunciation, ie Go-mez. Andre Gomes is Portuguese so has Portuguese pronunciation. The British commentators say it completely wrong. Like they do with Digne (actually pronounced like Dean as in Dixie). Andre Gomes has the emphasis on the GOM part and the second part is like “SSH”. So Gomssh not Gomez. Another Portuguese guy reckons you say it with a H as in Hom-sh. Not sure which is correct but the consensus is Gomssh.

Wrong thread I know but nowhere else to put it, and it IS transfer related.

Worrying message from big Kurt to the Chelsea supporters. Unless he's just making the right noises looks like he's happy to stay there.

Gorrmish. According to a friend from Angola. Although I’m a bit hard of hearing, that’s what I got.

As long as he doesn't turn out to be gormless I ain't fussed how it's pronounced.
Steve F your offering should be ok after a couple of pints :)

Brian @17, he's not going to be with us I'm afraid. We will find someone else who is better. Or use what we have.

I've a feeling we will be starting the season with DCL up top, and Kurt will stay at Chelsea with Lampard. I'm concerned about the striker situation, as DCL played a part in most PL games last season and scored about 6 goals. Any team aiming for the Top 6 would address that.

Joe

If that prediction is true then we can quite simply forget finishing any higher than 8th can’t we?

Let’s be realistic, even if we did capture Zouma which is not all that likely with each passing day, then it still wouldn’t be a good enough squad to challenge for the top 6 or 7.

I think this is media bull, But it’s that time of year and we are linked with many players.

I hope MB has a couple of strikers that are proven, in his briefcase.

The preseason is flying and twists of fate at Chelsea’s and it seems that we will be very lucky to get Zouma.

Hope eternal and let’s hope we can do more good business the next few weeks, to give the players some time to gel and bond.

Gomez seems a good player, not sure if he fits into the system ss desired by Silva, and it does seem like agent talk to try to drive up interest.

I suspect our target is currently on international leave, hence the delay.

Some media talk of a bid for Diego Costa from Athletico Madrid. A hammer of a centre forward but, based on his past record, the sort of man who would fall out with the manager and half the dressing room by the end of the first week.

Costa hasn't been the player he was for a long time. He is now 30, and would command huge wages.

He is destined for Flamengo, or China, I would guess.

I think Costa would be a great signing. It would make others look twice at us and our ambitions. It would give us a fear factor. That's if he'd fit in the system. Depends on his hunger l suppose. Doesn't fit the age profile who knows. We could even get him on loan.
Jim Bennings
29 Posted 06/07/2019 at 17:58:55
Costa won’t be coming to Everton!

He could have come on loan two years ago, he didn’t.

He’s a player at the peak of his career aged 30, there’s no way he’ll drop out of the Champions League, also we’d need an astronomical amount to pay his wages and transfer fee.

Dream on.

Can’t see it happening for all the reason outlined above.

He would ruin the dressing room and current team ethic in next to no time.

Other teams will wind him up, and red card would follow red card.

Very good footballer, but leave well alone IMO.

Brian @17, I saw that too, Traitor ! never wanted him anyway, nah, nah, nah, nah. :-)

Ray @ 26, if you don't mind my correcting you there, " the sort of man who would fall out with the manager and half the dressing room by the end of the first week ". I think the end of the first day would be more accurate!

Perhaps I’m going soft, but cannot disagree with your comment.

Hopefully Moshiri has been misquoted!

I thought Brands was in charge of comings and goings.

Media hype!!!!
