Everton to launch bid for Malcom

| Monday, 08 July 2019 49comments  |  Jump to last
Everton are set to make a €35m to sign Malcom from Barcelona according to reports.

RMC in France and Sport in Spain claim that Marco Silva has made the former Bordeaux winger his next top priority in the current transfer window as he seeks to make attacking reinforcements to his squad.

Malcom was linked with a move to Goodison Park during the January transfer window but nothing came of the speculation.

Talk of him making a switch to the Premier League has resurfaced in recent weeks, with Arsenal among his rumoured suitors.

According to a Brazilian journalist, Malcom's agent has travelled to England to hold talks with two un-named clubs.

I for one hoped we would do our business early. But time is moving on. I was hoping any one coming in would have plenty of time to settle in. So lets get them in.

If the rumour that Lookman is off are true, why not go after this lad?

Looked decent in the French league, perhaps a loan with option to buy in either January '20 or Summer '20 makes sense given the risk of Malcolm not played in the Prem.

Would be an exciting addition and make our forward line dynamic, fast, and dangerous against any team. DCL - Bernard - Richarlison - Malcolm as forward options is better than anything I can ever remember us having.

With you all the way Frank, but DCL ain't gonna scare anyone. I'd prefer us to go for proven forward, no 9. What's Aguero up to?

Sorry Fran, it's my bloody phone.

We need a forward more than anything else, all other positions should have less priority. One good one could turn us around. BTW we don't want Rom back

Another name another rumor. They will persist until the window shuts and the media always gets it right, right?
Anyhow we all know that Everton's strike force is weak apart from Richarleson who can only benefit from some class assistance so let's see how good this rumor is.
I still see Welbeck being worth a shot now he has been released but has some club already got dibs or is Silva happy with DCL, Tosun and Walcott.

8 hours! Malcom.

Suddenly we’re grabbing the entire of Barca’s unwanted squad. The players are generally way better than the premiership equivalent but we’re becoming a Barca C team.

Better Barca's cast offs than Wigan's

Classic loan deal I would hope. Still not yet established himself as a player, shown flashes but the lights seem too bright at Barca for him. To buy him would be foolish at this stage, but maybe that’s the market we’re in and have to accept a risk like this.
Surely there has to be a Brazilian steak house setting up in town soon.

Not sure it would be a loan deal. Think Barca need to sell for FFP reasons.

I really like Malcom. He's brilliant ball carrier, can shoot well from range and has genuine vision. I think he'd be a better option than Neres potentially and has more experience in better leagues despite his struggles at Barca (he still scored four goals and got 2 assists in 600 minutes).

For him he gets to come to a club where he would be guaranteed game time with two Brazilian team-mates and a manager who speaks Portuguese. He gets to get his career back on track in the most watched league in the world.

This makes alot of sense all round to me. As I said on the Lookman thread if we could sell Lookman for £22m and buy Malcom for £32m I think that would represent extremely good business.

Fingers crossed there is some truth in this one.

Bernard and Gomes were a risk when we first brought them in.

We were all over Malcolm last season and gutted when we missed out, so cannot for the life of me see what the problem is bringing the guy in this season.

As others have said though, centre forward is a must.

It will be the ''Boys from Brazil '' headlines all season for our front three.

Thank god we are back on to saner territory after the Costa nonsense. Malcom fits the profile more and we were very interested in him last summer before he went to Barca. So there may be some mileage in it especially as we seem to be twinned with Barcelona these days.

I actually think we’re getting our business done fairly early. The official window didn’t open till last week, so it’s still early days yet

Hope eternal, patience and faith in MB, to get a pair of strikers, and a RB, but it’s early days.

Some how I think there will be an extension to the players car park at FF, as the surplus of players we could possibly start with next season, due to the likelihood of them being sold. A whole squad that we will struggle to sell and will make big losses on.

But hope eternal.

It would seem that Lookman doesn't seem to be a Silva type of player, even though I like him, and he has plenty of potential. If he doesn't fit Silva's profile and Leipzig are in for him, then I think Malcolm seems a decent shout.

Can’t see Malcolm and Bernard playing together, too similar. Also, Bernard has disappointed in terms of goals and assists, so MS may see Malcolm as a replacement.

Les # 1

You're kidding aren't you Les?

This is EFC we're talking about here, I doubt they know the transfer window has begun, 5 mins to midnight on deadline day they'll have a look around at all the odds and sods that haven't been sold and buy a few.

Clive @ 25.

Bernard and Malcolm are two completely different animals, Clive, not 'similar' in build or play at all.

I really don't see the point of spending that kind of money on a rotation player.

Fill the obvious first team holes first.. striker, centre half, water carrier (If Gueye goes).

Paul #23

They have took Niasse's car parking space off him along with his locker so he leaves his Escort van with his clobber in it outside FF

Perhaps the solution to playing Bernard and Malcolm together is to move Bernard into advance midfield. besides any winning team needs to shift formation during the game in response to opposition and how that particular game is going.

Lots of chat on this and other sites about getting players that are a "right fit" for certain positions.

However, some of the most successful managers have been ones that have been able to take a player and seamlessly change his game from one position to another.

In so doing those managers seem to create teams that are far greater than the sum of their parts.

Perhaps we have such a one in Silva (or in Silva and Brands combined), and maybe not.

But it could be that our management team are picking players that they intend to use in slightly different positions to those in which they have normally played, because they can see some potential there that the rest of us have not.

It may also be for the same type of reason that Lookman is not getting game time in the team.

ToffeeWeb using the Sky lingo now?

Shouldn't we pepare the bid before we launch it?

Would be a great addition.

Shane, what does it mean? "Preparing a bid", launching a bid ", "planning a bid". Just toe curling, meaningless shite... Like " penning a deal", "putting pen to paper". When did the word "signing" become redundant?
Dennis Ng
35 Posted 09/07/2019 at 01:17:26
Shane and Andy, if we're truly using Sky lingo, wouldn't we have the player now in Kenya now and Barca just have to fill in whatever they want on the blank check from Moshiri?
Hugh Jenkins

Andy (34), around the same time as "loaning" a player in or out replaced borrowing or lending, I would think.
Shane Corcoran
37 Posted 09/07/2019 at 08:08:48
Andy, I assume the fax paper needs to be ordered from our local supplier, pencils need to be sharpened and Kenwright needs to overcome writer's block in order to get just the right wording.

Dennis, I don't follow.

I am sure this is a real goer after the interest we have previously shown.
If the lad fancies it and he will have a couple of fellow Brazilians touting from the club ! then he will be an Everton player soon.

AS reports that Everton will offer 36 Million Euros for Malcom, 6 Million less than he cost Barca last summer.

Milan and Arsenal remain in contention, however.

Fakes news. When we were linked with the Ajax bloke, Brands said he wouldn't sign him as he plays "the same role as Richarlison." Ditto with Malcom. Secondly, Barce are trying to raise cash for Griezman and Neymar. Arsenal inquired about Malcom but didn't submit a bid. All of a sudden Barce are leaking that Everton are supposedly about to bid. Sounds to me like the classic Barce attempt at getting Arsenal off the fence by fabricating a rival bid. If we were going to do a deal for him, knowing Barce need cash, why wouldn't we have wrapped it up along with the Gomez deal? Makes no sense. Fake news.

Anyone see Copa Final - Jesus Assists Everton. Everton scores for Brazil. Firmino / Coutinho/ Allsson all love Everton. Richarlson scores for Brazil. The omens are looking good said a soothsayer. Malcolm looks ok to me as long as he leaves his scarf at home.

Kieran@45, are you sure Brands said we didn’t need him? Do you have the article by chance?

Neres and Malcom are both left footed whereas Richie is right footed. Think we may well add another winger this summer.

Wouldn't it be nice to see a headline of Everton sign ( someone ) instead of all this speculation, especially of players who have ambition to play in the European competitions that EVERTON are not even in. We may have money and ambition but, even the manager says we need 4 or 5 more players, and I would hate to see them trying to get them 20 min before the transfer shutdown closes.
Remember bungling Bill is still there in the background, and the fair play rules may have changed regarding players contracts, but I believe the rules of how much a club or wealthy owner is allowed to contribute is still in effect
Denis Richardson

Wouldn’t generally be disappointed with any player signed from Barca so if it happens, great.

Would wonder where that would leave Gylfy though or will one of Bernard/Richarlison /Malcom need to be benched each game. Can’t see at least two of the three being happy with that.

Players improving the squad is always good but I’d like to see some action on the striker front as well as right back. There’s still some hope Zouma may yet arrive. Amazed even the rumours aren’t linking us with any strikers at all...
