According to the AllThingsSeleçao Twitter account, the 17 year-old has been tracked by Real Madrid, Ajax, Juventus and Manchester City but the Blues are leading the chase to sign him.
The midfielder has apparently begun following Everton on social media while another source claims that Reinier's representatives have travelled to England to meet with Everton, leading to fevered speculation that there may be something to the story.
@seleçaotalk describe Reinier as "the brightest talent in an exceptional generation of young Brazilians. With many believing he will reach the very top of the game, it would be nothing short of remarkable for Everton."
Globo in Brazil are also reporting on the link with Everton but that Reinier would remain with Flamengo until January when he turns 18.

We will continue to be linked with every man and his dog until the transfer window closes.
The quicker we get players in the sooner we can get on with looking forward to the coming season.

I'm suspicous of this one, in any case he may well follow us on social media, but will still go to the highest bidder. And if he is as good as they're saying then we should be talking silly money!

Brands likes to plan ahead and this would be very much that. The fee would be more like £15m up front and the rest depending on progress.
Hes rated very, very highly. Saw him described as mix between Kaka and Zidane. Fast, creative, technical.
Hed stay in Brazil till January then likely on loan to Europe. Guess hed start featuring in our team next year but probably would not be PL ready till nearer 2021. If hes half as good as people say he is then expect us to sell him to a big club in 2023 for £120m!

Some people man.
Some would rather have us sign Solomon Rondon now than plan for the next ten years with these types. Baffles me

Sorry mate. I can't help. I don't and won't pretend I know the player or say I have seen him play when I haven't.
I said the same of Richarlison when he joined us. He simply didn't register with me if and when I watched him play for his former club Fluminese.
I've heard of this kid, but that's it. I might have seen him play for the national junior sides, but I simply don't recall him.
What I can tell you is that Flamengo is THE biggest club in Brazil followed, by some estimates, by 30-40 MILLION registered supporters nationwide. As such, they get preferential media exposure from the likes of Brazil's biggest broadcaster, Globo. And Globo ARE reporting this today.
Globo without doubt will have very, VERY good contacts with Flamengo. They are saying a club rep, en route to Spain, has stopped over in England to discuss the sale of 'a joia' - 'the jewel' - Reinier Jesus, with Everton reps.
The report says the likes of Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid and Manchester City have all shown interest in the boy.
It speaks of a 70 million EUROS release clause, but that Everton has offered 40 million euros with performance related add ons. If true, we are possibly exploiting the fact that his current contract expires in 18 months, 31 December. If he remains with them, Flamengo wish to extend his contract to 2024.
As already noted, he has NEVER played 1st team football although he is included in the named squad for Copa Libertadores games - the South American equivalent of the CL.
He is currently recovering from knee tendinitis but is expected to play a couple of games for Brazil's U-17s next week.
A little bit of extra info, Flamengo is now managed by the Portuguese nutter Jorge Jesus who some might recall coached Benfica to success before provoking huge outrage by jumping ship to their city rivals Sporting. He probably doesn't hold enough sway yet to insist the club keeps Jesus. The club also own 100% of the rights to the player, so no 3rd party nonsense which is very common with Brazilian players.
Finally, the boy would certainly train at and possibly even have been housed at the Flamengo training centre where earlier this year, you might recall, 10 young players lost their lives in a fire. No idea if he was actually there himself that fatal night.
To me, the fee is absurd for unproven potential. We could pick up the oven-ready Everton Santos from Gremio for the same fee and he would walk into our side from the off and have bums off seats every game.
Maybe Fran Mitchell knows more about his actual playing abilities..?
Sorry I can't offer more insight beyond a translation of Globo's report, Dave.

Reminds me of the 'top scorer in Russia' reports as we were being conned Into signing Niasse.
Juve have just splashed out £67m on a 19 year old CB. If this 17 year old really is the next global star, sorry but why exactly would he be going to Everton? The likes of Real, Barca, PSG, Juve, Bayern etc would be all over this and no doubt his agent will be trying to get him to one of these clubs..
Having a coach who speaks the same language is useful but not sure that bridges the gap between ourselves and the top clubs in Europe.
On another note, AFCoN final tonight so I expect to see the Gueye to PSG talk start again next week. Think he'll be gone soon personally so that may mean a sudden burst of signings once we've banked £45m.
Big KO 3 weeks today

I'd rather we were starting to hear about actual tentative links who (barring a disaster) had pen in hand and were about to commit to the Everton cause.
Brian @ 16, thanks too for reminding me about the AFCON game which I may have forgotten about as I'm watching the Open Golf avidly, but need a diversion. I will always get the highlights later, so won't miss a lot, weather has become deplorable in Northern Ireland so it dampens spirits all round. Oh it's also on Eurosport which most can get on Freeview!
Pat K, we have our own very reliable sources in Brazil through Jay and Fran, so anything serious we should get to know about it, so as you say put it down to Brazil Nuts.

Dont forget Rooney went for 27m at 18 and we considered that daylight robbery.
I don't know anything about the kid or the potential deal just saying we need to keep an open mind and trust Marcel.
28 Posted 19/07/2019 at 15:40:15
I totally endorse that view.
After paying 30 to watch Sion I couldnt get the stream and support came back to me 3 days later and told me I needed to logout and login again.
Despite writing back and telling them I already did that and would like to have it resolved before the Monaco game I have not received any further reply.
29 Posted 19/07/2019 at 15:45:24
Seems a no- brainer to me.. since we for sure need a striker.

Everton's scouting over the years has been a mess judging by all the under-achievers they have brought in of any age group.
Let's all just wait and see ( and hope) that the right moves will happen and change this club's fortunes soon.

Second up, by the time we sold Rooney aged just 18, he had played a couple of seasons in the PL, scored some wonder goals, wowed the world for England's national team at the Euros and was very much a known quality. It was obvious he was going to have a mega-career.
This Reinier Jesus kid hasn't had a single second of first team football in any competition. Not one. Unlike Rooney who was already an England regular at the age this kid is now, he has not played club or international football beyond his age group with the seniors.
You could put up names from Everton's own academy down the years who looked as if they were destined for big things, but who never made the step up to adult football in the Big Boys' League.
The last 'wonderkid' Flamengo flogged was Vinicius Jr to Real Madrid, who also signed a pre-contract agreement which allowed him to stay at Flamengo until his 18th birthday - the minimum age FIFA allows for international transfers of this nature.
Again, like Rooney, at least Vinicius had a full season of actually playing for the first team before leaving for RM. Now I saw a lot of Vinicius and whilst he has his moments and a few tricks, I didn't get the hype over him, or his fee of 46 million euros. But at least he showed he can play men's football.
There is ZERO proof anyone can produce that Reinier Jesus will continue to develop and fulfil his potential, OR that he can cut it at first team level.
I trust in Brands and his methods Jay. But this (only rumoured) transfer as it is described is extremely high risk and seems far removed from the model the Dutchman has followed in his career to date. Maybe one day Everton may be in a position to take such a punt. I would suggest that day remains far off for now and is not part of the strategy in this transfer window.
35 Posted 19/07/2019 at 16:48:39
Whilst Im more than happy to dismiss the individual case its clear we are putting ‘mucho fingers in lots of South American pies, as the summer has produced several similar stories.
Whats I think is not being reflected here is were Everton are as a club. Perhaps peoples reactions indicate they think we are still a big deal? We are not IMO. We simply are not a big enough draw to established players, those players need bigger wages etc. to get them here and lets face it arent committed beyond that.
I believe this really is the only route to get a jump on better teams combined with a hugely over achieving season.
So Im braced for one of these youngsters from South American being pushed through however far fetched. Obviously the FAs work permit criteria is much more stringent that Holland so I hope Brands is finding those players who can be an ‘exception talent or have EU passports to skirt those rules.
Sadly I think we are deffo looking in the bargain bins.
36 Posted 19/07/2019 at 17:16:27
Some very interesting points there.
37 Posted 19/07/2019 at 19:21:39
Let's hope if the kid is as good a prospect as us being reported and the club have stolen a march on all the other clubs that he has an EU passport in his sky rocket and is on his way to the Blues!
38 Posted 19/07/2019 at 19:34:57
39 Posted 19/07/2019 at 20:25:35
But once again, I expect work permit rules to be ripped up once Brexit happens. So if he comes in 12 months time then this would be under the new system.
40 Posted 20/07/2019 at 11:40:06
When I was that age I was 'linked' with Wonder Woman (Lynda Carter) in unimaginable ways.
Anyone got any zit cream?

Don't know whether this particular move will come off but it is the sort of tactic that Brands was bought in to impliment. Yes there is risk involved but if kids like this come anywhere close to realising their potential then they cost 3 times as much in 4-5 years time having hopefully got you some goals and higher profile in the meantime.
44 Posted 22/07/2019 at 09:53:00
45 Posted 22/07/2019 at 22:53:54

Wonder if Brands is tempted by Thiago Almada who is a similar type player who has already made a first team impact at Velez Sarsfield. Man City looking at him.
