Everton make offer for Alex Iwobi

| Wednesday, 07 August 2019 33comments  |  Jump to last

Everton have turned their attentions to Arsenal's Alex Iwobi as they look to add more options to their squad before the transfer window closes.

Sky Sports News reporter Jim White has tweeted that the Blues have lodged a £30m bid for the Gunners winger as they try and fill what Marco Silva has deemed a vital need in his team in the form of a right-sided winger.

That bid, reported by Adrian Kajumba of the Daily Mail, to be £25m plus add-ons, has apparently been rejected by Arsenal.

David Ornstein of the BBC says that Everton would likely need to up their offer to £40m and that while Iwobi isn't agitating for a move, he would accept the switch to Goodison Park if a deal is struck between the two clubs by tomorrow's transfer deadline.

While the interest in Iwobi would appear to be as a result of Everton's frustration with Crystal Palace's sky-high demands for Wilfried Zaha, there some reports suggesting that Marcel Brands and Marco Silva want the Arsenal man in addition to Zaha, perhaps instead of Abdoulaye Doucouré for whom a £30m offer was apparently rejected this week.

Meanwhile, another reported target of Everton's among Unai Emery's squad, Danny Welbeck, has joined Watford on a free transfer.

Arsenal are still laughing about how much money they got for Walcott. Be careful boys. Hopefully it's only a ploy to panic Zaha and Palace.

To what now Jerome? This is a family site, take your smut elsewhere.

This transfer window lunacy is making us all go crazy

Got it on time. I will deny everything.

Why are they only bidding for players on Prem teams? Literally ever other league would have time to get replacement players in. This just seems like a poor strategy

I think they're after a player who has premier league experience. He's scored some and got assists so I can see why we'd be interested. Not a huge fan but could make a useful bench option

I would only rate him as a good player and at 23 he has probably already reached his peak skill-wise; so, for me, £30 million is a fair amount.

With the strikers they already have, Arsenal will more than likely look to offload so better to play a waiting game or find another target.

Getting exciting though. COYB

Like others have said this report could be tactical or bullshit but if true I wonder if he will replace Theo who possibly could be part of the Zaha deal?

The reason I speculate is because the report from Ornstein seems to be specific and in addition to Zaha so I'm presuming either nothing is true or everything is.

Not as consistent as I would like (same applies to Welbeck) and I thought his erratic performances were all too obvious in the Afcon.
Is it significant that both he and Zaha would presumably qualify as ‘home-produced’?

Please God no! We're surely not this desperate?!

I'd love to see Iwobi in an Everton shirt. I have watched him play enough to know, he will flourish with consistent game time. I'd rather him then Zaha. cheaper and won't demand a start. I'd rather Iwobi and Decoure. Seems Decoure doesn't want to join. Shame as he is the best player we are still linked with.

I would be surprised if this happens.

I'm a solid no on Iwobi. He's a very good passer but has absolutely no idea where the net is, and never will. Compared to Iwobi's finishing, Theo is Gerd Muller.

I take all these rumours with a pinch of salt to be honest. Nothing official coming out of the club and probably just media driven crap. Marcel has produced some gems so far and I cant see these rumours having any milage

For the love of God, No! Obviously Evertonians were getting far too comfortable with Brand's judgement that they had to throw this bang average player into the mix. Very worrying if they are thinking that this player would improve things and he is damn expensive also!

I think he's a good player and definitely an upgrade on Walcott... I-wo-bi tide anyone who thinks differently!

Steve, given that he scores a goal every 600 minutes, it's more like "I-wo-be responsible for putting the ball in the net!"

Not a smart move if we give Arsenal 30 or 40m towards their purchase of Zaha.

I'm praying this isn't true. Iwobi is awful. The Arsenal fans boo him for a reason

If this true we'd have been better keeping Lookman, who's better than Iwobi.

If we get Iwobi he will surprise a lot of you!! Very underrated player (mainly by Arsenal fans).

Another Theo Walcott. Can't score!

We already have one golden player who doesn't score enough in Bernard.

No to this! No! No! No!

Just done a quiz at the top of the page and Iwobi, had more assists than Zaha in the EPL last season. Never scored as many goals, and also played for a better team, so it’s quite feasible that Zaha, might have created a lot more chances that were never converted though!

Tony, you and I could get assists if we had those two Arsenal strikers in front of us.

A rank average player, we should be going nowhere near this guy. If there is any truth in this then it undermines a lot of the faith in Brands that he has yielded.

In a world of marginal gains and slight advantages being the difference between success and failure, why are we leaving it so late to bring in players.

Anybody we bring in now will not be ready to start on Saturday, regardless of whether they are even eligible to play.

Why not sign these players in July, get your squad ready early and then go into the season prepared. It makes absolutely no sense to me.

We get Iwobi, Arsenal use the fee to get Zaha. Can't just be me thinking that.

Don't really know enough about him - my friend, who's an Arsenal supporter, likes him well enough... but if fluid passing and not scoring goals is his MO, then it doesn't sound like he's really adding anything that Bernard doesn't already offer.

Hope it's only a rumour to put pressure on Palace, as Zaha has handed in a transfer request. A lot of the Arsenal fans saying, they'll drive him to Goodison.
