Moshiri holds off amid uncertainty over Silva' replacement

Farhad Moshiri has reportedly backed away from the impulse to fire Marco Silva in the wake of Saturday's debacle against Norwich in the absence of an immediate and suitable replacement.

Speculation has been rife over the past 48 hours that Silva could be dismissed less than a year and a half into this contract following a series of damaging results, with suggestions that Mark Hughes or David Moyes could come in on an interim basis to steady the ship.

While Hughes continues to be a highly unlikely option given that he almost had a hand in two relegations from the Premier League in 2017-18 and the names of Eddie Howe, Mikel Arteta and Vitor Pereira have been floated in the media, Moshiri is, according to The Mirror's David Maddock, aware of supporter opposition to the Moyes returning to Goodison Park.

Maddock claims that Moshiri could yet offer 56-year-old Scot the job until May “if there are no obvious, better alternatives” but it's believed that neither the Blues' owner nor Director of Football, Marcel Brands, favour an interim hire unless it's unavoidable.

It means that Silva, who will report back to Finch Farm with the first-team squad tomorrow after having Monday off, could yet be in charge when Everton travel to Leicester on Sunday as well as for the Merseyside derby at Anfield three days later.
