Earlier this season they looked almost as shite as us but the sacking of Gerrard and shrewd Unai Emery appointment has worked instant dividends.

Never understood why I still hear the "it takes 3 years" bullshit, it doesn't.
It takes a manager, coaching staff and some players with a little bit of hunger and common sense a few months to climb on board the project.

The fight in Antonio and Bowen contrasts with Maupay, Gray and Iwobi. Just shows what a poncey bunch of spineless wankers we have.

That just made it a race at the top. As for West Ham, there still in it. Only City and Brighton have lineups and systems that give us little chance. All of the other teams we have left are not dominant. With Doucoure and Onana back in midfield we could find our way to some unexpected points.

Watched the last twenty minutes thinking it's not rocket science sitting deep, closing the spaces, forcing a team to play in front of you, and then looking to break forward quickly on the counterattack.

This was exactly how Everton were playing before they went to Old Trafford.

Sensible football, playing to our strengths, and working very, very hard for each other, was building both confidence and momentum, and it's truly baffling why we have suddenly changed our formation away from something that was slowly grinding us points.

Eddie, you could argue that non of the matchday Everton squad yesterday would make the West Ham starting 11. Potentially Pickford, and Mina? But Mina doesn't seem to feature even when fit with our latest manager!

Well we'll all have to hope that our two 'favourite' red teams can get the right results in their matches today and tomorrow, ugh! even thinking that makes me feel ill, but beggars can't be choosers. It's between us and the others in the bottom five now. Leicester have to play Leeds and ourselves, and Forest have to play Southampton in the games between those bottom five teams.

Bill (52), that is exactly right. We don't have goal scorers. Unless DCL comes back or Simms suddenly turns into this goal machine, I am quite sure we will go down: Every team at the bottom seems to have better goal scorers than us. The commentator yesterday said that Everton's 3 strikers - DCL, Simms, Maupay have scored just 1 goal each all season. That is as damning a statistic as you can get about EFC. But players like Gray, Iwobi, Godfrey, Mykolenko, Maupay should never play a game again this season. Play the kids if necessary- you never know, they may surprise us!

Dave - I have noticed that Arsenal under Arteta have overplayed, indeed ManCity under Pep have done the same. Sometimes mixing it up is a good alternative. In a game like that the Arsenal players showed that they lacked the bottle to carry on playing through the press, just like at Anfield last week and as you say, they could have lost both games. I think that City will beat them and Arsenal will fall short.

Five across the midfield close to each other, working hard, closing the spaces, and then looking to get forward whenever we could.

You could see the players were not enjoying it, Pickford especially kept turning his back in despair Robert, but we kept Hitting it long in the air, and this was food and drink for the Fulham defenders.

Pass the ball, five yards ten yards, we did it once and opened up Fulham like a tin of beans, but mostly we never troubled them and played a game that suited our opponents down to the ground.

Watching United, McGuire booked in the second minute cos Forest are defending deep and then looking to break quickly. It draws players out of their defensive position because they get drawn towards the ball, imo.

Dyche got it wrong at United and carried on in the same vein yesterday. Of course we lack creativity, which surely means rule number one should be about trying to make it hard for your opponents to be creative?

This might have even helped engage the crowd instead of sucking the life out of it, is how I saw it yesterday Robert.

Ajay I think you are being a bit harsh on Simms that was his first goal since being recalled, and he was only a substitution.

Robert 59, you ask what are our strengths ? Well the only area where we have any strength has to be at centre back, in Mina, Coady and Holgate and to my mind we have to find a system where at least one of them can play. This would allow us to play wing backs which I think would suit Patterson and even allow us sight of Vinagre. Yesterday once again proved that Mawpay and Davies are not 1st team quality even for Everton.
On balance for next week I would bring in Coady, who apparently is at his best in a back three, keep in Garner as his corners and dead balls looked good, play with the wind and hope for the best.

Robert's got a point about what are the alternatives, they don't make anyone's heart beat faster.

But I agree, we needed five across midfield yesterday, same system as has been working, the only option really was Davies and Garner either side of Gana, with the former two give license to support attacks with Gana holding the fort. Gray on his own up front McNeill, Iwobi the wide midfield duties. Maupay on the bench.

We would have been more compact and harder to play against, whether the makeshift midfield are good enough for us to get three points is very debatable. But still I think we would have had a better outcome yesterday using it.

Forest forwards piss me off the way they run up on kickers with other cheap tricks and then play act for fouls. Body posture and facial expressions make it look coached.

Okay and now that you chimed in, I'm wondering if both stamina and Duke's unique close downs were the reason for the system change. Without him McNeil is too slow and Iwobi too ineffective to help whover tries to replace him. They would just get run down and we had already been playing the same eleven for a while. Tried for early goals and had chances but that was the only card to play.

Tony, excellent summary of yesterday, and sadly the result, has changed the dynamics, and today and tomorrow we need favours, United and the RS.

On yesterday's performance we will be lucky to get a point from the remaining games if Dyche does not get them back to basics.
Admittedly we were without a few of our better players but that was one of the worst performances I have ever seen at top level football. It wasn't even surrender but was more akin to watching a bunch of kids who have never played the game before. Fulham were coming into that game on the back of an horrendous bit of form but they sensed our fear and tore us to shreds.
There was a complete dereliction of duty by too many players and it showed that without Seamus Coleman we have no leader to drive us on. Hopefully Coleman and Doucouré are back next week and Maupay is nowhere near the squad. Hoofball can work sometimes but we embarrassed ourselves trying to get it up to him.
We are lucky to be still in with a chance of survival but that's more down to other teams results and we are now well and truly in the last chance saloon for survival. A better way of putting it may be to use that old proverb of, “A drowning man will clutch at straws.”

West Ham have too much quality, they'll be fine. Bournemouth can do this amazing thing called scoring goals, which means they'll be okay. Leeds are right in it as well; but if any of that bottom three get their act together, I think we are done.

This club gets what it deserves. You ask any fan last summer about Maupay. They would point out that he pops up with goals for Brighton, but that they create far more chances than Everton. And he isn't suited as a lone striker because he has no pace and isn't a target man. In short, the last kind of forward we should sign. Someone presumably on many thousands of pounds a week, can't see the obvious and we waste more money. And who the Hell scouted Mykolenko?

David # 65, I think Allardyce would play a back 3 in order to get 3 tall CBs into the side for set pieces. Possibly also a duo of Maupay and Simms up front. This would be accompanied by no attempt whatsoever to play any decent football.

Although, Tony, we definitely should play a passing game - I don't think any manager has really believed we have the quality to do it since Silva (apart from a brief spell under Ancelotti until we got found out and Lampard in a fairly shambolic unconvincing sort of way).

Like I say, I do agree Dyche got it wrong but it's a lot easier to get it right with a decent set of players.

Tony (102) I'm guessing you never saw the game Tony, it was the very poor tackle the young lad made just before the excellent one he produced on the winger who made a meal of the situation, unfortunately it was a yellow and his second one so he had to go off.

Yeah the one Tony's referring too a second later was a really fantastic tackle. The one a second earlier was late and a yellow card.

Ishe Samuels-Smith is still only16, and was a bit rash at times and out of position, but it is clear to see that he has great potential, still a way to go but no wonder Dyche has him with first team training.

Bill, it's hard times, alas, but a fact of this season, for Everton, and to stay in this League.

I never want United, RS, to win, but the facts are cast iron, and Everton, need some good fortune, over the next month.

I still believe Everton, can get a point at Palace, beat Leicester and Wolves away, and at least draw with the Skunks at home, which is normally a feisty game. How they react to their defeat will be interesting. City could have an unlikely off day against Everton, but who knows.

The problem we have has been staring us in the face since Lukaku and Deulofeu went.

We just don't have goalscorers and when the defence and MF are not up to par we concede goals and then cant get back into a game.

The initial KITAP1has evaporated along with the absence Doucoure, Onana and Coleman.

On form we are definitely the worst team in the Premiership and its only the lift the supporters give them and the efforts of one or two players that are keeping us out of the bottom three. All the bottom teams have a difficlt run in bu we are the ones not in form and Who cant see Leicester pulling a rabbit out of the hat.

We just have to hope that Leeds have a collapse and we pick up some points somewhere.

Based on remaining fixtures, I can't see Soton, Forest or Leicester getting above 33 points.

So everything to play for - and why it is so infuriating to lose last Saturday.

Since Dyche arrived, the teams in the bottom five have managed the following:

Everton 12 points from 11 games
Leeds Utd 11 from 11
Southampton 8 from 11
Leicester 7 points from 11
Nottm Forest 6 from 11

The last six games for Everton has yielded six points, less than we would have hoped for, but Leeds have taken 7 points, Leicester only one point, Southampton 2 points, and Forest one point. I can't see where this fabled momentum shift is coming from? I hope the last seven matches for all those sides continues with the same trend, we'd be safe!

Sometimes I genuinely hate football nowadays because of poor officials getting kidded by cheats, and if I had it my way I'd bring in an automatic sin-bin for cheating.

Since the premier league resumed following the World Cup, leicester have played sixteen games, won one, drew two and lost thirteen. They have lost eight out of the last nine, and yet some seem to think their class players will be enough to guide them to safety. If they were that classy, where have they been for the last sixteen matches? Bottom three as it stands now, will be the bottom three come the end of the season.

Tony (121) I understand your last two paragraphs perfectly Tony, but the first, very bad, tackle happened literally five seconds before the second one and I think the referee had blown up for the first tackle, as I said Tony I don't think you saw the game or the incident because I know you would have understood that the referee was correct on this occasion, unless of course you'd had a few Guinness and when the ales in the wit is out!!

You'd have to watch it Tony, Ishe took the RS player out with a late tackle, immediately the RS player got up and tried to attack, then Ishe reacts and does the perfect tackle on him. The yellow for the first one was justified. All happened in a couple of seconds.

Dave, Danny, Tony, It was great at the pub on Saturday having a good natter with you all and all the other lads making it a ToffeeWeb Live! Great putting names to faces I respect for football knowledge and quite a bit of wit as well.

There's no point in writing that we played well on Saturday; we didn't.

I couldn't make me mind up whether Fulham played really well, or we were that bad, we let them. A bit of both I think. I'm made up up for Silva; I think we got shut of him way too early.

As for us? Our defficiencies were glaring and with DCL, Doucouré and Seamus missing it's no wonder. However. As poor as we were; we scored a really good goal and missed two what should have been certain goals. Those two chances were also well worked. Now what those would have done to Fulham's confidence, who knows!

Our defence looked very vulnerable, so I hope we can get Seamus and Doucouré back and do our best to be hard to break down and take our chances instead of fluffing them!

As for Liverpool winning tonight, I hope they whack every one of our competitors they play between now and the season end. Mind you I hope every team, including us,beat them an all!.

I'll just put in here, some thoughts while I was sitting in the parlour watching the match, while those True Blues had gone the match to join the many thousands more. From the days of St Domingo's when lads got together to form our first team right up to now, only once have we been relegated and that was for 3 years.

I know the danger we're in will be fought in every game by the players and the supporters. The danger we're in now has been due to a 30 year trail of misrule, left by that snail who crept in and became our Chairman. Kenwright.

BUT, we need to start pulling our finger out and find at least 2-3 wins from our remaining 7 games.

Simplify the game plan, back to 4-5-1 and up the intensity by 100% from the Fulham game.

The Everton team that were crowned champions in 1928, suffered relegation in the 1929-30 season, they bounced back immediately and went on to win the league and the FA Cup in consecutive seasons. Of course the last relegation was in 1951, therefore Everton have spent 4 seasons outside the top league.

A general consensus that we are now very good, indeed we are very poor and the only way forward over the next 7 games is to go with 4-5-1 and hope that the rub of the green goes our way.

Everytime Dyche has swiitched away from it we have lost. That is because the players can only work in the most simple of systems.

Ancelotti understood it, Lampard figured it out and Dyche implemented it from day 1 with success. He evidently feels he needs certain players to implement it, hence the switch to 4-4-2.

What is 100% certain is that this squad cannot win a game in any other formation.

They could get 3 wins out of 7, or 0. I'd hazard between 3-10 points, so between 30 and 37, and our survival depends much on them not gaining any boost.

West Ham will play both Leeds and Leicester, so we could really do with West Ham winning both them and thus getting away from danger themselves. the rest of their games, Bournemouth, Liverpool, Palace, City, Man Utd, Brentford could yield 0 points, more likely something closer to 4. so they'll end, I expect, with between 7-10 points, so 38 and 41 points.

I am sure Sean Dyche is the only one who will know if this was beneficial or not, cant really see the benefit of arranging a game this late in the season. I know some will say it gave DCL some game time but with 26 Premier league players at our disposal wouldn't it have been a bigger test for DCL to play against Mina and Coady than Northern Conference league defenders.
Surely one of the reasons for arranging this training game was to try and get some confidence into a side who are really struggling on that front, and I am not sure losing to Chester would have helped our confidence. I know some are saying don't pay any attention to the result, but I don't know any Professional sportsman who doesnt try and win friendly or not. I am sure Tony Abrahams will testify to how tough 5 a side friendlies against team mates could be.

I know this will be seen as beneficial to DCL and maybe thats right although I am sure Dyche may have been hoping for a goal or 2 might have been beneficial. DCL played 70 minutes, which on the face of it looks promising, but he played 70 minutes against Arsenal and had a very influential impact, and when he came off with nothing outwardly showing we havent seen him since.

Agree with what you're saying Brian, because some training games can be brilliant and get really competitive, but there's nothing like the real thing, and when you look at Everton's team yesterday, hardly any of them have played many minutes in 2023.

Just a thought on a few fans who have been suggesting Mina coming back into the team – he could be an improvement on Keane, but I have watched him in the last three home matches at half-time when they do set training pieces: he just goes through the motions, hardly bothers.

They do some 50-yard runs, he stops short going and coming back, it seems to me he knows he is not going to be used. he'll be well short of match fitness anyway and his joints are not built for football, they give way at any real exhaustion on them.
