Dele Alli was only here on loan???

by   |   20/11/2022  7 Comments  [Jump to last]

Did anyone notice that story in the Daily Mirror today and the way they talked about Dele Alli?

Kieran Trippier provides theory on what caused Dele Alli's dramatic fall from grace

It came as a bit of a shock to me to learn that (a) we only had him on loan, and thus (b) he returned to Spurs who subsequently loaned him out to Besiktas! So therefore (c) he is not currently an Everton player that we have out on loan!!!

I'd prefer to forget he ever played for us (I wasn't convinced about his fabled second-half contribution to that fine comeback win last season) but I know we spent a good few threads arguing about the possible ways he was contracted to us, how he was our player, how much we would have to pay for him, how little we could sell him for etc, etc.

Or have I just been suckered in yet again by those damn newspapers and the lies they print?  I suppose this one is the giveaway I should have spotted earlier:

"Alli joined Everton on loan from Tottenham at the end of last season"

Not unless the season ended in January!

Michael,

That article was written by Jake Polden, I've never heard of him. He's most probably a young writer who doesn't delve into what he is writing about and the editor is a bit older than him so couldn't care less.

Thank God for ToffeeWeb and the people who run it!!

Dave A,

Well said, a young journo writing nonsense, not checked by anyone.

Michael, next you will be quoting articles from the Daily Star. :)

Shocking lack of diligence and integrity then from this august and once highly respected organ of the socialist left. I mean, it's something you could understand from the sloppy right-wing Tory media.

We know this is total garbage because Dele was with our squad in the pre-season. He scored a couple of goals in the friendly at Blackpool.

More news on Ali and Kean.
Besiktas are not planning to make Dele Alli's loan move permanent, according to Turkish daily Sabah.
Everton sent Alli to the Turkish outfit on a season-long loan over the summer in a deal that includes an option to make the move permanent. But as part of a wider revamp next year, they have reportedly decided to let him go back to Goodison Park.
The 26-year-old has failed to impress since moving to Turkey, with his own manager openly criticising his performances.
Alli's contract at Everton runs out in the summer.

Newcastle United are interested in signing Moise Kean once he makes his loan to Juventus permanent, according toJuve Dipendenza.

Kean is midway through the second of his two seasons on loan in Turin, with Juve obligated to make the move permanent come summer for £24million - and that's on top of the £6million loan fee that has already been paid.

The 22-year-old had shown much of the inconsistency that weighed him down at Goodison Park, but five goals in five game prior to the World Cup break may have changed the picture somewhat.
The report states that Juventus are 'afraid of losing' the Italian once they make the move a permanent one, with Eddie Howe's Magpies keen on bringing him back to the Premier League and Kean 'eager to redeem himself in England after his bad experience with Everton.'

Paul (5),

I think Everton signed Alli on a 2½-year deal. I think his deal with Everton runs out in the summer of 2024, so we will be stuck with him for another 12 months when he comes back next summer.

Dele Alli is doing okay at Besiktas, at least he's playing for a change. Besiktas wasn't going to take on his wages next season. I've always thought we'll see Dele in training camp next July. Still do.

He's not doing great. He's not doing poorly. And he's getting playing time.
