Who Has Been Everton’s Player of the Season?

With the 2022/23 Premier League season coming to a close, now is a good time to look back at the campaign and determine the players that have shone in an Everton shirt. Here is a look at three players who are in contention to be the Toffees’ Player of the Season.

Jordan Pickford

England number one Jordan Pickford consistently shows, in an Everton shirt, why Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate trusts him more than any other English goalkeeper. It has been another fantastic campaign from Pickford, who has picked up seven clean sheets heading into the final round of fixtures in the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.

Pickford won the Save of the Season award in the Premier League last year, and he is a strong candidate again in the current campaign. One of his most important saves came against Leicester on the 1st of May when he saved a James Maddison penalty, which ensured his side picked up a point in a 2-2 draw.

The official Everton Player of the Season award went to Pickford following the 2017/18 and 2021/22 campaigns. If successful this year, he will become the first player since the award was rebranded in 2005 to be handed the prize three times, which would be a great achievement.

Pickford will be in action across the summer for England in the Euro 2024 qualifiers. Their next game comes on the 16th of June when they take on Malta. England is currently priced at odds 1/50 in the outright markets for sports betting Zambia to come away with all three points. The Everton shot-stopper will be going all he can to help his country qualify for the European Championship in 2024.

James Tarkowski

Heading into the final Premier League game of the season, defender James Tarkowski has not missed a minute of the campaign. He is one of only four players to have played every minute, the other three are goalkeepers, which says a lot about that accomplishment.

Not only has Tarkowski been consistently fit, but he has been one of Everton’s best defenders this season. He has recorded 78 blocks in that time frame, which is some distance from the best in the league. Wolves’ Maximilian Kilman is second on that list with 42 blocks.

The former Burnley defender signed for the club last summer on a free transfer. That is one of the best pieces of business done by Everton in many years.

Dwight McNeil

Winger Dwight McNeil was another player that joined Everton from Burnley last summer. In his debut campaign at Goodison Park, he scored seven goals in his opening 35 games in the Premier League.

McNeil has put 182 crosses into the box this season in his 35 games in the league. That has given the Toffees lots of chances to put the ball into the back of the net. Along with Demarai Gray, the pair have been a big part of their side’s attacking threat.

Good luck to all the Everton players at the end of the season awards at the club and in the Premier League.
