Forest move ahead of Everton in pursuit of Cornet
Nottingham Forest have reportedly stepped up in their interest in signing Maxwel Cornet from Burnley and could have a key financial edge over Everton and Fulham.
According to the Daily Mail, the newly-promoted Midlanders are more prepared to meet the Clarets' terms when it comes to the structure of the transfer fee which would be around the £17.5m needed to trigger the winger's release clause.
The Toffees and the Cottagers are said to have only offered a loan option for Cornet or, at most, a £5m down payment with the rest of the fee paid in instalments.
That tallies with Everton's financial situation this summer where they are having to make low-ball offers up front in order to land as many targets as possible and remain compliant with the Premier League's rules around profitability and sustainability.

It means, however, that they can easily be gazumped by rival clubs willing to offer more on the front end of a deal or pay the lump sum in full, the latter scenario being more favourable to Burnley who need to account for the effects of losing their Premier League status in May.

Money is that tight, we've got to save and economise as best we can. Maybe that's why Moshiri shouted from his Ivory Tower, "judge us at the end of the window". Trouble is we will have played 6 games by then and in my opinion have a lot of catching up to do. Horses that linger in the stalls very rarely get into the race.

Now a team that has been out of the premier league donkey's years can outspend us, and get a very useful player, and he will score more than the players i've mentioned did (not Salah or course).

None of the hierarchy should dismiss what Frank said about the threat of relegation. Every word of it is true. He is sounding a warning to Moshiri that he has to do something now before it's too late.
By hook or by crook we have to get some targets over the line. The whole board and owner should be in a war room now for the next few weeks giving full backing and every resource to Kevin Thelwell and Frank. This is no time for being absent from the front line in Monte Carlo or focusing on the latest West End musical.
We had the ‘never again' slogan bandied about in May after a near miracle escape that the magnificent fans somehow coaxed from the players. Right now we are a weaker team, definitely offensively, in a league where others are getting stronger.
It's time for Action from our board, not sound bites.
Well done and massive appreciation to everyone who attended the protest today. The board should not underestimate the groundswell of disenchantment.

Obviously it should be achievable by well run clubs to buy good players quickly! Let's hope we don't do the opposite!!
My understanding is that there IS money but we are trying to spread 35m over 5 needed players this summer. Hence low upfront offers.

Over at Everton however we can comfort ourselves that we have all the tools needed to have 40 points on board by May, no ambition of having a good season, just float head above water for another year until we eventually sink.

I have checked the upcoming fixtures and none are on Fantasy Island !
Despite them getting Cheese and Onion Flavoured Crisps !
Tatu, always shouted for The Plain, The Plain, Boss ! :-)

Now we're adopting a more measured approach, and people are all over Twitter saying "Just pay the damn release clause and get it done. What's the problem?"

Presumably more free transfers and loans to keep the spending down?
I'm hoping for 2 or 3 - so let's see. And let's hope we're all pleasantly surprised by the end of the window. Still some very good players available.

Have the coffers been slammed shut by the FA, are we not allowed to spend? I am not asking for actual numbers, just the comment, "we have been limited by the FA due to the rules on FFP" it would stop the conjecture, the frustration within the fanbase. We would know we're we are. Moshiri's " judge me at the end of the transfer window" is empty rhetoric without any activity.
How did the board allow this financial situation to happen? This is not all down to Moshiri buying at a whim, this is a collective series of decisions made over his whole tenure. He funded the decisions but why was not the implications of spending that much managed by the board with respect to FFP? Who didn't say no we can't when the cheques were being written? Who was responsible for compliance of FFP? That's not Moshiri, that's the board.
The road to hell may be paved with good intentions, but ignoring the road signs is wilful stupidity.
We are were we are, but that's the problem, we are lost. Without a map, without a captain and the crew fearing for their lives. We need direction, we need leadership, not silence.

Not to mention the "Join Everton's relegation battle" warcry.
21 Posted 23/07/2022 at
It's a sense now that the club right now, is barely able to compete in the transfer market, and I really hope that in the end of incoming players it's not all done on the last minute.
But hopefully stealth, guile and patience can make it happen.
Hope eternal.

I really cannot understand the mentality of those meant to running this Club. Aren't they concerned or worried? I'm only a lowly Supporter, and I'm terrified at the path we are taking.

Joe, yes it's either forty if we play him, or just his wages if we don't. Problem is, his wages will add up to nearly 㿀m over two and a half years, and that would be money almost literally being flushed down the toilet. Paying him not to play.
27 Posted 23/07/2022 at
We don't openly admit how strapped we are cos if we did it would leave us in an even more exposed and vulnerable position.
With respect to FFP, Moshiri went for broke for Europe. He gambled on "hollywood" managers and backed them financially...he, Moshiri and Moshiri alone got it very badly wrong.
However your final paragraph...nail on the head. Could not agree more.
PS Apologies Bernie #22...perhaps a little too explicit😊

Frank could potentially be forced to player youngsters, but we live in hope.
It's gonna be tough and let's hope any loan players arriving don't end up not being used like King and El Ghazi.

Interesting everyone though DCL was gonna go to Arsenal for 40 million. No chance they are making some shrewd additions.
Expect Duncan to he brought back as first team manager. What a pathetic circus the club has become. Mr Kenwright over the years is killing the antiquated Grand Old Team. Christ I just wish he'd Do One!
30 Posted 23/07/2022 at
There's not a snowballs chance in hell that Frank will leave Everton. He needs to succeed at Everton as much, if not more, as Everton need him to succeed.
Interesting comment on the the Big Man...did he see the writing on the wall, perhaps?

We started last season with hope and optimism, despite the manager. In October we were in the top 4. We then went on to have the worst injury record in the league, and that hurt us.
A fully fit Everton squad, whilst not brilliant, should finish roughly mid table. Add a couple of signing to that and we could easily be top 10.
We have Englands best keeper, arguably one of the best in the world. We have a striker that has proven her can score twenty a season. Between the two we have a number of quality players - Godfrey, Mikienko, Gordon, Mina, and a few good players, Duke, Allan, etc.
Provided we are managed properly, we should be fine. Honestly, some on here just revel in predicted misery

Did we have the worst injury record in the league ever? Not sure how one would actually grade that.
Just goes to show that facts and/or opinions can be put out to make any argument.
But I think you are waaaaaay off.

Now a Spanish footy website reports we have tabled an offer.
Hold me, I'm scared.

So it is cheap purchases with players who have potential, (where have we heard that before ?) or a few loans from different parent Clubs. Worryingly the clock is ticking and becoming louder, so fear that panic deals may ensue.

Sack the board!!

It seems to me that we are almost in a catatonic state at the moment. Moshiri hiding in n his Monte Carlo tax haven. Kenshite awol in London, terrified of making decisions or showing his fat gob in public.
Our dreams have turned into nightmares with these two dickheads in charge. Lord have mercy on us.

No wonder we are in this horrible situation. I am fully convinced we will be in the bottom three by the next international break.
43 Posted 25/07/2022 at
I don't blame Thelwell for reaching out to Burnley with a Loan-to-Buy proposal to begin with, and then an installment & incentives-driven deal (e.g. £9MM down payment with another £11MM incentives that would bring the Total Value higher than the Release Clause Amount). Never likely to have those agreed by Burnley with our sour relationships with them after the run-in at the end of last season, but if you don't ask, you will never get.
I don't anticipate any Permanent Deals to be struck until we have unloaded some of the salaries on the book (Gomes, Keane, Holgate, Davies), especially the expiring contracts of Mina & Allan. Clubs remotely interested in them might not even show their intents until much closer to the Transfer Deadline to make their approaches (mostly to try knocking the prices down but some teams would only know by then whether they are qualified for European Football), so we can fully expect our hands being tied until then.

Are we seriously after this guy or is it just media talk? Bearing in mind our financial position, there has got to be better deals out there for players whose stats are more encouraging, hasn't there? I'm afraid I don't understand.

In comparison
Cornet (winger / full back) 26 app - 9 goals £17.5m
Richarlison (forward) 30 app - 10 goals £60.0m
Both age 25
I would imagine Cornet would be on less salary
Doesn't seem a bad bit of business to me
50 Posted 27/07/2022 at
Nine goals in 26 games for a relegated team in your first season. What would you value him at?
Bear in mind Richarlison's stats, more central position, added experience in the league and the fee we got for him
