Aston Villa U21s 1 - 2 Everton U21s
Everton U21s travelled to Boymoor Heath Training Ground near Tamworth where two quick goals scored just before the hour mark were enough to turn this game around against a strong Aston Villa side this afternoon in this Premier League 2 contest.
Centre-half William Tamen, a summer signing for the U21s from League One side Burton Albion, made just two Premier League 2 appearances for Paul Tait's side before suffering a meniscus root injury that required surgery.
After 5 months of rehabilitation, the 18-year-old has started the past three games for the U21s, playing 45 minutes in a victory over Brighton & Hove Albion, 82 minutes in a defeat to Southampton and playing his first full 90 in last week's impressive 2-2 draw with table-topping Fulham.
The first half was rather uneventful but the home side struck just after the restart.
Everton responded 10 minutes later with a goal from Omari Benjamin, which was immediately followed by a second for Martin Sherif. And that's the way it finished – a fine win for the Young Blues.
Everton U21s: Barnsley, Dixon, Thomas (85' Samuels-Smith), Tamen, Welch, J Patterson (61' Bates), Benjamin, Heath, Sherif (61' Gomez), Graham (86' Barker), Ebere.
Subs not Used: Gospel-Eze.

Tricky work from our number 11, but when the rebound fell to number 10, he took a "fresh air" shot. Nice follow up pile driver that forced a decent save from the keeper.

I'll have to listen to those who watch more regularly, but the few times that I have tuned in, Benjamin has caught the eye.

These matches are no preparation for the intensity of "real" footie.
