Everton U21s 1 – 2 Southampton U21s
Everton U21s continue their Premier League 2 campaign with a fixture against Southampton at a cavernous, echoey Goodison Park on Friday night, where two yellow cards shown to Josh van Schoor either side of half-time with Everton leading changed the game.
The Young Blues won a penalty when Melvin Matos was brought down near the Southampton goal and Harvey Foster (23′) gave Everton the lead with a fantastic spot-kick into the roof of the net in the first half but that was after they lost William Tamen earlier.
Josh van Schoor was shown a second yellow card for a fairly innocuous pull-back early in the second half and that put the Blues down to 10 men. Rocco Lambert was sacrificed for Aled Thomas to restore the defensive backline to try and see out the win.
But it was all Southampton after that gift from the referee, and they equalized after 70 minutes with a sharp strike that beat Lukjanciks in the top corner. And within another 10 minutes, the Young Saints had taken the lead.
