December 2000

Dec 31:   Bill Kenwright has been named in the New Year's Honours List to receive the CBE for services to the entertainment industry.

Dec 30:  Today's Premiership match against Leeds United was postponed, mainly over safety concerns about snow and ice on approach roads and pavements.

Dec 29:   Everton FC held their AGM for shareholders at Goodison Park.  This report is from Phil Pellow

Dec 28:  Lee Wilkie, the tall Scottish U-21 defender who has fallen out with coach Ivano Bonetti at Dundee, will be coming to Everton next week for a three-week trial.

Dec 27:  The stupidity of an imbecilic Everton fan could cost the club dear after yesterday's fiasco.

Dec 26:  Duncan Ferguson was on from the start and Everton began well, but failed to score from a number of good chances. Coventry came back into it, finally running out 2-1 winners and confirming Everton's new position as relegation contenders.

Dec 25:  It is not certain that Campbell and Pembridge will really be fit for the Boxing Day scrap with Coventry.

Dec 23:  Tommy Myhre back in goal, watches a Charlton corner flash past him as Svensson heads the Addicks into the lead after just 7 minutes.  Duncan Ferguson livened things up in the second half, but failed to score...

Dec 22:  Joe-Max Moore has come third in the US Footballer of the Year stakes.

Dec 21:  Everton face the dreadful prospect of losing both Kevin Campbell and Mark Pembridge to the ravages of a viral infection in the build-up to their match at Charlton.

Dec 18:   After the injury to Paul Gerrard, Everton have issued a plea to the FA for Tommy Myhre to return early from his loan spell at Tranmere.

Dec 18:  John Suenson-Taylor, aka Lord Grantchester – John Moores' grandson – is to step down as a director of Everton FC.

Dec 17:  Paul Gerrard could be out for two weeks after twisting his knee near the end of the West Ham match.

Dec 17:  Everton have appointed a new Commercial Manager, Andy Oldknow, 30, previously with Octagon and IMG.

Dec 17:  Everton are keeping tight-lipped about Paul Gerrard's injury – a twisted, damaged or dislocated knee that might force the return of Tommy Myhre???

Dec 16:  A very even match against West Ham United ended 1-1 due to two key interventions by full back Steve Watson.  One a headed goal, deflected on the line by Cadamarteri; then a ridiculous penalty-area dribble that went wrong; Kanouté pounced.

Dec 15:  Everton's young bucks put up a tough fight at the City Ground but a critical last-minute goal gave the tie to Nottingham Forest by a score of 3-2 in the FA Youth Cup 3rd Round replay.

Dec 13:  Everton have postponed their reserves match against Man Utd on Thursday to ensure a strong line-up for the FA Youth Cup replay at Notts Forest on Friday.  This weekend's youth league games have also been postponed.

Dec 12:  Richard Gough is visiting the knee doctor today – hopefully for some good news on his protracted injury woes...

Dec 11:  Everton players were forced to relive their abysmal performance v City on video after today's training session.

Dec 10:  An unhappy Walter Smith cancelled Everton's Christmas fancy-dress party and instead called the players in for extra training on Sunday, after the Man City débâcle.

Dec 10:   Everton have been drawn away to Watford in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup.

Dec 9:  A fifth yellow card for badboy Alex Nyarko means an automatic suspension for the Charlton (a) match.

Dec 9:  With more players (including Big Dunc!!!) back from injury, Walter Smith had the freedom once again to mess with the team selection... to utterly dire effect.  Everton crashed 5-0 at Manchester City.

Dec 8:  Everton FC Co Ltd announced losses of over £11M last financial year, with player-contract payoffs (Bilic and Williamson) accounting for £5M of that!

Dec 7:  Everton, in dire need of some good news, are projecting the return of Duncan Ferguson to competitive football... by the end of the year.

Dec 6:  Forgotten Dane Peter Degn has returned from a two-month loan spell with Aarhus.

Dec 6:  Another blow to Gazza's renaissance with Everton: he needs a hernia operation and will be sidelined for at least another month.

Dec 6:  A Daily Mail hack has picked up on the recent Daily Post story and found his own unnamed sources to slam Everton's bid for Kings Dock as a "non-starter."

Dec 5:  Sunderland hold the jinx over a weakened Everton reserves side, running out 1-0 winners.

Dec 5:   Everton have finally set a date for the Annual General Meeting of shareholders on Friday 29 December 2000.  Click here for more stuff from the Fans Focus meeting with Dunford et al.

Dec 4:  Everton failed to make it four in a row after creating – then squandering – numerous chances before Sunderland recovered to take the game 2-0 with plenty to spare.

Dec 3:  Walter Smith's selection conundrum was eased tonight when Niclas Alexandersson was withdrawn with the flu.

Dec 2:  The U-19s beat Bolton 3-0, but our intrepid reporter watched the U-17s lose a close match with the Trotters, 2-3.

Dec 1:  Walter Smith has received a massive setback in his hopes to once again see a full squad available for selection, with Jeffers in pain when he kicks the ball.

Dec 1:  Tony Grant is being sent out on loan from Manchester City to West Brom, apparently confirming his failure to make the grade at Main Road.
