Kopite hooligans

Comments (6)

Usually, I don't give a toss what's happening over on the dark side, but just lately, it's grabbed my attention and I hope my fellow Toffemen can help me out.

Having being voted the worst fans in Europe, most "letters pages" are now rightly condemning them. Unfortunately it's now spread from Kopites to all Scousers. It's time for us Blue Scousers to let the world know that the Blue half of Merseyside didn't cause any trouble in Athens.

Even over in Oz I've had a few heated discussions with Italian supporters calling me 'Scouse hooligan' but I must admit after explaining to them the merits of being from the peoples club they have apologized.

So fellow Evertonians get writing! And let the world know US SCOUSERS, THE BLUE SCOUSERS ARE NOT HOOLIGANS!

I do believe that what you have stated is correct, to use the word scousers is a put down on scousers per say. As it appeares that the majority of people that travelled to Greece were not scousers, but Norwegians, Wesch, Wiganers, and not indeed Scousers, as portrayed by the media. The Scousers were in the Ale house, and as I am a scouser, I feel a bit bretrayed by this acusation (scouse hooligans). If the woollybacks can't behave themselves when on tour with their idols please stay at home and stroke the dog or eat the pies, or do what woolybacks do and arm wrestle eachothers' wives.

I am referring to the issue of the moment regards the RS rampaging through Europe and their attendant behaviour. Whilst I am in a small way glad that their supposed ill deserved reputation as the paragons of all things fair, has at last been questioned, the thing that is nagging at the back of my mind, is that our enthusiasm to join in the condemnation might come back to haunt us.

In a few weeks time we will embark on a hopefully longer journey in Europe than a couple of years ago. We would be kidding ourselves if we ignore the likelihood of any slight misdemeanour by Blues fans being blown up out of all proportion by media, locals etc. At this point you can only imaging the joy that the RS would have in pointing this out to us.

Let us keep a low profile over this matter and let Rick Parry and all the other RS apologists I have heard today dig themselves into an even deeper hole.

It is all too easy to blame Liverpool fans for the trouble caused in Athens. Like many other Evertonians I have many friends who support Liverpool FC and are certainly not hooligans. Talking to them after the Champions League final it it clear that whilst they were not all saints - the major source of the trouble stemmed from Uefa's inability to handle such a major event.

But what does concern me are the rumblings coming out of Uefa. If we go back to 1985 - I am convinced that the reason English clubs were barred from Europe had very little to do with the tragic events at Hysel. It had more to do with the fact that English teams were dominating all three European trophies on offer - and Uefa did not like that! Similar occurences are happening again. For the last three years English teams have reached the Champions League final. With the new Sky sponsorship deal the gap beteween the Premiership and Europe will get wider and England will again dominate in Europe. Uefa will not want that to happen again so they are building up a dossier to bar us once again. A conspiracy theory? Maybe - but it is this that concerns me most about what Platini et al are saying.

Last season I was given a season ticket to watch Man Utd v Everton at their place by a work colleague, I had to explain to countless Man U fans sat around me (in their end by the way) that singing "murderers" to our lot was so far off the mark it was criminal and went on to explain how they destroyed Everton as a club thanks to their lovely travelling hordes of thugs. Unfortunately it’s not just Journo’s with the wrong idea, but given that the Livershite Echo only spews utter red shite bollocks and Sky only ever supports "it’s own" then we have to educate in person and I will continue to do that for as long as it takes no matter what journo’s gloss over like the heinous crap in today’s Livershite Echo.

The idiots from Liverpool are demading tough action on the Echo website (www.icliverpool.co.uk) under the headline news of "resign". They've listed notorious incidents in Europe which have occured recently but with all due respect, failed to mention Heysel. If you know your history...

I don't think anyone has actually said this yet but we should ban them from European competition before they do any more serious damage. If we stop them competing NOW than we can rest easy that there will be no blanket ban on English clubs that may again scupper our development and stunt out success.

What may have happend had this not happened before doesn't even bear thinking about - we could have been Kings of Europe for a long time with the success that was on offer with the team that we had.
