To move or not to move?
Comments (3)
Having been a blue all my life, I first went to Goodison in 1958 as a 6 yo. As I grew older, I regularly attended each fortnight, becoming a season-ticket holder in the late 60s and 70s. Followed the blues ever since.
I have been in Aussie 25 years and paid a return visit last June. I am sorry to say that the proud old lady Goodison is in disrepair and looks shoddy and out of date. For the Blues to advance, I am afraid a move is the only way. Rebuilding in the shadow of a new Anfield is a thought not worth considering. I hate the redshite and always will.
In order to compete with the likes of the Redshite, Mancs, Chelski etc we need better facilities and more income generation through a new stadium. Liverpool Council sold us out. A move 4 miles down the road, even if it is Kirkby (home of Z Cars) will pay benefits for us. It's either move or wither, I am afraid to say.

Your return Geoff after a number of years away may well have brought a certain despair after viewing Goodison after all that time... certainly needs sprucing up.
However, your time away will not have led you to the experience of the newly built stadiums which many teams up and down the country have moved to.
I’ve been to the Emirates and Wembley., have friends who support teams who have recently moved, heard fans’ opinions of their moves, be it Man City, Middlesboro, Derby, Huddersfield... And the majority can’t stand soulless bowl stadiums in retail parks.
Also, so what if Liverpool build a new stadium, why does that put us in the shade? They can have their symmetrical corporate hang out; we can have a renovated stadium. I know which fans will be the happier!
Re: Nick
(i) If the evidence is to be believed, we are not building a ’bowl’.
(ii) The happier fans will be the one who’s team wins more.
(iii) We cannot have a stadium that is only fit to be used 19 times a year. We need a stadium that will be used for more than just matches in order to generate income. If we leave Goodison the way it is, or even improve it slightly (a slight improvement is all that is possible), then what kind of company would choose it over the new Anfield two minutes away, with all its state of art facilties?
W ith you being away for so long Im suprised that you could make this judgement as you say 25years and thats a long time so how can you have your finger on the pulse ,Perhaps you could explain to us how leaving our city helps us not liverpool.you dont mention the lose of fan base the life blood of all teams so you are willing to gamble are long term future on a short term gain if it is even that could you show me the benifits please as you must have the facts to back up this presumption are Tesco giving us the ground ,what imput in its design have Everton got a say in are just two off the top of my head if Tesco are going to leash the ground to us then you are aware that Everton will then be in a position of owning nothing no training ground or stadium this is not how I see a great future I have no doubt of your senserity I have also been going since58 and still am I also realise the conditions should be better, but If we move what happens if the corparate boxs are not filled and with respect to Kirby can you see sponsors running to get in on the act
