Stop The Panic
Comments (10)
We are eight days into the transfer window (offically) and already the panic seems to be widespread! We should all relax. We have a very good core to the team with the likes of Lescott, Yobo, Arteta, Cahill, Johnson and Howard ? all players Moyes has bought. Even his doubters must admit that is a good basis for a squad! (Curbishly thinks so any way, if the rumors are true!)
I think over the next month or so the signings of Jagielka (a versatile squad player), Koumas (a very accomplished wide man), and Nugent (not proven but has potential), will leave us with a good core ready to take the next step. All are players who have stated their desire to come to Everton and very much not the likes of Parker, an overated, over-paid greedy bastard!
If, by the end of July, nobody has been signed then we should panic but at the moment just relax and have some faith.
By the way, if any doubters of Moyes can suggest a manager who can sign players like Lescott for £4 million, now worth £10 million at least, Arteta, £2 million now worth £15 million at least, Cahill, Johnson, Yobo etc, I'm welcome to suggestions and we can get rid of Moyes! Give the man credit; for every sack of shite, ie, Krøldrop and some may say Beattie ? but who said he was crap when we signed him? ? Moyes has done well. Let's all relax and see what happens! COYB!

We would relax, Chris, if we hadn't been down this road the last time we were gearing up for Europe. It's natural for fans to be apprehensive given how many transfer windows we've suffered through under Moyes's tenure and had so little to show when the window slams shut. Few could contest that he's signed some gems; we just need a few more of them to wage a battle on two fronts next season!
I agree with Chris. We’re all passionate Evertonians and would love to see the glory days back again when players would flood to Goodison full of loyalty and pride for the blue shirt. With the change in climate and the conpetition against the ’Billionaire backed clubs’ Moyes is taking Everton forward in small steps that will hopefully see us mainatin a level of consistency year in year out. Speaking with common sense and not from the heart, our 4th place finnish and last venture into Europe was a bit of a fluke and full of inexperience. Selling our front two, Rooney and Radzinski, didn’t help matters either. I can’t see that happening again. Lets be patient (impossible I know) and have trust in a manager that’s still learning his trade but full of potential.
"All for one, one for all..... Forever EVERTON."
ivan please please don’t give us the line of " let’s be patient" i remember joe royale saying that. i mean, how patient can a fan get? i like moysie and i am not here to slag the man, i am here to hopefully, once and for all, banish the word, patience. we could support everton for 100 year’s and ’patience would still be banded about. ive had to much patience moysie has had 5 years we need players bought who will improve what we have, and jagelka before hibbert at right back is a start. me at right back before hibbert is a start...ps no jason roberts ffs
I have to admit Chris I have great difficulty sharing your patience. It may have escaped your attention but there isn’t actually anything stopping clubs making purchases outside of the transfer window, only that the official registrations cannot be transferred until then. Lets be honest, its not 8 days that have passed with no activity is it, it’s just shy of a month now, that’s a third of pre-season gone already. I submitted a piece what must be approaching a month ago now in which I was full of positivity about the ’imminent’ arrival of Phil Jagielka and the confirmation that Moyes had indeed finally ’learned his lesson’ and discovered some of the astuteness recquired to lead a big club like Everton. Right now I feel like taking that all back. I think Michaels comments in response to an earlier mailbag submission hit the nail on the head, it really is as if such was the concentration on european qualification that transfer targets have been overlooked. As one of the most crucial facets of a Premiership managers job nowadays that is absolutely criminal IMO. The knives are being sharpened again i’m afraid and, having seen it all before, this time I feel the masses will be more than ready to plunge them in if required. Get your finger out Moyes, NOW!!!
I love Toffeeweb but the headline does do my head in some what"fans are desperate for some transfer news".The bloody transfer window has only been open for a week we got two months till the new season starts. I am not the most patient person in the world but come on this is a bit much, if it was July 9th and we had not made any signings then fair enough we could get a bit restless but not yet. Moyes said before the season ended it was going to take longer than last year to get the players he wants, I am sure he has plans. I am sure they are working hard to keep Fernandes(wouldn't he have gone back by now if we didn't want him to stay?) and to me that would be our most important signing. Its more important we keep all the players we currently have, if we do that and just add Fernandes and one or 2 more I would be happy with that. quality rather then quantity is what is important.
Let's be honest, we'll be very lucky to repeat last season's sixth position without some very influential re-inforcements. Talk of Moyes making an impact in Europe or breaking into the TOP Four is total garbage ? and I suspect he knows it. As the club is organised at present, we are running on empty and the Spurs Blog said it all for me!
I don’t see what all the fuss is about, we have signed two people already albeit only teenagers. One of whom is Josh Lambo, USA youth international goalkeeper who is so desperate to play for us that he has badgered his father to obtain an EU passport so that he can apply for one himself to join the club with no work permit worries.
The other is Ireland under 17 striker Karl Sheppard from Shelbourne as was published on TW the other day.
My main concern is if Arteta sustains an injury. Who’ll step up and take the reins in his absence? Osman? Tidy player, but technically limited..and lacking pace. Fernandes is a must for me, even if it’s a season long loan.
I do believe that we will make a couple "surprise" signings over the summer, albeit later. I expect to see our man Manny back next year. Some pace & delivery for down the left would be a big plus too. Jag’s is a prudent move, although I expect him to slot in at RB at Hibberts expense.
We’re on the right track. 5-6 new arrivals and we’ll be top 6 again next season. Oh, and we will lift the UEFA cup too!!
In Moyes we trust..
Seems to me there are ’certain’ types of fan who will whinge about anything and everything, if they cant find something to whinge about they’ll invent something,or extrapolate a recent fault to the nth degree and claim it to be the clubs raison d’etre, some prime axamples above.
Patience IS the word.
No-ones talking years or decades FFS, just wait a couple of weeks before you ’go off on one’.
oh and another word to learn.....faith.
We have been here before like Lyndon said earlier. I have little patience and even less faith with Moyes and Kenwright. We are in a precarious situation where no or lack of inward transfers may see us bottom eight material and fail miserably in Europe. And it is obvious that Moyes is after versatile players, as he knows there isn’t much money to spend. I am furious, and further so I have to agree that Tottenham, and even Villa are bigger than us right now. Disgrace!
Its still early to press the panic button, its clear that last year we gambled and spend some of the money for this year and now we are short.
I cant blame Moyes for looking for versatile players, Neville and Lescott proved to be very useful all over the place in times when we were struck by injuries and suspensions.
I am more concerned that once again we would be unable to build on a good season due to the lack of finances, which for me this time will be inexcusable.
On the other hand for the people who thinks that Tottenham and Villa are bigger and better than us and that the Spurs Blog said it all - you just maybe on the wrong place. This is Everton website, if you want to sing praises about the clubs mentioned above you can find an appropriate place to do it.
