Caps, injuries and tap ups.

To James Vaughan, on the bench.
Sorry, James. If you really want those England caps, please wait. Go there on your own terms, as the player who simply demands his place. You will become that at EFC. The FA circus is more likely to send you home injured and tapped up by some overpriced player who will promise you a mansion in Cheshire.
We grew up proud to have our internationals - we were outraged that Joe Royle didn't get those caps, it was seen as recognition in those days, maybe it still is. But that's the problem - who recognises talent, merit, all that stuff? Some Daily Mail journalist?
So James, sit on the bench. Look and learn. Knock ten or 15 in next season and they'll come begging. But if you have a calf strain, and they say, you'll be OK, don't believe them. They don't care about your career, just today's result.
And if you want a mansion in Cheshire, you're well on your way to it anyway.

I admit it would seem that at all levels of the England team it depends on who your agent is and which club you play for rather than how talented you are. Nugent or Lescott for England? I realise they play in different positions, but one has barely put a foot wrong in the Premiership whilst the other has never kicked a ball in earnest in the top flight. Who gets capped, you guessed it the one who needs his profile raising to inflate his transfer fee. International football has a lot to answer for , with the likes of Blatter et al being as bad as some of those that run the I.O.C. All they have managed to do is spoil the competitive element and ensure that mugs like me spend more dosh watching. In 98/99 my season ticket cost £240 now I’ve just paid £524 for the same seat. It’s no wonder I coulnd’t give a monkey’s if no Everton player appeared for England ever again.
And it's why we should be glad we've got a manager who can see through all the hype and bullshit and see the true value of a player based on his actual ability. God bless Davie Moyes.
Englands national team has for at least 40 years been grossly overated. Compared to Brazil our 66 World Cup winning squad was workmanlike, certainly not brilliant. In recent years we have produced very few players of genuine world class. Rooney is one of the few yet the national team coaches are slowly but surely eliminating his precocious skills.
The buzz word is workrate not talent.
