Liverpudlians dominate?

Comments (6)

I read the other day that 20% of all professional footballers who are English were born in Liverpool. If that is correct, that is an amazing total and also one that should benefit Everton in the future as we, along with Liverpool, will surely get the best pick of young players.

Has anyone else heard of this or can back this statement up? Does it include all leagues in the UK? If so, that would mean the League of Wales which is dominated by Liverpool-based players and would surely improve that 20% stat. Or is it just the 4 English leagues?

Sounds b*llocks if you ask me. ALL english professional footballers???? - In fact even reading it again it sounds even more unlikely.

Maybe all english professional footballers plying their trade in the north west

Liverpool does produce alot of footballing talent. It always has and hopefully always will. Build up from the grass roots!

Although I think 20% could well be a made up figure, I do agree that Merseyside has produced some of the highest grade of footballers compared with other major UK cities over the past 20 years. Unfortunately the red shite have secured the lion’s share of them through their scouting (mostley everton supporters as we all know) whilst we’ve released an enormous amount of talent to other clubs only to see the value increase dramatically. Examples being Barton, Jagielka. Even the ones that made the grade at goodison we sold on before they were in their early 20’s ie jeffers, jevons, ball, dunne, and gob shite. With all that wealth of talent (and free) it makes you wonder why we aren’t the force that we should be. When United generated that young crop 15 years ago, they picked up the ball and ran with it. We have another chance with Vaughn and Anichabie. Lets hope we don’t piss it away again.

Sorry Andy, released an "enormous amount of talent". Barton/Jagielka were released as the U15 side was disbanded almost 10 years ago for financial decisions so don’t agree on that one.

Where are the rest of these so-called talents we let go? Ryan Valentine partnering Maldini? Schumacher replacing Beckham at Real?

Get a grip lad, apart from when the age group was dropped, i can’t think of 1 we’ve released that has gone on to bigger/better things and made us look foolish.

Dont be so bleedin’ soft! Taking an average squad of 24 over 92 league clubs would mean 441 pro’s being born in Liverpool.
