Confirmed Transfers

Just to try and get some perspective back into the debate on signing players this summer I thought I would attach this link http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_prem/6733191.stm
This is a list of all the confirmed (rather than rumoured) transfers so far this summer. Reading through this list I would suggest that the only teams better off when you take into consideration those who have left and those they have signed are Chelsea, Man Utd, Portsmouth, and possibly Middlesbrough.
It would be easy to speculate on the rumours but in my opinion completely pointless as they are just that, rumours. If we were to stick within these parameters what does everyone else think of the transfers so far?
To me it's this:
- Arsenal, got rid of some fringe players who are not going to get a game regularly.
- Villa, See Arsenal.
- Birmingham, 3 players in, none of them highly rated.
- Blackburn, no changes.
- Bolton, too many in and out, year of transition. May well struggle.
- Chelsea, improved.
- Derby, see Arsenal.
- Everton, see Arsenal.
- Fulham, see Arsenal.
- Liverpool, can't comment as I can't even pronounce the names, no idea who they are and frankly don't care. Liverpool are crap, end of.
- City, see Arsenal.
- United, one signing but has improved the squad.
- Middlesbrough, Seemingly improved.
- Newcastle, like for like in midfield, an older striker added, will Barton improve or implode the squad?
- Portsmouth, improved.
- Reading, will miss Sidwell a lot.
- Sunderland, hard to tell, looks on paper to have remained the same.
- Spurs, £5 million down on a 17-year-old with up to £5 million to follow!!
- West Ham, lots of rumours but ignoring these they have added Parker for silly wages.
- Wigan, too many changes involving average (at best) players.

I can’t be bothered going on but all the way through your assesment is both biased towards proving your point and very naive IMO. Calling Mark Viduka ’an old striker’ for example. I could just as easilly, and accurately, call him one of the best technical strikers in the Premiership, a player of world class ability. Likewise Scott Parker to West Ham, a tremendous player and an excellent signing. Instead you make a pointless comment about his wages.
I think people need to get real and realise that the vast majority of clubs will be making numerous additions in the coming weeks, may of which have been long touted, meanwhile Everton and David Moyes will continue to sit on their hands and get left behind. AGAIN!!
This Jagielka deal reminds me of the Sean Davis saga, spending months waiting on one player. Are we unable to work on more than one deal at a time or what??
I remain hopeful of being pleasantly surprised but with each passing day and each link to absolute tripe like Phil Bardsley and Kieran Richardson I am giving up any real expectation of us doing what is really required.
David, the whole point of the post was actual transfers not speculation and rumours, therefore including speculation and rumours on Jagielka, Bardsley, Richardson etc is completely off the point. Even more off the point is "many other clubs are actively known to be working on major transfers. Spurs for example should shortly announce the signings of Darren Bent and Younes Kaboul for an estimated £23m." Rumours and speculation, not actual transfers.
You quite rightly point to the actual transfers of Viduka, Parker, and Bale. My assessment of these three (in my opinion) still stands. Viduka is an old striker who would add nothing to our squad. I would much prefer to see Vaughan and Anichebe given more opportunities than signing Viduka and making them sit on the bench. Parker is, in my opinion, not worth 70,000 pounds a week. If he was signed then how much more money would we need to give to Arteta, Yobo, Lescott, Cahill, Johnson et al who are all better than Parker and therefore worth more? Finallly Bale is not Rooney, he hasn’t played in the premiership or for England (as Rooney had) and at a cost of 5 million with another 5 million to follow is just far too much of a rahter small transfer budget. Can you imagine the uproar here if Moyes had spent most (or all) of our money on him?

But I agree with your point on the whole though, I reckon when Moyes gets back from his jollies we’l start to see some movement on the transfer front, I’d be happy to see Jagyelka, (cant spell) Baines or another left back, a decent winger and centre mid grafter in the mould of Nolan or hopefully Fernandes for another season.
Come on Moyesy lad!!!
