What guarantee
Comments (23)
Some of the postings and replies littering the mailbox of late have me shaking my head. Will someone please tell me what aspect of the ground move will guarantee us success?
Having all the money in the world will not guarantee success without a solid foundation at the football club (See Newcastle).
Some of you seem to be missing the point, that winning football matches guarantees sucess. Not having a new stadium with the PROMISE of untold riches.
How many times have we been led up the garden path, yet some of you, lads, seem eager to swallow every line of spin and lies that come out of the club.
I say spin and lies because we have been guaranteed nothing, and a new stadium with all its PROMISED benefits will not guarantee us success, it never will and never has.
Derby, Sunderland, Coventry, Boro, Bolton. etc etc. have all got nice shiny stadiums and they are hardly setting the football world alight. And before we get the. 'Yes but we are Everton! One of the biggest and historical clubs in the country'. Forget it, Money rules. and footballers are mercenary bastards. But a new ground Promises these things.
Promises, promises. I want GUARANTEES! Before I sell the soul of my club.

Sadly, nothing is guaranteed. If it were, the vote would be a much easier decision!
’Before I sell the soul of my club’!! Could you BE any more melodramatic? The club has moved grounds before and will do so again. The players and the fans are what create the ’soul’ of any ground and, in time, new memories will be created at a new stadium and that will become home. Goodsion park is all that any of us have known as ’home’. That doesn’t mean that we have to be so small minded as to think that all we know is the only way it can be though, does it? I think you need to grow up a little Dave, with your mentality I mean. All this melodramatic sentimentalist claptrap I keep reading from people, it wreaks of ’if I can’t bat i’m taking my stumps home’.

Well done Dave nice piece, sums it up for quite a lot of us.
Mr Jones sir, are you the designer of the Tescodome or something, or do you have first dibs on Goodison Park? You seem to be very pro Tescodome before we’ve even found out anything about it.
Information, information, information. Everton lack it, whether it be stadiums, transfers or financial dealings, we plebs find out nothing.
But then why would we, we’re only the people who fork out all our hard earned wages.
Some really good points there Dave. New stadium does not equal footballing sucess, totally agree and there’s too many questions still unanswered for my liking in regards to the Kirby move. Like many of us I just want what’s best for the club, if that’s moving to Kirby then I’ll support it, if it’s staying in GP then I’ll support that. The main problem is that’s there is too much rubbish coming from the Echo and the KEIOC in general at the minute.
In my mind the KEIOC are on par with Everton in regards to the spin and propaganda comments you make above. They both as bad as eachother and yesturdays scaremongering tackics by the KEIOC demonstrates this.
The truth of the situation will come out soon, when the information is put infront of us then we can all make an informed decsion on what is best for the club. What gets me is some poeple have already made there mind up on the suject, that’s not helping anyone, let’s keep an open mind as best we can for the future of our club.

I agree with David Jones on this one. Fans and memories make the ground a home, no more than family and memories make my own house a home. Old Trafford means nothing to Evertonians because it hasn’t been our ground, our home. White Hart Lane means nothing to Evertonians because it hasn’t been our ground, our home. A new stadium that we move to will be ours. It will be the ground of Everton F.C, our club, our team.It is up to us to make that ground mean something, the same as we did with Goodison. To make it a home!!!
I would rather stay at Goodison and see it redeveloped. That doesn’t seem possible right now. The next best thing is a new ground. I might not like it but if it happens I will live with it and make the most.

Kieran,
I will support whatever is right for the club, once I receive the right info to make an informed decision. But financially, where is this going to take us, with the squad we have at the moment we are down to bare bones, if we go ahead with the new ground can we afford new players, which we desperately need, surely we need the quality players and the quality team before we get the quality ground, it’s a bit cart before the horse don’t you think?
The article isn’t talking about ’memories’ and a sense of ’home’. The main thrust was that new stadiums don’t guarantee success or an increase in turnover that will bring it.

Hit the nail on the head there Pete.
I think if we move in the next few years, with the size of squad that we have and the financial restrictions we are bound to be placed under once the ground is in place then we are knackered.
Kieran you say "a new stadium we move to will be ours".I presume you are refering to Kirkby? Will it be ours,or will it be owned by Tesco? The problem is that we don’t know. And,the club don’t help by keeping us in the dark. And before anyone says it,I know they don’t have to tell us fuck all.

Brian, of course they have to tell us, we have a right, we pay all the cash out at the end of the day and earn a damn site less than these footballers.
Surely we have a right to information?
Mr Jones. where in the article does it say that i’m against the Kirkby move? Maybe you should read it again properly like Steve and Pete have.
Moving to a new stadium is a massive step and must be done properly.Keeping the fans informed and being honest about the logistics is the only way forward, little of which we have witnessed to date.
If all the promises fall through and it ends tits up lets see who will be the most melodramatic out of the two of us.
All i want is open honesty from the club.
If that’s being small minded and people like you get your’e way then god help us.
Remember the Kings Dock fiasco? i do, remember the vision and promises? i do.
That is what i don’t want repeated, but that’s being small minded.
I would like to ask David Jones, who apparently just can’t wait to press on the plunger on the explosives to bring Goodison down, what will the stadium look like? how easy will it be to get there? what studies have been done about the erosion of our fan base over the next 10-20 years? Why is it necessary to cut our ties to the city of Liverpool? How much will season tickets cost? How much of our investment will draw funds away from buying players? How much debt will we have after the stadium is built? Will we own the stadium? No-one knows. These are not sentimental melodramatic questions. If he doesn’t know the answer to these and other questions how can he be so in favour of the new stadium that he is prepared to ridicule the rest of us who aren’t. Incidentally, the last time we moved stadiums, we helped create Liverpool FC. This time, we are leaving the whole of Liverpool to them as a monopoly. Some recomendation.
Steve,I couldn’t agree with you more.I think we do have a right to know whats going on.But, as usual, the club treat us like we don’t exist. If it wasn’t for us the FANS! paying out good money season after season the club would not exist.I’m not asking for much, just a snippet from the club.
No information and only some of us able to vote anyway. It all seems wrong to me. And Alan Young’s point about what happened the last time we moved only serves to remind us of what can go wrong in the end. I don’t trust BK and I don’t know if we should move. Unless we get proper answers, the old adage of ’Don’t know = No’ should apply to anybody fortunate enough to be allowed to vote!
Don’t link anything on this site to what the "Enemy" say, this aint about them, it’s about what’s best for our club, let them say what they want, I ain’t been listening in the last 23 years and am sure not going to start now!
Just giving their perspective. You know, the people who share our city, the ones who seem to think that they can only benefit from this relocation. They hardly seem to be dreading the prospect of having the whole place to themselves. Why’s that do you think? Unfortunately, I’ve had to withstand their gloating for a lot longer than 23 years..... don’t think they’re far off the mark with this one though regardless of our opinion of them generally.
Tom,I clicked onto that link you provided, just out of curiousity,to see what the red -shite were saying. And one quote said it all for me.It went "I’m just glad they fucked the kings dock stadium up.This would have gave them a new lease of life"It just made me wonder were we would have been today,if shithouse Bill never fucked it up for us.
Brian and Tom, or should I say laurel and Hardy, who do you think you are kidding? This is typical of Eileens point that you will KEIOC ’any way you can’. If the RS were ridiculing Andy Johnson, you’d take no notice. If we redevloped Goodsion and they ridiculed that, you’d take no notice. You are only taking noticd and making an issue of it because it suits your argument this time. Seriously lads, do you think everyone is stupid or what? I bet if this were another argument, about fan base, you’d be calling them all ’wools’ and ’Norwegians’ yet on this day, because it suits you, they are ’the people who share our city’. Again I stress that i’m undecided but to me this is a further example that you people will say or do absolutely anything to convince people Kirkby is wrong. Maybe it will be wrong but until I see the plans I don’t know. I am not waging an incessant camapign to have everyone share my view though by using tricks even a 5 year old would see through..’loook Johnny, look what the reds are saying, you don’t want that, do you?? Do you??’. Clever stuff. Nip to the paper shop for me will you mate, go on...’i’ll time you’!!
Dave Jones, Seriously mate. I think the childish one here is you. It?s you that is calling people silly school yard names for having an opinion different from yours. Read the posts properly and try to be a bit more grown up in your replies.
Believe me mate my mentality is fine, in that i want what?s best for the club. I will state again in case you have trouble with grown up debate.I want what?s best for the club, but i don?t want it a cost that may, in the long run be detrimental to the club. I just want to be informed. Now go back to your comics.
A new stadium creates more revenue from other sources other than the football; concerts, hospitality and other events etc. Therefore we will be able to buy better players and not have to scrape around for the same old shite every season. Seems simple to me like.... However yes I agree, we still need a manager in place to buy said players - that goes without saying as well. Too many people want to dismiss the idea of moving simply becuase of what the Red Shite will say - WHO GIVES A FUCK ABOUT THAT LOT...????
COYB...
From the artistic impressions I have seen so far the stadium doesn’t scream out pop concerts or major events, it at most would be a business meetings/training venue and in line with a developed zone, what the hell would you want to stay at a hotel in Kirkby for, to go and visit what exactly, to go and see what exactly?
With, as many keep reminding us, Liverpool only a few miles down the road with the soon to be Capital of Culture badge, an historic waterfront and many tourist attractions why not just drive that extra few miles and stay there? For every pro I have heard and seen posted there must be at least an equal if not greater list of cons, to me this just doesn’t add up and feels terribly wrong, the owners of clubs are businessmen concerned with one thing and only one thing; the balance books no matter what spin on "being one of us" they give.
The supporters and fans of clubs are intrinsically lead by their heart; they want their stories and memories to pass generation to generation, father to son and daughter and as such it’s the heart that leads them not empty promises. The pro move brigade may disagree but it’s my view and I’m sticking with it.
David,in your post you say "that we will KEIOC anyway you can".But,in my piece I don’t mention anything about moving to kirkby. All I can say is If we were treated with a bit of respect, and told what was going on instead of being kept in the dark, there would not be as much negativity about. Also,as I said it was out of curiousity to hear what the red-shite were saying,as I don’t live in the city anymore. And I picked up on the kings dock, because if Kenwright never fucked it up,we wouldn’t be having this discussion, would we?And Tom,"Thats another fine mess you got me into!"
