Shilly-shally Davey

What is it about Moyes that makes him go for lower-league players only when they have made an initial move at a knock-down price and then done enough to see them valued at three or four times the amount? He and Irvine `had season tickets` at clubs whilst watching the likes of Koumas and Nugent but shilly-shallied whilst their value escalated. The same goes with Ashton where Crewe got fed up with waiting for the Everton bid to come in.

I reckon all three of these could have been ours for a total £5M less than two years ago, now they would cost three times that amount!

When you take into account the salaries that would have been paid to these players over the last 2-3 seasons then there will not actually be much difference between paying £2 million 3 seasons ago and £5 million now.

The total outlay per player would be near enough the same and we get a player now judged ready for our first team.

Leave it to Davey, he knows what he is doing.

Surely the best example of this is one Darren Bent. Recommended to us when Joe Royle was at Ipswich at the pricely sum of £3m - Sold today for £16.5m

Whether he’s worth that is another matter but thats where the market is at the moment.
