Tired of VDM

Comments (11)

It appears that, yet again, Van Der Meyde has failed to keep his mouth shut and just get on with the job. I surely can't be the only one who thinks enough is enough. I wrote a few months back, after he accused Moyes of lying, saying that he should be more gracious given the support he's received in the face of overwhelming nothingness.

The fact is the guy has failed to get both his body and his mind in the right place at Everton. The injuries may not be his fault but my faith in his willingness to work himself to fitness has waned considerably. That's not only brought on by the rumours of alcoholism, the persistent whining to the media and hankering for moves abroad, but also by the increasing evidence of his performances on the pitch.

At one point we were seeing cameos where he looked like a player who, with a few more games, would be a major threat in our attack. Increasingly though, those cameos have become just that, a consistent range of cameos never looking any more likely to be able to translate into match-long performances repeated across several games. Each appearance that went by without him making any major impact appeared to show a decreasing likelihood that he would ever make that impact.

More concerningly, in between times, reports of his performances in the reserves have been literally unremarkable. Those who write the reviews for the OS have been unmoved to comment on his performance, hardly stirring a belief that he's busting a gut to get into the first team. I think I'm right in saying his only significant contribution in reserves or first team was one, admittedly impressive cross for a goal, during 2005-06. Hardly fitting repayment.

We all wanted the best from VDM and gave him every encouragement to show it but a point had to come when we accept he's simply not going to deliver and frankly doesn't seem to have the stomach to. Time to sell.

VDM stating he may need to move in order to gain regular football is not spouting off... especially when it’s to a Dutch paper.
Dom King will tabloid it up to mean some black or something white. But what ever he has to say I don’t care.
I for one look forward to VDM playing in blue this coming season and I’d say to you John that if this poor newspaper article underlines and exasperates your view on the VDM situation then you need to step back and consider how you process supposed information given to you by newspapers... they’d prefer you not to, but most of us would.

What makes me laugh is that he thinks there is a load of clubs lining up to take him on.
He has never in his prefessional career played 6 games in a row (90 mins)FACT.Plus i am lead to beleive he earns over £30k a week.
When he does play you can see his ability but his whole attitude stinks.I will be glad to see the back of him.

Nick, I agree that it’s hardly the most outrageous statement a player’s ever made but it’s one we’ve heard from VDM before and the general impression given is that he’s having a sulk because he’s not in the first team rather than training hard and impressing when given the chance. I’d love to see him succeed but I honestly thing enough is enough. He’s not producing on the pitch and if he can’t even show some professionalism he shouldn’t be at the club.

It also speaks volumes for the impact that he has made when one of our main signing priorities is a winger. A position he should have made his own.

Surely there must a Dutch blue brother or sister that can shed some light on this story and tell us what was said? I don’t trust the press to give us a straight story either way but at least if we get someone who has read or seen the article we have a closer idea than hearsay.

Jon,

One line from VDM quoted from a 2nd hand source and manipulated is not to me giving an ’impression’ and there fore has no link to any ’professionalism’ being shown, positive or not.
Hopefully he’s getting his arse in shape... though as I look forward to him playing in Blue this coming season, I wouldn’t gamble against him not delivering as you’ve said.

In my opinion AvDM has the ability to perform you can see it when he DOES play but certain factors are piling up against him this quote being the latest. I spoke to him in Curry’s Bromborough (of all places) and he assured me he was committed to staying at Everton. Whether he does or not remains to be see.

Well, Gavin, am I Dutch enough for you? I work and live in Holland ;)

A few posts down I submitted to the mailbag already that I found the article on several Dutch sites. He DIDN’T say he wants to leave Everton. He actually said he wants to stay in England (errr... yes, England, he didn’t explicitly say Everton, so this could be a sign, but the reporter apparently asked him if he wished to leave England). Only thing he said was that he wants more playing time.

Now once again I don’t Fancy VdM too much but he DID NOT say he needed to leave or anything in that region.

VdM isnt suited to everton, he actually has some skill on the ball... if he was more like Carsley [no skills whatsoever] I'm sure Moyes would love him.

I hate Moyes, his face defines misery.

Greg, I’m sure if VDM ever actually showed that skill he would get a game. By showing it I mean more than one touch per game. Of course being able to run for more than 50 minutes without having to drop back to a second full-back would also be useful. Maybe if Moyes smiled all the time like McLaren he’d be a better manager. Since when did Carsley play on the wing? In case you hadn’t noticed the players keeping VDM out of the team are Arteta and Osman both of whom are skilful players (even if only one of them is good enough).

Sorry Nick but whether the current quote is right or not the drinking on nights he shouldn’t have been out never mind drinking, the calling Moyes a liar in the press and the general failure to perform when given the opportunity gives me an impression of a poor professional.

I would love to see him produce the goods but I’ve lost faith in it ever happening. Just like Beattie something seems to have gone from him and the time has come to cut our losses.

A good friend of mine, also a massive Blue, stood outside the Spellows at the start of last season and waxed lyrical about van der meyde and what he offers to our team. I explained to him that by the time he left Everton VdM would have proved to be a poor signing. Surely that time has now come. We can’t afford to accomodate clowns anymore. We didn’t sign Barton because of his inflated wages and his off-field antics.

VdM has unreal ability, but is quite clearly a bit of a head the ball. Despite flashes of genius (correct me if I’m wrong but he ran West Ham full backs ragged in the first half at Goodison last seaon), he hasn’t and doesn’t do enough to justify the wages he earns. His poor professionalism, drunken antics and "spiking" have been swept under the carpet by a majority of fans who consider him to be a bit of a "Jack the Lad".

Enough is enough. I only wish Coleman was still at Fulham, because he appears to buy every bit of shite that we’ve ever owned!! VdM to Sociedad for £5m, watch this space.
