Confused

I've tried and tried to resist getting involved in the transfer/lack of transfer activity saga, but there's something that keeps bugging me that I wondered if anyone else is confused about?
Why should the signing (or not) of Jagielka prevent the club from doing any other business?
I've gone from the sublime: Moyesy has a master plan of which Jagielka is a fundamental necessity before the other five or six signings are made... to the ridiculous: We're that hard up that Jagielka's a must, as he can fulfil a number of roles within the team/squad, and beyond him there may not BE any other business...
I'm trying like mad to remain optimistic, I really am. And I hope in the coming couple of weeks there's a frenzy of transfer activity with our beloved Blues bagging a number of excellent additions to the club.... but I just can't work out why the signing of Jagielka seems to be the required catalyst????

Trust me Brian, there’s a set date that Jags will sign and we are talking not too many days away. The deal was done before the end of May and was not stopping other signings being made. A further 2 permanent signings will be announced after Jags signs on, but these deals began life just on 2 weeks ago and have been finalised within the last few days. (clue:-the other 2 names are on the latest forum threads) There is also a very good chance that Manny will be back with us on loan, but that deal will not be concluded straight away.....

Jeebus... I hope you don’t mean Richardson and Koumas, Bluey!
Can?t help think that if we sign Jagielka that he?ll paraded as FOUR new signings: fullback, centre-half, midfielder & ?keeper.
Bluey, if you?re our ?Mystic Meg? can you tell me what the lottery numbers will be tonight? And also if Beattie will score next season in open play?
Now that Doddy has transmogrified into Bluey, I guess we can take it as read that the Jag signing next week will open the floodgates of tranfer activity. Perhaps we can now put all this speculation, gloom and doom behind us ? please!
My uncle works at Bellfield and he says Kieran Richardson and Wes Brown will join Everton in the next week or so. He says that Richardson wants to join and it is just a case of dotting the "I"s and crossing the "T"s, the Brown deal is a little more complicated with Villa and Pompey sniffing around...
I've heard the Brown story as well, think he?s a good player, would deffo give us options at the back, Stubbs can't go on forever. Not sure about Richardson, is he any better than Osman??? I've heard Irvine was out in Italy scouting the Italian U-21 midfield player Roberto Kipperino from Genoa.
There is one thing that stands out for me about the transfer targets mentioned, none of them have got any real quality.
I know some will say Wes Brown is quality, if that's the case, why would ZUtd let him go?Also, he is not the same player he was before he had that bad injury. And Richardson, for fuck's sake he?s shite! As someone mentioned, he?s no better than Osman... To tell you the truth, Osman is acctually a better player.
What do we mean when we talk about having "quality" - Ronaldinho? Deco?
Did we consider Arteta as "quality" when he first signed from Rangers? What about Lescott when we heard he signed.
The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Let's judge new signings AFTER they?ve put on the shirt.
Richardson is fuckin shite. How I'm fed up of getting Utd cast-offs (Howard aside). There are deffo better players put there than him, no doubt utd will want at least £4M for him as well. Better players please, Moyes!!
You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. Richardson has always been a poor player.
Ted you refer to us getting Utd’s cast offs, if you look a little harder and think about it for a minute we’ve had 2 in the recent past, Neville and Howard - both good signings.
Agreed on the Richardson comments though, he is pants.
Mike, what do I mean when I say quality? It's a player who will come into the team and take us forward and make a big difference to how we perform, and the players mentioned on here in my opinion won?t do that. We never really heard much of Arteta before he signed, so we didn?t know what to expect. And Lescott was always being touted as a future England player when he was at Wolves and was always getting rave reviews, and people talked of his quality. And I can honestly say I have seen enough of Richardson, Jags and Koumas to see that they are not going to bring the quality to the team we need.
I completely disagree with peoples comments about Richardson. He seriously is not a bad player. He is obviously not good enough for Man utd but who in our squad actually is. Arteta and Lescott would have a chance but other than that none whatsoever. He has pace and is left footed and this is exactly what we are looking for. He can play left wing, Left back and centre mid which means he is versatile. Saying Osman is better is abosalutly wrong. Although I dont mind Osman I think Richardson is a much better player. Physically stronger, pacy and a excellent left foot. As for Jagielka I hope he comes as soon as possible because I want to see us getting players early for preseason to keep that team b onding and spirit. He is a decent player and is versatile.
Brian, I can?t say that the names in the ring this season have got me jumping up and down on the sofa with excitement either. But I can definitely see the point of Jagielka signing. The "not good enough for Man U argument" doesnt really hold for me, although I've not seen much of Richardson. Koumas, from what I remember, did OK at times in a struggling team when West Brom were in the Prem.
My point was really that some of our best players ? now and throughout our history ? were underwhelming transfer announcements when first signed. Now of course, some of our worst signings have also been underwhelming transfers.
You?re entitled to your opinion. And you seem to know the players more closely than me. But transfers are always going to be gambles. I guess if they do sign (and Mystic Bluey before seemed confident), we can only hope you?re proved wrong.
Being a Welsh boy, I have seen Koumas a few times and I think he would be a great buy for us. £4m max though.
Smith would be a great signing too, great finisher, battler and passer of the ball, certainly a versatile player which would suit us greatly.
Jags too would be good. I think that will be done next week.
We need a left back badly so anyone know of someone who could come in?
Mike not sure where you pulled the we got Arteta from Rangers from, he left Rangers years ago and as far as no-one knowing about him before we signed him, I watched him years ago for Rangers and he was very good but also very young, he got injured and dropped down the pecking order, then got homesick and was shipped back to Spain.
I think the links to Man U cast-offs ring of remaining Shrek payments and maybe more "gentlemen?s agreements" from us bending over to get it up the pipe and handing Man U the title last season... after all, how much did that earn them? I wouldn?t rate Richardson beyond squad player from what I?ve seen of him and Wes Brown looks average with the odd catastrophic backpass in him.
If youre talking about the need for laft footed players I would say Bouazza from Watford would be a better buy than the arrogant Richardson ? cheaper as well.
Agreed Man U can keep Richardson and Brown, not the type of players we need right now. Koumas would be a good addition at around £4M. We?ll just have to wait and see...
Players play differently in different teams. And, after a while, with different coaching staffs. That, hopefully is what we pay them ? the coaches ? for. Remember the good old days, no, not Kendall and Harvey, but Walter and God only knows what was happening at Bellfield? We seemed to lose more players due to friendly fire than enemy action.
DM & Co work with players and improve them, in the context of a team set-up, which is why there is only one expert in this discussion: DM himself. And he, very wisely, is saying nothing.
And to take issue with the MUFFER above, there are very few of our first-choice players who wouldn?t play well for the muffs, or chelski or any of them. A good player put into a struggling team struggles himself. It's the company you keep that determines how you can play.
Yes, there have always been match winners. Puskas had the ball at his feet for 8 seconds when he ?destroyed? England ? the other 9 players running around to make this possible might also have been quite important. I?d take 11 Colin Harveys any day ? they would all be able to pass, move, and control a ball, and know what they were doing for 90 minutes. Hard to beat.
I suppose it was bound to happen but the point I was making sort of got lost in the melee after two or three comments *L*..If anybody fancies reading the original again and commenting on THAT I?d be more than grateful *L*
Brian, to reply maybe Jags is the "best" we can hope for, anything beyond this would be bargain bucket shite or re-signing of tat and hey presto "it?s like having x number of new players". Yes it's pessimistic but with Billy Liar in charge I have no faith in this bullshitters ability to take the club anywhere but to Kirkby and down.
