I've just read on the notoriously ill-informed talksport website that Moyes is allegedly weighing up an option to swap Kranjcar for Pienaar in January.
I love Pienaar and my preferred outcome would be for him to sign a new contract and end his career here (or at least give us a good bargaining position in the summer). However, if we got Kranjcar in return, I'd see this as good business rather than lose him for nothing at the end of the season. I've always rated him and was disappointed when we didn't make a bid for him prior to his move from Pompey. He's got proven Premier League experience and is versatile.

Actually it looks like we did make an offer for him last summer but he chose Tottenham. Hopefully he'll see he chose the wrong club and push for a move here.
I would like to see this happen! Kranjcar is a quality player. I probably don't rate him as highly as Steven but he has a better goal ratio in the Premier League! Well, I'm pretty sure he has anyway...
Am I naive or just stupid but with Pienaars contract running out and it likely that he leaves us on a free should we not agree to his terms and then sell him in the summer? We must be better off even taking into consideration his extra payments between whenever he signs and when we sell or swap him?
First choice would be Pienaar to sign.

Could Spurs be our new feeder club? now that Man Utd can't afford any more players so don't have any to off load.
Think about it, Harry has been sniffing around Pienaar for a while, we are by common thread, short/lacking in the attacking department .
Spurs have a nice problem with four strikers, Defoe, Pav, Crouch and Keane. Easy to rotate in a long season when applying a 4-4-2. However Van Der Vaart has given Harry the Everton gene. It's 4-5-1 with V.D.V occupying the Cahill role and looking a superb signing.
So one striker plays leaving 3 others not too happy.
What happens next?
Would we take one of those and Kranjcar for Pienaar plus cash maybe?
Keeps our balance in midfield and increases our striking option.
Seal the deal in January with Donavon and no need to tinker in the summer unless they offer Huddlestone and Dawson for Rodwell.

If Pienaar wants to go,fine, but the last thing we need is a well-travelled mercenary such as Kranjcar.
Maybe Moyes should look to develop Gueye, Silva, Baxter or Wallace instead.

Looks good to me if true. Good player and probably not getting a lot of game time now at Spurs so probably reasonable chance of him leaving.
Since we're not likely to get much money for Pienaar now (if he doesn't want to re-sign), seems like a decent and fairly plausible option to me.

Kevin 8*, How is Kranjcar a well travelled mercenary, he's only played for 3 clubs in his whole career, 2 of them in England since leaving Croatia and one of them was Pompey, who was struggling financially so he did right to get out when he did but when he was there he gave them a good few years service, he didnt want out after the 1st year like some foreigners do?!.
I wouldnt mind this deal, Kranjcar as more time on his side and it would be like for like as they play in the same position but i think Kranjcar is a quality player with a lot of good traites to his game. He's creative, got a good shot on him and he gets his fair share of goals and is decent at set plays too so he would be an handy player to have IMO.

He's played for FOUR clubs, Aidy, and the reason I regard him as a mercenary is:
(1) He's been at Spurs five minutes and wants a transfer.
(2) He walked out on Zagreb to defect to Hadjuk Split of all clubs..

Didn't Krancjar choose spurs over us and then make some insulting remarks about our club?
Krancjar went to Spurs because they paid him more money, Pienaar wants to go because we wont pay him more money.
I rate Krancjar as a player but i doubt wether we would meet his wage demands.
As for the Pienaar saga- fuck it good player but little end result , Bily is the one Moyes needs to concentrate on as there is a hell of a player in there somewhere.

Krancjar is without a doubt a quality player, but yet again a centre mid that sometimes plays wide, rather than a genuine wide player with pace
Pienaar is quality and much better than Kranjcar. He's worth paying more but it could have very bad knock ons for the club. Other player's may have contracts that ups thier money to any one else's. Fact's are at the moment Everton can't afford to keep him, he can get more money by leaving and i don't blame him. I wouldn't leave Everton for the money but he's not a fan just a player.
Can't see it myself. Swap deals are from the 1970's ..players contracts now are unbelievably detailed with add-ons and fringe benefits.
My mistake Kevin, i thought he only played for Hadjuk Split in Croatia, but reading up about it, he left due to a disagreemant with the management team at Dinamo and thats why he left, he wasnt exactly making noises and sounding out a move to Hadjuk. But saying he's been at Spurs 5 mins and now wanting out is a bit harsh cos he hasnt exaclty asked to leave just yet, instead he's asked for a fair crack from Redknapp and some more game time and if he cant get that then there's no harm in wanting to try his luck else where is there.
To me if we did this deal it would be win win all round as Spurs would get a player they want, Pienaar would probs get the wages he was after at us and also champions league footy and we get a like for like replacement who knows the league and wouldnt need time to settle and would fit right in, and he's a good player too which is all good.

This is a completely moot point. Pienaar's value in January (given that clubs will be able to sign him for free in the summer) will be many orders of magnitude less than Krancjar's.
While I'd welcome Krancjar to the club, Harry Redknapp would be mad to swap him given the relative transfer values of the two players.

If you look at his wiki, it says abit about us wanting him when Arteta was out injured and that we also made a last ditch attempt to sign him last summer but missed out to Spurs and theres a little bit about why he chose Spurs but he doesnt exactly say bad things about us, he says were a big club but Spurs tradition and shit was a big pull and the fact Modric and Corluka was already there aswell was a big factor in him joining, not in those words but that was the jist of it.

Where the hell would Harry play Pienaar? Gareth Bale on the left, Lennon and Bently right, VDV attacking midfield, Modric centre, need I go on? All those mentioned are better than Pienaar in those positions. He'll be off abroad having signed a pre-contract with someone I reckon.

Why would Tottenham sell him? Especially to a rival for a European place (which we are surely still considered as in spite of our start?) They are also in the Champions League as well as having the FA Cup and Top 4 finish to play for. He is under contract for the foreseeable future. Can't see it myself.
It was Lasange Diarra that we were after from Portsmouth who said bad things about us when he moved, not Krancjar.
Jeff Magee (#4) It's not FM whereby you re-sign a player to then flog him. Reality is that if a player is sold without asking for a move, the selling club can be required to honour his contract or reach a settlement. So if Pienaar was to sign for, say, £60k/week basic, a 4-year deal, and we sold him on in the summer, we'd have to negotiate a settlement on a £12 million contract value.

I did like Jeff Magee's thinking though! I think Sharpie makes a good point on making a decision and getting it sorted though. I like Pienaar but wonder what is he actually asking for? If its to be on the same as Arteta, he's had one good season but hasn't earnt that position. Maybe they could agree a fee with the promise if he's player of the year again this season then he gets his money?

The funny thing is I bet Krancjar is on about £60k plus at Spurs so isnt he going to want that or more to come to Everton and therefore getting more than we offered Pienaar???
I'd say probably 80% squad at Spurs is on £60k plus... Therein lies the problem and the difference between the 2 clubs at the moment.. Pienaar is a much better player than Krancjar but we are now at a stage where we about to lose him for nothing!!!

Phillip@21 - totally agree with that. Spurs don't even have room in the midfield for Pienaar and will end up with the same situation they have with Kranjcar - ie a player who wants more game time which he isnt going to get.
Plus, as you say, where would they play him anyway!?

So spurs have a wage bill 10mil* greater than ours (as of 2009, soyes changeswill have hapened, but we have increased ours as have they, so its a decent inddication) Considerring they have considerably more players than usincluddng 4 top range strikers, then I would assume their wages are probably quite similar to ours, if 80% of their team was on 60k+ then their wage bill would beconsiderrably higher than it is.

Just a little snippet from 'Arry.... Sounds like he could be a "Moyes type" rather than the mercenary some have suggested - and if he loves playing on the left then he could be the square peg for the square hole we'll have when Pienaar leaves rather than Moyes finding a round one (Osman?!) from our current squad.
