I'm a Talksport listener and Collymore is an excellent pundit. For an Ex-red he always has a good word to say about the Blues.

Yesterday he said something he's said many times on the radio, he said it was "very strange that a club like Everton, who had spent more time in the top flight than anyone, can't get big money backers".

It something we all think is strange, Stan.

He is auctually the one pundit that will criticise the useless Kenwright.

Listening to TalkSport last night and a point was made about the sole use of a lone striker. The speaker made a interesting point, that teams that usually play with one striker are not setting up to win a game but so afraid to loose it.

Then he went to talk on about Everton and Liverpool to back up the point. They even went onto say that Moyes's hand is turned when we go down by a goal and he is almost forced to do something. Whilst agreeing that neither set of fans pretty much enjoys what is on offer.

He also made the point about playing players in their best position. Instead of playing a more talented footballer in the wrong position, play a less talented player there who is a actually suited to that position. It's a simple policy that leads to a more balanced team and a more cohesive unit. How many times does Moyes play players out of position? Anichebe on the right or left wing, Heitinga in midfield, Rodwell on the right, Fellaini up front, Jagielka in midfield. These awful selections were not injury dictated all the time.

Like Ste, comm 3, I find Stan Collymore a good pundit. For an ex-Red he talks sense when relating to matches concerning us.

The fact that we have a good record against City, in recent seasons, will just be in the supporters minds, and not the players, as we really need a result.

Let's hope that we show some real aggression, and whoever is playing up front, breaks this horrible drought in front of goal. And start giving the fans our Xmas prezzies early.

It?s an excellent point actually. I think back to the Newcastle at home game and they had a 5-man midfield the same as us. We both had Cahill/Nolan supporting the front man, where we had Heitinga a centre half in midfield they had 2 centre midfielders in Barton and Tiote. We had Osman and Pienaar out wide and they had 2 wingers Ben Arfa and Routledge who both had pace.

Now I wouldn?t say that Routledge is particularly talented but he is a winger and performs well there.

We dont have the squad depth of Arry. From Day 1, Moyes has been playing players out of their 'best position'. Didn't do Lescott any harm or Coleman for that matter.

Rodwell is apparently a centre half, we're covered for that position, Heitinga allegedly a right back in his Athletico Madrid time, actually listed as defender/defensive midfielder on Wiki. Fellaini would be the one to push up front in an emergency for obvious reasons, Jags was also a versatile play anywhere kind of player in his Sheffield Untied days. Moyes does like a versatile player.

And I'm right there with Aiden Doyle at (#2)... Watch what happens if they don't get 4th this year.

Whilst assessing all 20 Premier League teams at nearly the half way stage, Collymore made two points:

He's in the market for 2-3 loan signings in Jan, does he really deserve that for what he has done over the years. He should be getting between £10-15M to spend. Without saying it, you could tell he was having a dig at the Everton board.

Secondly he believes there will be a parting of ways either end of this season or next season where DM feels he has reached he can no longer take the club any forward.

He ended by saying a top ten finish is still on the cards for us this season.

KPR, Rodwell has always played in midfield for us so he isn't "apparently a centre half". Heitinga had an excellent run for us last year at centre half and reached the World Cup Final playing there. Jags was useless in midfield for both Sheffield Utd (who got relegated) and us whenever he's played there.

I still think Coleman would be better suited to playing right back where, similar to Baines, he can come from deep. Lescott is the exception as he played better at left back.

This utility player nonsense is exactly that. As a player, you find more consistency in your performances and gain more confidence from playing regularly in your best position.

As much as the entire Redknapp family irritate me (okay, maybe not Louise) you cannot knock the job 'Arry has done at Spurs. Yes he has had money from day one but that doesn't always bring success and I would give my left arm to see Everton giving Inter Milan a game home and away.

We consistently finished above Spurs over the past five or so seasons and the difference is they have pushed on, invested and bought well. Part of me would just love Kenright to walk in one morning after some 'Christmas Carol' type revelation the night before and start forging cheques left, right and centre.

The other part of me just accepts the inevitable slog that being an Evertonian has become!

Jon (1), He spent close to £10M on a player whom he has never played in his correct position in Bily. He also spent £15M on Fellaini and for a whole season played him out of his correct position, plus £6M on Heitinga who for most of his Everton appearances has played out of position.

Moyes and Redknapp are like chalk and cheese. I do grudgingly respect Redknapp and believe he is a good manager, but if he were in charge of Everton it would be a complete disaster ? as would be Wenger or Ancelotti or Pep Guardiola.

Moyes is beligerent, blinkered and overly-cautious to a ridiculous degree, sure, but he is undoubtedly the right sort of manager for a perenially skint team like ours.

Moyes has always reminded me of Brian Clough in many ways, nabbing unfashionable players on the cheap and refusing to see the wood for the trees a lot of the time. My point is there are positives and negatives to a fella like DM but I do think he is the right man for the job.

I really don't understand posters who state that we are skint and don't have the depth of squad. Moyes has had ten years to build a squad and, after all that time, we are still lacking in certain areas. The same areas that have been troubling us for seasons. Instead of buying a player for a certain position, he constantly buys square pegs for round holes.

Alan? Wiki and the odd pundit quoting 'he was regarded as having the potential to become a top centre back early in his professional career' ? knew I hadn't dreamt it.

Jags was tried in mid and right back in desperate times as was Heitinga (no Rodwell/Fellaini, Hibbert, Neville). Moyes probably left him in a bit too long but, since he has come back from the World Cup, he has been fluttering his lashes in a 'come and get me, anybody' way and playing shite so I reckon he's not worth the risk at centre half. Same with Coleman at right back. He's lucky not to have given two or three penalties away this season.

Baines, his defending is probably the weakest element of his game. A lot of the goals we have conceeded this season have come down that side.

You say utility, I say versatile ? We don't have strength in depth so versatility is the key.

Agree with Jimmy Hacking. I admire but don't like Harry Redknapp. I have never forgiven him for selling us Bilic and Williamson, that put us back a long way. I don't think he is a good tactical manager. You tend to think he is good in the transfer market but after what has been revealed about Portsmouth you have to wonder.

His teams do play attacking football so you have to also admire that. I can't see his way of operating working at a club like Everton. When you look at the paltry investment we have had, it's a miracle we're still in this league.

Most topics are shamelessly designed to wind people up so that they call in, wait 40 minutes on a premium rate line whilst the presenter, especially Alan Brazil, talks bollocks, then get cut off if the point is not to their liking! Last week, Adrian Durham commented that the fans of Man Utd, Liverpool and Newcastle all want their owners out whilst Everton, Spurs and Villa love their owners "with a passion"!

I stopped listening to TalkShite a while ago, because they just regurgitate shite. The worst one is Mike Parry who's 'one of our own' (FFS) but he's like the uncle from hell who you'd like to disown because he always embarrasses the fuck out of you wherever he goes. Collymore?s accent grates on me after about, oooo 3 seconds, plus he?s considereablee richer than yow.

But back to melted rubber face man; I think because Moyes has got to squeeze every £-worth of value from transfers he goes for players and he invariably goes for players that can play in a number of positions ? hence no specialist wide players: jack of all trades and all that.

When you have money to burn, you can get good players in all positions. What happened to the two Kyles he pinched from under our noses? One had a few games then disappeared.

As above with Bale, the lad was almost out of the door until he was put on the wing due to lack of numbers. Yeah and eye for talent that fella and don't start on the Van der Vaart transfer, stinks to high Heaven that one.... allegedly.

Redknapp's a prick; when he isn't taking clubs to the wall, he has his horrible face all over my telly. His treatment of Darren Bent was cowardly and disgraceful.

He inherited Modric, Lennon, Huddlestone, King, Dawson and Bale. He left Bale out for nearly a year, then stumbled on his real position through injuries ? ring any bells?

Ramos was never able to get his team on the pitch and Orrible Arry was able to step in and take the glory.

Can't argue with the fact that he plays his signings in their correct positions though. He signed a lighthouse and he plays him as a fucken lighthouse.

It's a lot easier to do that when the players that have come through that acadamy are Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, Pique (via Utd), Pedro, Bojan, Busquests, et al.
Rodwell, Coleman, Anichebe, Vaughan, Hibbert, Osman, Baxter, Wallace, Duffy don't quite compare ? although I believe most are decent players.

Danny 34# either way, Pep is in charge of one the best teams in Europe, expectation is super high and dropping a youth player into it is much more of a risk. Pep does it, he doesn't ask players to play out of position. I take your point that the quality of the players but that is more of a strategic things.

Which possibly highlights another tactical flaw. In the 8 years that Moyes is in charge he should have been able to force a footballing ethos onto the club in such that our youth system creates players to slot into the 1st team. Top managers like Wenger, Ferguson and Huiddink do it... Spending huge sums is not sustainable, youth systems will be more important in the coming years.

So let me get this straight: Stan Collymore said some cliche about Redknapp buying the "best player he can and playing him in his best position" and we get 40+ posts hailing the genius of Harry versus Moyes.

We then look at the facts and see that Moyes's teams almost always finish higher, spend less on wages and less on transfer fees.

We then look at Redknapp's transfer dealings for Spurs and see Robbie Keane for £12M, and 3 right backs (Walker, Naughton and Chimbonda) signed for a combined £12M none of whom ever play. Hardly a fautless operator....

Fellaini didn't look out of place playing up front last season and scored some goals. Arteta is more than competent on the right mid.

Bellamy is actually quite useful on the wings for listed striker.

It's playing players in their 'natural' position to keep them happy. Like their fat wages is not enough already.
