Everton agree fee with Tottenham for Pienaar

I have seen on Ceefax a headline that flashed up at 8:15 pm that Everton accept Spurs Pienaar bid. Ceefax states that Everton have agreed a fee with Tottenham and Pienaar faces a straight choice between Tottenham and Chelsea.

Jeez, blast from the past.
I don't think I have pressed that wee button on my remote control for at least 10 years.
But thank you for bringing a smile to my face.
Unfortunately, if we don't improve a lot over the next few years, all of our big players will want to move on if all we are doing is finishing mid table and not winning trophies, only mediocre players are going to put up with mediocre league and Cup form.

He gave us some great performances, but will now go down as a complete prat. He let us down in the biggest game of our season (probably). Really hope he struggles at Spurs and his goal rate remains the same.....very poor.
Pienaar has done things in an admiral way, and has kept playing to a decent standard all the way through.
Here is a tip though: January 2012 Transfer window he will sign back on loan with us, with a view to a permenant deal in Summer 2012.
All the nice Spurs love a sailor..........
What a shame, what a waste! - going from a regular start and £60K a week to hardly a start at £70K a week.
Still, it is God who told you to go isn't it.
Dear oh dear oh dear........speechless.
What I was going to say was.......could we use the £2.5m to get Lescott back on loan until the end of the season?
Pienaar has not put less than 100% effort in every game this season. He has been the reason behind Baines's form all season. He has remained honourable and professional throughout this season.
9 out of 10 footballers, realising that they're not going to get the wages they request at the end of their deal will sit on their hands and go through the motions waiting for their golden Bosman paycheck. Not in this case.
The club have decided to sell him to profit on an untenable situation. It's a crying shame we can't afford to pay the wages he was after (guaranteed to be less than the reported £75k pw the Spuds have agreed), BUT we couldn't afford it so he has to go. £3M for 5 months of his contract is good business.
Shame on those who will boo or criticize him. I think he's served the club exceptionally well and he'll be sorely missed.
But seriously, the lad will be missed, particularly by Baines. Agree with Richie James (#14). Peanuts always gave 100% whenever he played, even when the transfer speculation was rife. OK, he blotted his copybook by saying he wasn't right for the derby, but at the end of the day it was Moyes decision to drop him, not Pienaar's. Davie could've made him play of he wanted to, but the Lescott saga dictated the choice.
So, adios Stevie P. You won't go down in Everton folklore but no-one can say you didn't serve Everton well. God speed...
Great work rate, bugger all end product, I just wish we had tried to negotiate a deal for krankjar at the same time.
I think we have both been watching a different player this season ..Pienaar has never displayed the form he showed last season and as for being the reason for Baines' form words fail me...Pienaar has missed a load of games with injury whilst Baines has continued to play well week in week out WHOEVER is in front of him.
Bye the way it is NOT professional or honorable to refuse to play for the club who is CURRENTLY paying your wages, in one of the biggest games in the football calendar, just because there is a chance you may get injured and louse up your pending massive pay day.,,,but that's just my opinion.
Regular 1st team (1st choice) football every week for £60k or warming his arse 2 out of three weeks for £70/£75k on Tottingham's bench..I know which one I would pick...but I'd play for EVERTON for nothing cos I love them....He was offered a fantastic wage to stay with Everton so yes I'll stick with greedy & over-rated...let's just see how many games he plays for Deputy Dawg then shall we....
He says Everton will always have a special place in his heart. Nobody has asked him to go. If we are to believe Everton the money he would get from either Everton and Spurs is about the same
In addition his place on the starting XI is guaranteed at Everton.
Spurs have a packed squad of central and wide midfielders and despite everything they are not guaranteed a champions league spot next season as they could hit a patch and end up fifth or sixth.
I really like to know what the truth of the matter is with Stevie P.
So the question
I'd love the youth to really step up to the plate and take us forward. 10 x Coleman's mustard please.
My memory is not what it was....
Spot on to me this is like when a lower league player joins the bottom team in the premier league stating "its my dream" , only to be relegated 3 months later and back where he started.
Pienaar will only get Champions League football this season and probably only two matches at that, Tottenham who whisper it quietly incase the media are listening are not that good will not finish in the top 4 this season and once Man City get in there it will be a closed shop once again.
Interested to know any thoughts you may have and in particular if anyone close to club has any knowledge of any clauses.
His agent would have known from last year all the clubs that were interested in the player and what they would pay him thats very obvious.
It's all about money these days for most footballers especially as they are coming to perhaps their laast contract,so we can not balme Pienaar for getting what he thinks he is worth.
The problem for us, as i have said before is that rewarded a midfielder ( arteta ) with a massive £75 grand a week contract and without doubt this is going to cause more problems in the future when negotiating contracts.
How could give this to a player that is coming back from a serious injury,it was complete madness.
D.Moyes did come out and say a while back that a "very good offer" was on the table for Pienaar but that offer was not going to be increased.
That tells us that in Moyes judgement he is not worth what the club are paying Arteta,so you agree with him or you don't!-i agree with him,but i also think we should have sold him before the season started, because Moyes can not afford to lose the club money.
Piennar should have been given an ultimatum by the club ,sign the contract or we sell you!
How may years has Fellani left on his contract !!
Could be relied upon to give 100 per cent every time. Quite tricky and never shirked a chalenge or took a game off.
Think we are getting as good a deal as possible though: £3m for five months left, at 28 years old is OK.
And looking at it objectively, one goal and one assist in 19 games this season is NOT good enough - particularly in light of our current goalscoring predicament.
Might I respectfully suggest that his - and Arteta's even more woeful - impotence is more than partly to blame for our form so far?
Put bluntly, our two main 'providers' just aren't providing.
So depending upon who we get as a replacement (assuming we do), it may turn out to be a progressive piece of business. David Moyes does have quite a good record of unearthing relatively unknown talent after all...
As for Pienaar personally: I'm sure £75k a week will be very nice and that's what the move is all about.
Because despite what he thinks or what Redknapp has told him, he'll be warming his arse on the bench more than sweating sweat in a shirt.
Bale is the first name on the teamsheet and Modric is a close second. Add in a defensive midfielder (Huddlestone, Palacios, Jenas etc) and that just leaves the right hand berth available.
So at best he's going to be sharing with Lennon - and Pienaar is NOT a right winger.
Strange buy then really. But good luck to the fella.
Long-term, a better deal for us than him I think (although he will be able to buy a Porsche every week if he chooses).
It really is another world!
I think there is a fair chunk of lack of faith in EFC in his decision, lets face it - we dont have a pot to piss in!
The greedy twat should have stayed with us, I mean, we could have offered him, errr , mmmm, hang on, I'll think of something, dadada, now what could we have offered him, lets see, errr, it will come to me in a minute, hang on, I'm thinking, we could offer him.......... ahhh, fuck - it, getting a migraine.
Thats it really. Seen far better players leave us over the years. Life goes on EFC is still here.
However, in these times I believe it is a wake up call.
In my opinion new contracts should be put to players at least a year before their present contract expires. A decent amount of time should be given and if not signed the club should make it known by whatever means possible that the player is up for sale.
We should not lose out because the player - or more likely their agent - think they can call all the shots
Oh dear!- I did read something somewhere that Moyes was looking to reward the big man with a new improved contract.
It's going to have to be a very good offer to keep the player interested in signing then given the state of our finances ,because without doubt there are clubs who will swoop for Fellani.
It's not Moyes fault we are in a mess,it's BK and his mates.
At this time i don't think anyone can argue that we are selling club, and the this must change if we are to challenge the for the champions league places.
All jokes aside, Piennar will definitely be out to impress if he gets a run in this Spurs side; only then will we be able to judge!
Another thing Alan, whose to say he wouldn't excell in central midfield for Spurs, he will be surrounded by quality players there.
I too think he'll start in the middle. But if he partners with Modric (who is much better than him IMO) what an incredibly lightweight midfield they'll have. Terribly lightweight.
And that's why he'll only start every third game. I doubt he'll be out wide for Spurs. But who knows...
It's a business. We cashed in on a 28-year-old at the end to get something. £3 mil ain't bad, and he was well worth the return on investment. Good luck to him.
I love hustlers and guys who put out 100%. He was one of them. I'd rather we field men with his approach to the game than lazy, attitudinal jack-offs.
Players these days are bleeding clubs dry and it will all end in tears one day.
