Moyes: Time to go my friend
Comments (70)
I've been a Evertonian since the early 80s and in all my life supporting them I have never known us to be so boring to watch. Yeah, Moyes has worked with a smaller budget but he has bought some shockers for big money.
Now the time has come: he resigns... and let's us get someone else in. I personally reckon we should go for Slaven Bilic. We need someone with contacts...

When Moyes leaves he will be more successful than whoever we get to replace him.
Give the man some decent cash.
It won't happen ,of course, but if it did I'd regain the respect I used to have for the man.
We play average quality football because we spend nothing on players. In case you didn't realise there's a link. You spend nothing you get nothing. Do you honestly think we will rip open teams when we sell our best and our remaining players know this club is a sinking ship?
It seem fairly obvious for me who needs to go.
Lack of money does not excuse the insipid play.
Blackpool are skint but they play far attractive football!
Moyes' favourite players like Osman, Anichebe, Hibbert, Neville, Saha all get regular game time even though they hardly contribute anything to the team. You can even include Arteta in that last list. Moyes needs to be more ruthless, if players aren't performing then they need to be dropped.
There is not much wrong with the squad that we have, just the way we play and who plays when. Time for a change.
You can say that squad is good enough to be doing better but don't underestimate the effect the lack of funds has on the manager and squad. Working at Everton must be like working in the public sector - budget cut after budget cut. All your boss is worried about is how much money you can save him, not how well you perform and not the potential your team has with just a bit more investment. Moyes should walk purely because his boss is taking him for a mug. "Well done Moyes for achieving 5th and a cup final, now achieve the same again but with 15% less money".
We can all talk about how well they're all paid but the complete lack of cash available and the complete lack of ambition shown by the board has completely deflated everyone at the club. Hence, why we get these lacklustre displays. Nothing but a change to the stranglehold Kemwright has on this club will change our situation.
Sack the board!
No decent manager would come into the club to be told there's no money to spend.
Its a sad sorry state, that will probably never change in my lifetime
Im 35....................................
we spent nothing in the summer and we are going around europe begging to loan a striker, when we play in the richest league in the world. WTF
a lack of ambition will kill us this year, the manager and players have talked up everton's chances for several years now-but there are only so many rallying-crys you can do before even the players admit we are going backwards. Moyes hinted at this only this weekend about standing still.
that said how many homes games have we started poorly this year- we don't seem to start playing until the last 30 mins.
no doubt this game like all the others will be brushed until the carpet and next week it will be 'as you are boys'. its like groundhog day at the match these days.
I find it funny that when we do well, Moyes is the Moysiah, and Moyes has shown its not all about money etc, we keep getting told on here.
We're shite, and then it becomes all about the money.
There is one man who stands out to me a mile as the man to take Everton FC forward from here and he is perfectly attainable to us IMO.
Mark Hughes.
He has the right attitude, he has the bug club pedigree, he has proven experience and success working with a small budget and he only has 18 months left on his Fulham contract.
I believe he would jump at the chance to come here and aside from the confidence I have that he and Mark Bowen would improve results, Hughes employs a very positive and attacking brand of football, which the fans of this club have been starved of for far too many years now.
A striker Moyes paid £11M + for is on loan at a championship club. He paid nearly £6M for a class centre half who is usually only good enough to warm the bench. He paid nearly £10M for a Russian international who barely gets any playing time. Not to mention Yobo.
In addition, he will have ok'd the decision to give an extended contract of £75k / week to a guy who has not performed to his highest level for many years.....and perhaps if Arteta was paid 'just' 60k / week, Pienaar may have accepted parity and we'd still have him at the club too.
The manager is the energy behind the club. He is the leader, the one who instils confidence in the players before the games. Does DM instil confidence when you hear him at a press conference? His demeanour is negative and miserable and he seems to set his team out not to get beat. I am not surprised the players seem to go out there with no belief and try to hang on to a draw.
a real go at the way this club is operated.
Instead of sucking up to the useless lovey we have as
a chairman.
Is it because he knows that if someone else came in
as chairman the teams performances this season would not be acceptable.
Who would we get if he went I hear asked, who will replace Billy Liar he is a true blue etc etc.
Well my fellow Blues the sand is nearly running out
KENWRIGHT IS THE ONE WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MESS THIS CLUB IS IN.
I hate to think this never mind posting but if he doesn't go or is not forced out by you the fans soon, we will all wake up one dark May day in the Championship.
Even the game yesterday, as poor as we were, would have been won with a decent striker. Before they even scored Beckford had a chance from the only decent bit of play in the first half but was tackled before he could get a shot away. Contrast that with Saha's almost instant control and shot in the second half which led to Coleman's miss. The problem is though, Saha cannot get through 90 mins anymore.
Moyes has his faults, as any manager does. My family are all Man Utd fans and they are often critical of some of Ferguson's decisions at times. But I do not lay the blame for this season totally at his door. It is obvious we are lacking in probably the most important area of the pitch and I think a lot of the other problems we are having, lack of creativity, our best player (Arteta) having a poor year are results of that.
How great it would be to be able to go out and drop £18m in one go on a Darren Bent. Limited footballer though he is, he would be just like Yakubu when he first came to us. Not doing a great deal until the ball came in the box, but then more often than not sticking it away. Problem is, we know we couldn't afford Marcus Bent let alone Darren!
Given that the position is not likely to change, then Moyes has an unenviable choice this summer. I'm sure he knows that he needs a new frontman, and he knows he will have to generate his own funds to buy one. I fully expect that we will generate some money from selling the likes of Yak, Yobo and Vaughan, and probably Heitinga as well, but nowhere near enough. Therefore, I think either Rodwell or Arteta will be moved on. It won't be popular but we are a sell-to-buy club and our one area of depth is centre midfield. It will be a gamble, and if it fails then I think those on here who want Moyes out will get their wish.
But it is hard to imagine that we will be able to hold onto Fellaini, Rodwell and perhaps Baines this summer unless something changes in terms of new players coming in. Fellaini especially is so carrying the team at the moment it is embarrassing. He will surely be subject to a 20 million plus offer in the summer. This boy is going to be a superstar at a top club. Shame it won't be ours.
On the pitch at the moment the answers are fairly clear. Drop Arteta. Drop Heitinga. Drop Anichebe. Play Bily and Tim when he is back (at least they can score). Play Rodwell and Fellaini together and protect the defence. Bring back Jags. Pray for a decent striker on loan.
Off the pitch we are in serious shit. In terms of ready cash we seem to be now the poorest club in the Prem. Plan B has turned out be 'pray for a rich new owner' (as it always was going to be). No sign of anyone yet.
Those calling for the heads of Moyes and Kenwright still don't get it. Things are MUCH worse than can be solved by simply kicking out the Chairman and Manager. Would that our problems were that superficial!
With no money to spend on players, we won't get anyone better than Moyes as manager. Maybe Allardyce if we are lucky. Probably not. The idea of such as Coyle coming to Everton in our current financial situation is a joke.
Kenwright leaving makes zero difference unless a new owner comes with money. And lots of it! Equity, debt, players, new ground - got to be 400 million minimum. Note that even Spurs want a ground on the cheap now. Ashley couldn't sell Newcastle even when he put it up in a fire sale at 100 million (and they have a ground).
Depressing days indeed to be a blue.
For instance, he was prepared to keep Pienaar and lose him for nothing - I believe the only reason he did sell him was because Pienaar effectively forced his hand by stating that he was in the wrong frame of mind to play in the derby.
I also find it strange that he played Vaughan for 16 minutes in the derby. In doing this, it meant Vaughan couldn't be transferred to Celtic - you can't tell me Moyes wasn't aware of this. Prior to this, Vaughan hadn't been in his plans at all it would appear.
I also note some of the comments he has been making - we are standing still and are being overtaken, I've not enjoyed the last 5 or 6 transfer windows etc.
Maybe I am reading too much into some of these things, but I suspect Moyes is now plotting his own path, having spent years towing the same line as Kenwright...
Im a fan or Moyes as like you Darren i started watching the blues in the early eighties, i have seen some great time and the bad times as most of us have.
Either Kenwrong wont back Moyes or we really have not got a pot to piss in. The fact that we have to sell a player like pienaar (okay we got a good deal for a player that had 6 months left) and can't even afford to put a package together to get a player in on loan is very concerning.
Really hope this trip to Tenerife does'nt end up with players having a barney, that would be the final straw
Who can forget his classics:
Arteta set pieces - answer tall bloke as first man will easily clear the ball coming straight to him - check
Corners - never short ones, always Arteta or Baines, be careful the latter may actually land in the box - check
Corners against Everton - chop and change short and long, will confuse the hell out of them, guarantee 11 men in the box defending so if they clear you get a second chance straight away - check
Players out of position - a DM special this one, look to see a defender in midfield or a central midfielder on the wing, exploit this as it won't change for some time during a match - check
Score the first goal, Everton seldom come back from a goal down to win a, score and park the bus - check
Everton substitutions - always late in a game and usually chasing it, two major things to note, you'll usually see them coming, Moyes and or Round talking to the subs for an eternity before they come on, plenty of time to plan a response, far too often after 80 mins into a game, keep your shape and heads and the game is in the bag - check
Money isn't the crux of the poor football on show, its piss poor predictable mistakes masquerading as tactics.
The big problem is BK, unless you carve that cancer out of the club you are onto a loser from the word go, the club's value is steadily declining, he's burnt all his bridges with lines of credit (friend of the club my arse Bill). Anything to save the club would have to start with him first and foremost. Unfortunately as the clown who sat in front of me in the Park End proved today, you've got really gullible idiots who think all is well, he didn't even stay long enough to see any of our goals and hopefully he was taken back to his care home or wherever he had wandered off from.
Why not give Baxter a game? Turner? Mustafi? Duffy?
There's no real competition for places in the team. is it because Moyes has his favorites and won't drop them? or is it because he knows that that is the best player to do that job?
We are in a serious financial mess by the sound of things and yet every other club is spending something.
A friend of mine is mates with a national sports writer and Kenwright painted a bad picture when he spoke to him and he wont gamble at all.
In one of the lounges yesterday someone close to Moyes said he would walk now only he would not do tha as the fans dont deserve it but he has basically had enough and maybe tha is showing on the field too.
As for that yesterday, I`m afraid we have to get back to one up front next week as Chelsea will piss through that midfield the way Arteta played, I think it`s time to bench him or try him on the left.
Wouldn't be my choice but it is fairly ridiculous how easily people dismiss suggested replacements when Moyes replaced someone far more experienced and successful than it is likely he will ever be.
There are plenty of credible candidates out there, the likes of Paul Lambert at Norwich, Gus Poyet at Brighton, Hughes, Bilic, Owen Coyle.
There is no confidence in the Team - we always look to pass backwards or sideways. No one really runs at defences and rarely do you see anyone running past our player with the ball to give him an option.
Why did Moyes take of Beckford and what did he think Rodwell was going to do coming on in the 87 minute.
There is something seriouly wrong in the club - surley we have the players to beat the bottom team.
Chelsea and Arsenal coming up - another defining couple of weeks.
Paul.
Your comments are spot on. Moyes looks like someone who resigned months ago and BK has definately burned a lot of bridges and now the recession has fucked up any chances of him buying cheap and selling big.
Players will be sold that is for sure, they seem to be playing like they are aware of this. As for Arteta, he took a corner yesterday at the Gwladys end, and yep it was well short. However, shortly afterwards he was speaking with Baines & shaking his head. Arteta did not take another dead ball kick. Something is definately amiss.
Confidence amongst the players is low that is for sure, however it's making GP like a funeral palor with many fans arguing amongst each other, why is beyond me! Anyways, i had my two boys with me yesterday so we missed the last 3 goals, basically to avoid my kids having to listen grown men slagging off Neville & Osman to a depth I have not seen before.
Happy days.
Moyes could have addressed all of our glaring weaknesses in the summer by player trading, but he chose not to.
He is now paying the price for that. A better manager could get both more from the players we have, and more in terms of the financial assets that they represent.
Moyes has been absolutely bottom of the barrel atrocious this term in everything he has done.
Bizarre and reactive substitutions: Beckford off at half time to scapegoat him for the teams abysmal approach play (Moyes really knows how to keep up a striker's confidence doesn't he?). Rodwell on in the 87th minute.
Disgusting set pieces, can nobody else in a team of professionals take a better set piece?
Dave "ja vu" Moyes. He is religious so do not expect him to evolve, he is under no pressure at all and is stubborn and defensively minded, all of which we know anyway.
No doubt the best answer now is to get a new owner in (with money) who will then bring in a new manager and freshen up the whole place.
The problem as always is finding the rich new owner.
The problem is finance and like another poster stated that Moyes is now coming out with statements obviously aimed at the board, stating that unless we have a major transfusion of cash, the only way is down. Even the 'incredible draw' quote, or should that be misquote, came about when he was cpmparing the amount of money the RS have spent to the amount we've spent.
Speaking of the 80's one of the much quoted facts of the Darren Bent was that when Cottee moved to us from West Ham it broke the British transfer record. Those days are long gone
Unless more money is forthcoming from somewhere soon, then Moyes, Fellaini, Rodwell and Baines will all be gone in the summer. And Owen Coyle won't be coming in.
Of course we are 'selling to loan', because even loan fees for top level players come in at 500k to £1m now, and you can only be talking about Pienaar...so what do you expect us to do with such a small fee? It proves nothing.
The idiot rejected £5m from West Ham in the summer (cast iron fact, the quotes are on the OS), and then treated him in a way that suggests to other clubs he is worth about 500k...to the extent that we now have to settle for a loan to a Championship club when we could have had that money and reinvested it.
Bily a £9m substitute, Heitinga a £6m, 55k a week bit part player, Rodwell salable for in excess of £10m hardly used....meanwhile he moans about money.
I'm sorry but it doesn't stand up, not one bit. As someone else said, the big money he had from the Lescott sale was frankly completely wasted and the squad he has at his disposal could be freshened up easily with a few smart player trades, but as per the nickname he came with, "dithering dave" seems completely incapable of doing anything remotely creative.
Does our chairman know as much about football as he is quick to babble about?
Because if he does, then how does he explain the dismal and so predictable performances by Moyes's teams week in week out.
Its easy to see why he has been looking supposedly 24/7 for investment for yonks
because who in their right mind would invest in us.
The result on Saturday versus Chelsea, will either kick start our season again, or plummet us into a possible relegation fight.
Bilic never delivered following a huge transfer from West Ham, was always getting booked, cost us a fortune in severance pay (to sponsor his regal lifestyle back in Croatia) and topped off his World Cup performance in 1998 by diving in the semi-final to ensure that Laurent Blanc missed the final - a pathetic piece of showmanship which earned him a rebuke from the English PFA.
I'd rather have Gordon Lee
People not getting tickets for away games then the box office being shut when they want to contact someone.
Players being allowed to leave for free because no one wrote on a piece of paper.
Cancel a game just because they are too tight to pay someone to go in and put the heating on.
Getting excited about a £12 million pound deal when the other clubs get more than that a season for sponsorship.
Not allowing AGMs cause Billy bullshit doesn't like questions...
The club needs to be run as a business it's obvious we are hemorrhaging money somewhere, so until this is sorted we will continue to loose sleep as Evertonians.

To be honest, I think Moyes and Kenwright have done a brilliant brainwashing job when people are coming on here thinking we can't attract a league 1 manager to Everton.
So I for one don't believe that we will have any of the Pienaar money to spend.
If we did Chris Eagles would be a blue by now.
People were cheering BK when he saw off Paul Gregg a few years back because Gregg would've got rid of Moyes and brought in O'Neill or a foreign manager, hindsight a wonderful thing though eh?! Also if Philip Green ever calls his marker in Everton are finished.
Our commercial department is a joke even the likes of Stoke and West Brom generate more commercial revenue than we do. But and this is the big one things will never change unless we follow our red cousins lead and protest and do it loud do it long ,do it in the press,do inside and outside of the ground but most of do it peacefully and organized then Moyes and Kenwright will both have to sit up and take notice!
By the way, you said your sources said Pienaar was going to sign (or you were just guessing).
Incidentally your SOS1878 website is a total laughing stock amongst any Evertonians that have had the misfortune to visit it.
The other thing I picked up on was that Sharp was complaining that we have no-one to hold the ball up and play off. Wait there...I thought that's what Yakubu does, whether he's playing well or not (and he's better than Beckford and Anichebe) so well done Moyes for yet another masterstroke loaning him out and we will get zilch for him.
I think you are out of order.
I don´t know Neil Steele, but I agree with a lot of the points he is writing about.
I have only ever glanced at SOS1878. Good or bad is not important now, but what I do admire is anyone who has the balls, and gives up his own time to set up a website about a football club he obviously loves.
Kenwright (Demoted)
Moyes out
Round out
Lord Granchester in
New manager in (Shame we missed out on Ruud gullit) still loads of other candidates.
Reid, Harvey (not sure on Colin´s health, but the best coach we have ever had), and a striker coach.
COYB
Also, we have a Lord Grantchester, Earl, Woods, Carter, Green? How much are that lot worth? Why wont they invest?
Reading between the lines, I think Grantchester won't invest while Kenwright's got control,
Woods, I know very little about; think he's from Chester, maybe a builder; Carter, was worth £70M a long while ago; Earl, it's said, underwrote our loans to the banks and increased them with the money for Yak. He paid £9 M for his shares, and said at the AGM that he won't invest a penny till we move to Kirkby.
Again, sounds like Bill got him involved with the carrot of DK. I believe he has spat his dummy out and won't now invest. If he has underwrote loans to the bank, if say they were £20/30M, and also increased this another £20M, at the time thinking everything was rosey, together with his initial £9M, we could be in debt to him to the tune of £60M, and I think his share is 23%.
Maybe we should try to contact him, do'nt know how, but we might find out what is realy going on, before it's to late.
Neil Steele aka Staveros runs a communist-style website where anyone has differing views to him (i.e. Moyes out etc.) they get banned from the site and posts removed. He also likes to claim he's in the know about all things Everton yet his 'sources' are often wrong and anyone who comes on the site with information is castigated. The lad and his site are a total joke. He's a control freak and any Evertonian who has been on that site would agree.
People like Michael Kenrick should be applauded for running sites like this where all Evertonians are free to air their opinions and are not stopped, banned or removed for doing so.
Maybe I´ll just sit on the fence this time.
COYB
Holloway and Di Matteo have both proven that mega millions isn't the only answer this season, tactics and bloody good football has earned them well deserved plaudits, they've lost games too but no one in this league is Barcelona, they never will be.
ps: Some comments do get deleted from here but not for their views, more how they express them ? like being abusive to fellow Evertonians, for example. The main reason for deleting posts here is to maintain a decent quality to the discussion.
