Saha out for a month
Comments (61)
This is beyond a joke.
Saha is out for month after damaging a hamstring in training.
What with Rodwell's injury for the U-21's this just sums up what it is like being an Everton supporter.
Exciting match restores a bit of optimism and then two important players ruled out for at least a month through needless injuries.
It's enough to drive me mad!

Everton have been hit with a second injury blow in days as Louis Saha faces a month out after pulling a hamstring in training.
The absence of the France striker is a massive blow to the club, and boss David Moyes, and comes hot on the heals of Thursday's news that Jack Rodwell is out for at least a month with a groin injury picked up on international duty.Saha, who was hailed as one of the best finishers in world football last week after he netted four against Blackpool, has suffered with hamstring injuries throughout his career and it looks like the curse has struck again.
It means Moyes is likely to be without both Saha and Rodwell for the next month as he looks to guide the side away from a possible relegation battle.
Well played, Moyes.
(Sorry about the cynicism but you didn't have to be a rocket scientist...)
Alternatively Moyes might play Anichebe for his physical presence, although his lack of genuine goal threat would be a worry.
As soon as we turn a corner start to look good, something always happens.
Most certainly now with this news of Saha, why can't we go in for a player like this Brazillian forward, Ewerthon, that was linked with Newcastle...

But what chance have we now got against Chelsea (eight days away)? Jeez!
It will be interesing to see what he decides.
4-4-2 then, with Cahill and Beckford up front, couldn't be better.
Steven (#4) ? because we haven't the money to pay the wages.
I'd much prefer it if we'd not have brought these two in and signed someone that can go straight into the first team now and help us push up the league and away from danger! Or not have signed them and kept Yak or Vaughan!
Why? To get them off the wage bill.....
Or maybe try something on the side of outrageous and give the young Frenchman, or Baxter a shot... but nope, it'll be 4-5-1 with Victor and he'll be replaced at 75 mins by Beckford.
After last weeks stormer, we'll revert to type and try to snatch a 1-0.
What corner have we turned?
We beat Blackpool for gods sake!
I think the same thing each time Osman is selected.
Seriously though, any injury to Saha will illustrate the dire straits we're in.
It's one thing not to have the money to buy strikers like Tevez, but another when you have to loan out your VERY non-Tevez strikers to save on wages.
Plus to hear Moyes state a few days back that we were outspent in the transfer window by... Crawley Town was a low point.
Of course I don't blame him for that, but I do wonder why he isn't more vociferous about his lack of... well, anything from the useless fuck-wits who 'run' Everton.
Truly desperate.
?You can?t stand still but that doesn?t always mean you spend billions to make it happen,? he said. ?If that?s the case you're going to have two or three clubs who can do that and no one else.
?If you look at what Everton have done over eight or nine years I have tried to keep it moving slightly, nudging it up, nudging it up.
?We have not spent big money but we are competing with a lot of clubs who have spent big money. We are not far off.
?You have watched us play Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool. People say Everton are not doing brilliant, but why don?t they say look at the money over the years that Liverpool have spent ? and Everton have taken four points off them.
?Look at Chelsea and the money they have spent. Look at the game against Manchester United at Goodison and look at what Everton have spent.
?If you said to me we were getting thrashed and we were way out of our depth you could talk about decline, lack of progression.
?You can?t do that. You can only really say Everton aren?t doing as well as we thought, but they are as good as most of the teams.?
Hmmm.... aren't doing as well as we thought, not in decline... where are we in the table, eh, Davey? Had a look lately have you??? Compare that with where we used to be. That's not decline? Look at your squad! That's not lack of progression?
The bloke is seriously delusional.
Sorry for the diversion... must be nostalgia week...
Moyes is not delusional. He's just "tactically challenged".
We have done quite well against the bigger clubs. It's against the Blackburns and Boltons of the world where we have faltered this season. Moyes raises a very valid point ? we aren't that far off and when HE plays men in proper positions we're damn good at times.
There's nothing he can do currently. Our financial landscape is simply horrible. We had to cash in for Peanuts (pun intended) and had to loan players out to stop a financial downward spiral that would ruin the club.
He's a good manager, and he's officially handcuffed with resources. He's going to have to sell major assets in the Summer. And unfortunately because of some really poor handling on the business side, that is a good thing long term.
I just wish, as I'm sure you do, Moyes would attack lesser teams, and play men in proper positions.
But his quote is a standard, "the world isn't as bleak as you make it" from a company guy who's been clearly given marching orders to put as positive a spin on things as he can in dark times.
Don't get me wrong, Moyes pisses me off to no end at times. But I'm not so sure his quote you cite is a poor one, or makes him delusional. He's making a valid point when placed in perspective, and he's toeing the company line.
There IS an arguement that he's possibly drank too much of the corporate Kool-Aid.... but that quote - he's just doing his job that he gets paid very handsomely for.
He's playing the big-business game.... Call him a clever ass-kisser instead.
Seattle Sounders star Freddie Ljungberg has been playing with a broken hip for TWO YEARS!
The injury-hit Swede joined Major League new-boys Seattle Sounders after tearing up a four-year contract at Upton Park last August.
And it was only after Ljungberg, 32, arrived in the US that specialists pinpointed a dodgy hip as the root of his problems.
The midfielder said: ?The doctors found out the hip was the reason I had so many hamstring injuries.
?I had an operation and was told it would take up to five months to recover. But I only missed the first three games. I feel very good at the moment.?
The galling thing is that this is a very talented footballer but who is beyond the pail as regards his so-called "proness to injury" It is a pity that they do not do scans regarding character, commitment, engagement and responsibility ? we would then have a clearer picture as regards the true worth of Louis Saha ? a talented footballer but a complete waste of time as regards dependability.
What a superb position he finds himself in ? able to "cry off" at the least opportunity ? and because of the dire situation at the club ? continue to have people fawning over him both within the management and on the terraces. The tragedy is that Everton's situation at present means he is able to get away with it...
King Louis? He is a knave!
'Yes, as you have no doubt noticed, there has been virtually no investment in the squad for quite some time now, meaning that this is probably the smallest squad I've had in my time here and there's no real chance of that changing anytime soon, as a result our league position is suffering and it's probably only going to get worse. If I was a top player here I'd probably look to move on to a club which is run by a Board which has ambition'.
Queue the mass exodus and ridiculously low bids by the likes of that gobshite Redknapp for our star players, leaving us in an even worse situation.
Love him or loathe him, and I've been a big critic this season, Moyes has got to try and get the best out of his players, he has got to keep them going, he has got to keep things as positive as possible, it's what managers do in every walk of life, they stay as positive as possible in a crisis to try and ensure the staff do the same, stay positive. Once fear and negativity set in, it's a very slippery slope I'm afraid.
A few weeks ago I was livid at his lack of mobility, what a waste of space, if he's a striker then I'm a fuckin' astronaut etc etc, the ball was 5 yards away, he just looked at it, he must have been favouring the leg. Yet against Blackpool I saw him scream off after a loose ball a few times, the upshot was he got 4 goals.
His praisers have always said the key words... 'a FULLY fit' Saha is a world beater. Shame it's only 1 game in 5, if that. Team requirements mean that Moyes has to play him even at 75% fitness.
So we are back to square one no money = small squad.
The super optimist in me thinks that the 10-14 days is the truth and that Moyes is making a virtue out of a neccesity, knowing full well that Bolton's plan A will be along the lines of... Owen Colye: "Oi you, big fella!" BF: "Yes Boss?" OC: "That Saha scored FOUR last week, right from the off, kick the livin' shit outta him... let's see how many he scores with no legs.
I guess we all thought this WOULD happen at some point
It's a fookin' joke that we have no cover and Becks or Vic are not lone strikers
What a mess we are in.
I'm more worried about where go from here, and considering the form Saha was in only a few weeks back when he was doing his best impression of Stuart Barlow, it proves how reliant we have become on ONE man to get us out of the shit we find ourselves in.
Kevin (#32) hit the nail on the head re Victor and I only hope Beckford can step up!
It's already been said but I can see a front pairing of Fellaini and Cahill as Moyes will revert back to his tried but not so trusted ways. Where we end up is anyone's guess.
I'm dreading the trip to Stamford Bridge, I'm going to the game too, so come Saturday teatime, I will probably be drowning my sorrows with £5+ pints somewhere in London... Can't wait!!
They now reside at Goodison Rd!!
If he'd have turned up his nose and buggered off to Turkey, good riddance. Even when he IS fit, he never seems fully fit to me.
You wake up to find that a wn at Bolton will propel the Blues to 8th... only to find out that Saha is once again injured. How shall we win at Chelsea without Saha? Fuck.
It is February. Why are we half flogging our players to death in training at this stage of the season? Just rest them.
Oh and Moyes: You don't do us any credit by moaning about Rodwell's injury. At least he got injured in a game, playing for his country. We should be proud that he represented England. You are starting to sound like Wenger. Injured in a game is one thing, but having your already injury prone in-form on-fire striker injured in training is madness
Who is in charge here???
I believe Saha offered the club that option, but they declined it.
