As a Shropshire-based Blue, I was pleased to see some positive feedback for the way we are still conducting business at the club amidst all the doom and gloom.

A story in this week's Shrewsbury Chronicle about our signing of the Shrewsbury Town youth team keeper Mason Springhope concludes with a quote from the Shrews about how Everton had conducted the deal:

"The Chairman, Manager and Head of Youth met with Everton Mangager David Moyes, the club secretary David Harrison and representatives of Everton's Academy in order to negotiate the settlement. We would like to thank Everton for the manner in which the business was conducted and we wish Mason the very best luck for the future."

The young keeper went on to describe how we uncharacteristically out-manouvered a Premier League rival for his signature: "I know Man City came to Shrewsbury's last youth team game last weekend as they didn't know I wouldn't be playing and that a deal had already been done with Everton."

Small victories seem so sweet at such times....

I read that he used to be a striker. Now unless, by some miracle, he actually turns out to be the answer to our striking problems to see us through this relegation battle we're in, I can't get very excited about anything related to this story. We needed to replace our outgoing strikers and we didn't.

By not doing so, we fucked up on so many levels. We should have been focussing on saving this car crash of a season. Signings "for the future" are all very well. Let's make sure we actually have a future first, though, shall we Mr Kenwright & Mr Moyes?!

Bloody hell, Jamie, take the post in isolation.

I was just smiling at this letter and thinking "well, at least we have our club's transfer principles to be proud of", and you brought me crashing back down to earth.

I don't disagree with what you are saying, but far too many posters stray off point to be critical.

I wish some of these youth signings made good, we've had far too many over the last four or five years that disappear without a trace.

Has striking experience too! That kind of versatility would warm the cockles of Moyes heart. It would not be too much of a surprise to see the lad wearing number 9.

Sorry to upset you Tony #2. This season is turning me into a miserable old bastard!

So, on your advice I shall now take the post in isolation.

We have signed a young, unproven goalkeeper who Man City may or may not have been interested in and we managed not to upset anybody in the process.

Whoopdee doo! Take that Man City! Ha! You can stick your third place in the table up your arse, because WE signed some kid for less than what you pay Tevez in a week! Aren't we great! Well done Mr Moyes. Well done Mr Kenwright. That showed 'em! Ha ha! Things are finally looking up!

Hopefully he turns out to be better than "the future Scottish and English number ones" we have signed before in Turner, Ruddy and Simonsen.

Chin up lads, how many of us knew anything about Southall when we signed him?? Or for that matter Cahill, Arteta, Fellaini or Coleman??

Couple of quick points:

1. The kid's name is actually Mason Springthorpe, not Springhope.

Jamie #5 - Yes, we all agree the club is badly run by the club's board. And yes, this season should be a priority. However, football clubs cannot solely operate in the now. They also need to look to the future as well, and part of this involves scouting promising young players to bring into the club. Taking the piss out of the club for scouting and signing a promising young player doesn't really achieve anything. It's not really anything to knock the club for. If they weren't doing such basic stuff, that would be cause for concern. Why be bitter about Man City? They are in a different financial league to us. What they do is of no concern to us. Yes, most of us would all love that to be us, but it isn't ? that's life! We just have to get on with it, and Moyes & the scouting team doing a piss poor job isn't going to get BK out any sooner.

Jay #12 ? Yes, but that would involve spending more than the £125,000 we have just spent on Mason Springthorpe. Money we clearly haven't got.

Jamie, #5, I stand corrected.

Let's all have a downer on everthing that happens at the club from now on.

Let's moan like whinging little whores about absolutely everything, so that every fan really starts to hate all aspects of the club.

I told you I agreed with your point and you still had to try to denigrate me. Well, I suppose you are consistent at least.

Seamus #14, we bought Seamus Coleman when he was 21, hardly a youth signing but a very good value for money one.

Lee #10, I'd cetainly heard of Cahill before we signed him and watched his Cup exploits for Milwall, I was also aware of Arteta from his time at Rangers, they have had some surprising players there before going on, Gattuso also played for them.

Paul, its great that we have done the transfer of this kid the right way, but you only have to look at the transfer of Luke Garbutt from Leeds, that came across far from being done the right way.
