Will we Screw Up with Reading?

Already people are talking about who we will face after Reading. Whether it's City or Villa...But, what about Reading? What gives us the right to assume that Reading is already in the bag?

Have we forgotten the Brentford disaster? Isn't it possible that we might screw up by drawing in Goodison and draw in the return fixtures and get our ass kicked out in the penalties?

After all, Everton is the master of chocking when things get too hot. We've screwed up too many times when it really counts for us to perform, even with minnows like Brentford.

Although I am happy that we won at Stamford Bridge, no-one can doubt me when I say we were lucky. If we don't start bucking up and play some decent football, we will see that Reading will be our nightmare.

Forget about City and Villa, it's Reading that I am worried about. We have a track record of screwing up with lower teams.

Your'e 'worried about Reading', I can't believe some people! We are obviously not through to the next round yet but if we don't believe that we can beat Reading at home we might as well give up!

Yes we were lucky at Chelsea (it's about time and long overdue) but Chelsea were just as lucky at Goodison and over the 2 legs I think that we deserved to go through! Let's have some positivity on here!

What's one more nightmare to go with the many we have had this season already? We struggle to beat many teams although we seem to get better results against the top 6.

Reading will be relaxed with nothing to lose so expect 1-0 to Everton. That's all that matters, progression to the next round... but first let's take care of Sunderland before worrying about Reading. I am still savouring Bainsy's free kick and the penalty shoot out.

Shrewsbury and Oldham come to mind as well. Sorry for being nagative, Ron, but supporting Everton has taught me that the glass is normally half-empty.

Reading will come looking for a draw and a replay and we don't appear to possess the guile to break down negative sides, hence the number of draws at Goodison this season.

Let?s hope they come to attack, but agree with Tom #6, Sunderland is all that matters at the moment.

No team should get into a false sense of security in a cup game, look at Crawley battering Man U for at least an hour of their game and unlucky not to get at least an equaliser and Leyton Orient getting an equaliser right at the death against Arsenal.

One game at a time ? including the remaining league games; belief, but not just expecting to turn up and them rolling over. The knowledge at least one of Arsenal and Man U will be gone if we can beat Reading then Man Shitty or Villa.

He's got a point, we've got to respect Reading, they're a decent football team in the Championship with some good players.

Of course we should beat them, but assuming we will is wrong indeed.

What really matters is that the TEAM do not lull themselves into that way of thinking. Knowing Moysie, he will have learnt from previous trip-ups and will send them out to finish the job. However, as always, it is up to the players to ensure that they follow his guidelines!

Definitely the type of game we could mess up. We can't take Reading for granted, however we must be confident and keep the high spirits from Saturday firmly in our system (for the whole season).

A good performance against Sunderland with 3 points will set the tone for Reading (without a win in 7 games). My worry is how dependent we are on Saha's fitness to sharpen up the business end.

Forgive my exuberant confidence, but I'm already wrestling with who I would fancy in round six!

Man.City would be my preference. Villa always seem a bogey team to me.

You're right Rahman. We shouldn't be dismissing Reading. Any match in the cup is a one off and we should just take one game at a time. Those who sday we should mallet Reading would do well to remember how we should have malleted West Brom. So let's get this one won before we start saying who we'll beat in the next round.

Beating Chelsea in a shoot-out at their ground is always going to be special, but what if it?s yet another case of After The Lord Mayor?s Show?

We NEED to beat Sunderland on Saturday, otherwise we are dragged right into a relegation scrap and one that might (just might) go all the way to the last game. Do we have the players for a scrap? Is the manager prepared, just in case it happens? What players could you rely on?

I?m not a doom monger but I am a realist, and I don?t think those players are going to want to be involved in relegation battles year after year, especially if offers come in from other clubs.

I don?t think we?re a selling club but I do think players could be sacrificed to service the debt. What I want to see from now on is a charge at the league and to get a winning run going that could potentially land us a Europa spot. Is it so much to ask?

We're on a march with Moyes's army, we're on our way to Wembley. Only this time we will have learnt from 2 years ago.

The Cup is coming back to Goodison. Beat Reading, beat City reserves, Man United will have been knocked out. Avoid the other Mancs in the semi and steal the final. Job's a good 'un!

Rahman, the reason why I assume we will beat Reading is that we are miles better then they are, and are playing at Goodison. I don't believe that this is blind optimism; despite our disappointing season so far, we would beat Reading nine times out of ten, and that is why I am looking forward to playing City or Villa in the next round.

If the after-effects of the Bolton debacle was a rejuvenated performance at Chelski, any success against Reading could hinge on us having a shocker against Sunderland...

Wow...really talking the boys up here aren't we!?!?

We will beat Reading. We will get through to face City/Villa.

No we dont have the right to assume that but I have right to speculate and as somebody who does wear blue tinted spectales, I believe that we will brush reading aside. I can't believe you lot don't either.

Where is the faith? No wonder we can't perform - Goodison is like a morgue at the moment, full of doom and gloomers. Cheer up and back the team rather than point out the bad points.

Whilst we are all talking about being premature............

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is wary of FA Cup opponents Everton.

City have drawn Everton in the quarterfinals at home.

"It is good to be drawn at home but we never seem to beat Everton," said Mancini.

"In any case we and they have tough matches to get through before then."
