Bily has tweeted today that it's bollocks that he wants to leave. Respect to him for coming straight out and saying so.

I think the question, John, is more how long does he need to get a run of games in the team? He's gaining more match time now and it's showing in some good performances, but he should be given a starting place more often.
This boy has shown an exemplary attitude in his public life since he joined, others (John Heitinga) would be well served by following his example.
Bily has considerably more skill and ability than he is judged to have on this site. All he lacks is pace. Played in the right position where he can use his skills, and outright pace is not the be-all and end-all, he might be a revelation. Some great players haven't had that much speed... after all, the first five yards is in your head.

It has been interesting to see how Bily performs in the Cahill role. Instead of starting Timmy everytime Moyes goes 4-5-1, why not try Bily there instead?
Or even when TImmy is injured, instead of lumping Fella or Rodders there, why not try BIly?
And what I mean by 'try' is at least one half of a game instead of 5-10 mins cameo in that role

Jalil. Many of us have been saying the same for a long time now. As you are no dought aware,it takes a while for the penny to drop for DM.
We should definitely retain him. He is skilfull and has'nt been given sufficient, successive game time. He has more skill than most of the rest of the squad and a classy left foot to boot (no pun intended). He also seems to be a decent sort of guy in contrast with some of the berks on show in the premiership these days. Rememberalso that when he first came to us he had been playing in world cups and all sorts of foreign leagues non stop for a considerable period of time with predictable consequences.
41 appearances, 7 goals. Not too shabby for a player who most people are waiting to "make an impression."

Most involve Billy playing/shooting/scoring through the centre of the park, as mentioned on the thread previously.
Throughout his career (club & international) so far he's averaged a goal almost ever 4 games.
Its an old saying but form is temporary, class in permanent and in my opinion Billy is class but he needs time on the pitch. DM seems to have the opinion that because he can't slot in and play exactly like Pienaar that he's not up to it, complete bollocks, Billy is a different kind of player and as such we should play to his strengths. He makes some intelligent runs that rarely seem to be noticed, his downfall is probably that he seems to be quiet on the pitch, he needs to start dishing out some bollockings and make people give him the ball.
I think Beckford would benefit from Billy playing more reguarly, Billy is more inclined to play a through ball or a low cross to the front post which JB would thrive on.
Osman in for the rest of the season then...(who to be fair played well at the weekend, but Sunderland were beyond poor).

He constantly gets in to good areas a skill which is most valuable in the modern game. Just need composure to finish more of his chances and he could very easily be a goal scoring midfielder for us.

If we played Baines as a lone striker, I don't think he would be the star player he has been this season. Bily never has been a winger... I don't know why Moyes plays him there. It is similar to the Fellaini situation when he first arrived, most of us wanted to drive him to the airport ourselves. All because he was being played out of position. Let's hope Bily will get his chance in his natural position soon (then I will rate him).
I also believe he should get more playing time in the correct position. We all know what Osman has done with all his playing time and it's not good, but Bily hasn't had a good run. Bily is younger and should be used as a regular for our future. With Bily, Fellaini, Rodwell, Coleman and Baines we have an average age of under 24 and a good start for our future.
I'm a fan of Bily, I think he is a unique player for Everton, he seems to see passes that others don't, he just thinks differently, which can only be a good thing. That goal against Man U, the way he hit that shot, who was expecting that? Give the lad more game time. And well said Drew (3), these things do matter!

James #10, Bily has said himself in the first week he joined us that he's not a winger but more of an 'inside left'. Seems nobody at the club was listening.
Matteo #10, I agree he sees passes nobody else in the team is smart enough to see, and so fail to get on the end of, so it makes Bily look at fault.
He must stay. He looked real class when he got his 10 minutes against Sunderland. Definitely a player for the future.
I would have loved Bily to put in the sort of performance Osman did on Saturday, involved in most plays, as I'm sure his finishing ability would have seen him grab two goals from the openings Osman failed to finish. However, left side is not his position in a 4-4-2 or a 4-5-1.
Is it too much to expect a 4-3-3? Beckford and Saha up top, Bily just off them, with Coleman, Fellani Arteta behind and Baines as ever providing width on the left.
We need to find out before the end of the season if Bily can fit in consistently at the club; if not then he goes and we bring Rodwell to the fore.

Listen fellas, we're all pretty much in agreement that Bily has something different to offer, and spots a good pass etc. He's a player that gets us passing the ball on the deck (much like Pienaar in that respect)... but he has a big weakness ? the defensive side of his game.
I strongly believe we need 4 midfielders who can chase the runners, get goal side, and put a foot in at the right time. That leaves just 2 places in the team for attack-minded players (an Bily is included with these). Whether we play 1 up and one in behind, or 2 up, it doesn't matter... Bily is a liability when played in the midfield 4.

To be honest, as long as Saha is fit, we have to keep Beckford in the starting line-up. Saha is by far our most talented player, and Beckford needs him to have any kind of a game. As and when he's not fit to play, I say drop Beckford and stick Cahill up on his own, with Bily behind him. It would be a good partnership in my opinion.
Bottom line is, he's a luxury player who can do something a bit special at times. You can't play him in a position that requires a defensive mind when we're not in posession. In a nutshell, I'd describe him as a bit of a McFadden type player.... no great strenght in his physical ability, but can score a stunner every now and then.
With our penchant for keeping a high number of players on the treatment table, Bily should not be offloaded. Felli and Beckford picked up knocks on Saturday. Cahill doesn't seem fully match fit either. Saha is always seconds away from an 'accident'. We are threadbare as it is with probably the smallest squad in the Premier League.
Bily has a role to play in this team. And, as Drew #3 pointed out, this guy has been a model pro since he joined. He scores regularly at International level and DM needs to start playing the lad in a more central role, where skill, guile and craft are more important than pace down the wing.

Josh Holmes #11. You have said nearly all what I wanted to say about Bily. But if I may add a comment, some months ago Gus Huddink was asked about certain Russian lads in the Premier League, Bily & Arshavin in particular, and one of his remarks was that he thought Bily had not settled into his club, like Arshavin, although being played out of position did not help.
He did not mention in the interview, what he regarded as the players best position, but surely Moyes must have had words with the lad on this subject? But Moyes does have a habit of playing players out of thier comfort zone. The player has been here long enough to have had time to bed in.

Bily has been here over a year and a half now ? how long does he need to make an impression? I hope I'm wrong but I don't think it's going to happen for him here ? and with money at dire straits level, at least we would probably fetch £4/5 million for a fairly young Russian international.
