Did anyone see the reserves derby? Dier and Bidwell looked good amongst others, but the star of the show was without doubt Jose Baxter, a superb display.
Maybe this prospect isn't going to disappear to the lower leagues just yet...

I'd prefer Baxter to Jaoa Silva or even Backford.
Rahman, there is a hell of a difference in playing great in a very low level at Finch Farm to running 50 yards and scoring against Chelsea. From what I have seen from Baxter so far is just a little basic scouse grafter, I would love to be proved wrong as the Shite have a similar type of player in that bitter blue they have playing for them from Wallasey.
Beckford has so many flaws but he still is a goalscorer and has the best ratio in the top flight for goals per minutes on the pitch. He creates so many chances for himself but as we saw yesterday misses too many of them; however, some hard work and regular games will sort that out.
Baxter is slower than a dead snail and will never make it in the top flight.
He's got to be the slowest player I have ever seen in 45 years watching footy.
Always thought that Baxter had talent. Just wish he doesn't turn into another Billy Kenny.
Baxter has been around the first team long enough that I have to think, if he hasn't made it by now with a team who have a very average strikeforce, he never will.
Beckford had three one-on-ones yesterday, mostly of his own doing; the misses will frustrate but Beckford has goals in him.
How many other strikers earn themselves three clear goalscoring chances against Chelsea?
If you look on Twitter, Wallace and Duffy are tipping Baxter to be a star next year. Who better to judge you than your peers? Baxter and Beckford up front in two years will be a force. On Beckford, he said he should have had a hat-trick but he is getting the opportunities and creating chances himself.
Baxter to me could be an Osman.
I think a loan spell in the Championship next season, until January, would give a good indication of how good he is or could be.
If he makes it, I can then see him becoming a regular, in place of Ossie, and dividing the support with inconsistent displays.

Unfortunately, I don't think Baxter will make it. Not enough pace, or enough genius to make up for the lack of pace. I do like the look of Vellios, and he's knocked in a few in the reserves.
I've heard good things about Bidwell and Garbutt, are either likely to be ready as back-up for Baines next year? That could save us some cash.
I've also not seen Dier in action. Is he someone we should take permanently? If so, do we know how much he'll cost?
Baxter has had game time but to be honest he hasn't looked at all dangerous on any occasion. I very much doubt he will ever break through. Barkley will be the next one as Moyes has already said.
Baxter needs a season on loan to a Championship club. That's the only way to see where he is really at. I suspect he will end up playing at that level anyway but hope I'm wrong.
He's certainly not ready to displace Beckford who, in my eyes, has had a pretty good debut season for someone taking a step up.
Gonna be an interesting (and no doubt a frustrating) summer!
Shame, he was talked about as being one of the most talented players to come through since Rooney. If he has the raw skill then size and pace should not be an issue assuming he isn't played on the wing. Iniesta at Barca for example, little Ossie with us!
He's the reserve team player of the season so he must have done something well, albeit at reserve level which we all know is nowhere near Championship.
I agree with the other optimistic supporters here. I think we should see how he does on loan to a Championship side and then make a decision based on that. We should give our kids a chance as they could be late developers.
He's only 19 which is still very young for someone to be playing in the premier league. Being there or thereabout between the ages on 16-19 doesn't make you not good enough - if anything just being on the fringes at the age indicates that you might have something about you. You get one or two players who come through early and it seems to paint this unrealistic picture that all players should be ready to walk into the first team on their 16 or 17th birthday. That isn't the case at all. To those calling for him to be sent on loan next season ... I couldn't agree more. Even if he has a full year or two learning his trade in champsionship and then comes back at the age of 21, nothing wrong with that.
Seems sensible enough from the majority of posters here. Give him a season in the championship and see what happens.
How about we put all our senior strikers on loan, and rely on him in a 4-5-1? That'd save us some money. Cant go wrong eh? ;)
