What's in a league place?
Comments (25)
Have just seen that Man ure got just over £60M for winning the league with The Hammers picking up a lil' over £40M for comming bottom of the pile. This in turn worked out that every place the team finished higher was worth £0.75M.
Add on the TV money which is worth £0.425M per game with a minimum of 10 games per club up to a maximum of 26 and you start to see why as a team you need to be in the Premier League.
And, just to rub salt into the wounds of those clubs we lost this year, the TV money is going up again for the next 3 years!!!

The agreement, is for 10 years and will see Kitbag take responsibility for high street shopping, mail order and the club's online store.
We are showing 5 available old kits; however, the RS have over 214 available kits to buy, names on backs etc.
We look like an afterthought. Someone in our club should be shot for this!!!
Can't wait for the TV bubble to burst - as it surely will - and the whole house of cards comes tumbling down.
Perhaps then we'll get back to a game driven by the traditional values of fair competition and winning something - as opposed to how much a particular cup, or league placing is 'worth'.
This obsession we have developed for the money equation is killing the game for me.
Sadly Liverpool and Newcastle bring in bigger TV audiences. I doubt City would have been on Sky so many times if still at Main Rd etc. I really do believe that the Kenwright regime has done this once great club good n propper. We have stood still at best during his reign, gone backwards in terms of stadium and promotion of EFC. I wonder if there's a Boys Pen in Hell?
David #9 coats for goalposts and terraces full of flat caps has long gone, the Sky money is the only way to pay for these overpaid tarts that claim to be professional players these days, the catch 22 being if you don't have them you ain't going to stay in the league and thus lose the Sky money
Joe #11 it's been said on older threads that we don't play exciting football enough these days to command regular viewers besides the faithful and the perennial Sky darlings have the media by the balls so the sheeple get to watch those and be told they are the finest example of football in the world. A perfect example of this was granny shaggers overhead kick getting MoTD goal of the season, watch it again and realise it shows piss poor defenders standing off him, it shows it coming off his shin and could have gone fucking anywhere, a fluke goal but a media darling so nailed on for the win.
In Airports worldwide you can buy Barcalona kits in the Nike shop but also Atletico Madrid shirts despite having more famous media grabbing city neighbours. In the adidas shops in outlet stores from The States to New Zealand, Stoke City shirts are sat next to the AC Milan and Bayern Munich kits!
We're missing a trick big time in getting noticed, not just over here but worldwide. For a team that has had Cahill, Pienaar and Donavan in a blue shirt in the past 2 years, it's a disgrace.
We've been underselling Everton since the days of Shoot and Match magazine only having Liverpool, Utd, Arsenal and Spurs products for sale on its pages. Remember the Greavsie's Six of the Best videos of the 80s? A 70s version was available for the above teams but not Everton? 20 years later we get a "Big Match" DVD with 70s classic games but not 20 years earlier.
Who makes those decisions and who complains about it when we're not included? Stuff like this has been happening for decades and yet there doesn't seem to be anyone up in arms about it. Saying it's easy to buy shirts online is not going raise the profile of one of the world's oldest and greatest football clubs ever known; investment will always end up across the park and down the East Lancs and M1.
What I'm trying to get across is that I would love to walk into Colchester (where I work) on my lunch break, and buy one off the shelf!!
I went to visit my brother in Spain the other week, where most of the people I met that live their are Everton fans and not a single shop had an Everton shirt, but they had Birmingham!!!! Point being, I don't want to buy mail order, I want to buy in a shop...
Personally I'd welcome it. I have lost count of the number of times I've met RS fans who have never been to Old Trafford, yet have seen every game.

If we have a Commercial Director, he should be sacked on the spot. I hear more commercial opportunitys discussed on here, than any that are leaked from Goodison ? it's a fucking shambles. I refer to zero merchandise at Liverpool Airport, no shirts at major UK retailers ? certainly none down south; poor pre-season preparations, with potential money spinning Mini tournaments missed...
Rant over!!!
