Vaughan to Norwich
Comments (65)
Just heard that we have agreed a fee of £2.5M with Norwich for James Vaughan.
Firstly I think we should wish the lad good luck in the Premier League next season and I hope he gets on a roll and scores a few, getting his career up and running properly.
Secondly, I think £2.5m is not a bad piece of business for him, he was never really going to get into the Everton team in recent seasons (well, last season not counting), so any funds for next season will be welcome.
Good Luck, JV!

If reports are true what a deal for us. Always hoped he would make it as us but injuries obviously harmed his chances. Good luck to the lad.
Good price, it's a pity that he had such a bad time with injuries. Hope he does well with them.
Always thought he was a better prospect than Vic.
Also, it's a feckin nap that he scores against us. I will be putting a tenner on him.
Good Luck JV. If he can stay clear of injuries I think he may just bag a few. I think Norwich play 2 upfront so that will help him.
That's a great deal, bite their arm off Davey! It's not much by today's standards but we'll take it!
Good luck to the lad. I wonder what will happen to the £5m we will have following Pienaar and Vaughan transfers? (If it goes through...)
I remember his debut (I think it was anyway, correct me if I am wrong), I was at the game, hot summer's day on a Sunday at home against Palace. We won 4-0, Arteta scored a corking free-kick ? back when he could and he came on as a second half-sub and scored (I think).
I also remember him running into a palace defender chasing a ball (legally) and knocking the lad about 20 foot and I remember thinking, wow he looks a gem.
It didn't work out in the end, but good luck!
Best of luck to James... he deserves some. He was so exciting when he first came on the scene and looked a much better prospect than Anichebe. Can't believe that he's only 22. I think that £2.5 million is a fair price considering his history with injuries. I read that Norwich are also going after Jimmy Bullard, great talent but also injury prone. Good luck James!
Good Luck, James ? and well done, Everton... nice price. Let's see us use every penny on a couple of loanees!
If he can stay injury free ( I know its a big IF ) Norwich will have done a great bit of business.
Agree he always looked a better prospect than Victor but 2.5m is a great bit of business.Good luck to the lad.

Bugger... 2004-05 Match Reports are still missing from our archive...
But I did find
that Palace game, Mark (#7), and it confirms your good memories!
I think he scored the fourth just after coming on... slid it in from a low cross at the far post at the Gwladys St end.
Didn't he seem to be a great prospect then!? I remember a headline in one of the papers the following day... "Who Needs Rooney!"
C'est la vie.
I think the goal in the Palace game made Vaughan the youngest Premier League scorer, not long after James Milner had taken that title off a certain Mr Rooney!!!
Hmmm?
James Vaughan £2.5M.
Yobo (they've offered £2M we want £6M) Let's say we settle for £4M.
Moyesey is dead keen on Rodwell playing in the Under 21 tournament and I think that's to put him in the shop window. £15M?
Yakubu £2.5M?
Anichebe £1.50?
Who could we get for £24,000,001.50?
Knowing our luck, he'll probably score 15+ goals in the Premier League next season!
....including a hat-trick against us!
I'm bewildered; this lad has everything Anichebe hasn't. I loved JV and was hoping Moyes was loaning him out to see if hecould put a run of games together (which he's done).
The real reason he's been shipped out is he's obviously had a major falling out with Moyes.
I'm putting 2 + 2 together as, despite us persisting with his injuries for so many years ? which showed Moyes thought a lot of him ? he suddenly got thrown out the club.
In Moyes I trust... but will defo miss JV.
All the best and thanks for sticking that pen away in the FA Cup Semi-Final! :)
He will definitely get goals, Tony... just how many games he plays will be the issue.
Good luck, James, you have the ability, lad... I just hope your fitness levels and your injury problems are solved.
This sale could come back to bite us in the arse. That said, Moyes has rarely been wrong when offloading any talent in the past.
Good luck to the lad. I just hope he stays injury free for 36 games next season. £2.5 million isn't a bad price and things look to be moving pretty quickly. Let's hope there's some incoming transfers pretty quick too.
Sad to see him go but, if I'm honest, I think Norwich is probably about right for him. Shame he had so many injuries hindering his development but I think this is good news for everyone involved.
Hope he does well... just not against us.
Moyes will have had people watching him lots at Palace and I reckon has thought that while he has energy and commitment that he's not quite good enough for us.
As for Big Vic... he must be phenomenal in training!
Shame to see him go, I don't know what he's done to upset Moyes because I thought we certainly could've used him this season.
You dont know what Vaughan has done wrong????
Okay, he made his debut 6 seasons ago. And in those 6 seasons he has managed to score just 9 goals.
Which is what ? 1.5 goals a season!?!
So this guy averages 1.5 goals a season. And you wonder why Moyes is selling him????
I say well done Moyes. Get rid of the dead wood. The squad needs a complete overhaul.
Vaughan down, hopefully Yakubu, Yobo, Anichebe, Bilyaletdinov and Saha to follow.
Sensible sale and sensible price for all involved. A promising young player with Premier League experience for Norwich, a good, but injury prone lad who never quite came good for us and is down the pecking order cleared out from us. He could kick-on and be great (and I genuinely hope he does), but he could equally just be very average or fade out to lower leagues like so many before him. Assuming it goes ahead it'll be business done early with no dithering.
Now, if we can argue the Turks up to £3-4M for Yobo and offload the Yak for £3M+, we'll be starting on the right foot and Dave will know he's at least got a couple mill to play with.
Most likely though is that Rodwell deal is already all but agreed with United and only interest from City could beef it up. I reckon it'll be £10-15M+add-ons up to £20M for games played, trophies won, etc.
I'd like to see a bit of nouse with these sales.
Over the years, Everton always seem to be on the wrong end of contract clauses but wouldn't it be nice if Robert Elstone's included an end-of-season buy-back clause in case he hits 15 goals in the Prem with Norwich and remains fit?
The lad's 22, there should at least be a rising fee.
And another thing..
Carew's been released today, he's always struck me as a decent target man who has a bit about him.
As for Klose, I'd stay in there, ramp up the wage offer for ol Hawwy and then when he's spent all his budget, put in a derisory offer for Pavlyuchenko.

Sad to see him go in a way, the lad has a great attitude but the goals just didn't come. I would wish him the best of luck at at Norwich and at least he gets to stay in the PL.
I suspect though that the transfer fee has already been earmarked to disappear into oblivion along with Pienaar's.
I wish someone would offer £2.5M for Anichebe, now that would be fucking good business. Whatever the reason Moyes has closed the door shut in his face and wants him out and has done for some time. Good luck to him, I hope he does well at Norwich and scores a bagload, he won't have to try hard to score more than lard arse.
Question is, just like the £2.5/3M we got for Pienaar, how much of these proceeds will we see go towards the transfer budget?? Diddly squat, I reckon. BK will just be topping up his little piggy bank no doubt and get Moyes to come out with some spiel as he's normally instructed to.
He really wasn't that good. £2.5M is good business, honestly. He is NOT a Premier League striker and will NOT be their first choice striker all year, I can guarantee it. I wish him the best of luck but he's not good enough, especially with the fitness issue. Great lad though.
Dave Roberts at No 15... Don't you think you are being a bit unfair putting a price tag of £1.50 on the big lump? Come on, think about it, he ain't worth that... If we get a offer of 4p, I think we should rip off the arms of such fools.
Lot of Anichebe hate going on. Might not be the most talented player in the world but he's young and I think mostly tries his best. Let's not totally vilify him yet.
Sam
Nobody hates Victor!
He's just not good enough for this football club. If what we see is his best.. then that just proves it doesn't it?
Maybe Moyes will use the £2.5M for Vaughan to offer to a club that is reluctant to take Victor off our hands. Money well spent I say.
Al (#37)
Didn't you know??
We're selling Vaughan for £2.5M to pay for Anichebe's new contract.
Sam @35, No harm to you mate but he ain't 16 or 17 and if all you want is a guy who tries hard, I'll do it for a fraction of his wages, as will many others on here, and then we'll have a big squad of hard working but totally useless players led out by Captain Vic...
Dick @ 25? total bullshit mate. I'm no statto but can you tell me how many games he has started and completed in these past 6 seasons? How many times did he come on as sub for longer than 20 minutes?
The only time he was injury-free and had a bit of a run in the team was towards the end of the 07-08 season and he was scoring quite a bit if memory serves me right.
Personally I'm a bit gutted to see him go; as previous posts state something has went on behind the scenes clearly for him to be sold and that useless lazy twat Anichebe to still be here.
Anyway, good luck James.
Agreed, John... I think his goals-to-games ratio will give Dick a worthy kick up the backside.
Wrong person leaving the club. It should be Moyes. Putting his debut goal aside, he came on last season as sub at home to Burnley when we couldn't get a win from anywhere and he scored in minutes. We won the game.
He played in the next game in the FA Cup and scored again and was promptly dropped again. Just typical of this nightmare of a manager we have. His cup pen v Man Utd was a gem too. Oh and he's been fit all season!
Good luck, James.
James Vaughan will get a good reception when he comes home. I genuinely hope he has a great season.

It's now emerged that it's actually £1.5m upfront, with the rest being based on appearances.
Really sad to see him go, I was always a huge fan of him ? energy, attitude and athletisism. But the writing was on the wall; obviously, Moyes did not rate him anymore.
But I am quite sure JV will make Moyes look like a fool in a few years time. Good luck, JV ? have a good career.
Is Moyes going to get anyone better than Vaughan in for £2.5 million or less? Our striker department is short on numbers as it is and we sell a young unproven striker. I have a feeling this one will come back to bite us one day. If Moyes sold him for other reasons like he wanted to go then fine, if it was just to raise £2.5 million then I could think of names I'd rather have seen out the door sooner.
He'll get 15+ goals next season cos he ripped up the Championship last season? Absolute cock.
May I just add my name to a long list and wish James all the best at Norwich. Sorry to see the lad go; he will get a great reception when they come to us next season (unlike that lil' turd that fucked off to the Barcodes who I hope rots in their 2nd XI). I wonder if James had a chat with Ruddy first?
I agree with James M (No 46) in thinking we could find it hard to replace him for under £2.5M unless we can pick up the lad from Blackpool or Bothroyd(?) on the cheap. Failing that, a cheeky bid for a guy that plays just up the road at Peterboro' who is banging them in, by the name of Smith.
He'll probably be out for 3 months with the world's worst paper cut from his signing on fee cheque!
Always liked the guy, great attitude, work rate and effort. But 9 goals in 30 games at Championship level is hardly setting the world alight to be fair.

I don't care about how many times Vaughan has started or how many minutes he has played. The simple fact is this:-
Vaughan has been an Everton striker for the last 6 seasons and only scored 9 goals. That simply is unacceptable. For whatever reasons, Vaughan has not contributed enough over the last 6 seasons to justify his place in the squad.
Time for him to move on and maybe give his squad place to Hallam Hope.

How on earth is this unacceptable? How can you expect him to score when Moyes doesn't play him? How many goals has Victor scored in this time? What is his goals-to-games ratio like? Do you not find this unacceptable and the fact that he struggles to last a full 90 minutes?
What you're failing to realise is that it doesn't matter why he's not been scoring.
Maybe it's cause Moyes doesn't play him... Maybe it's cause of the injuries... Maybe it's just bad luck... I could not give a fuck. The fact is 9 goals in 6 seasons is unacceptable.
Vaughan has been taking up a place in the squad for the last 6 seasons and has done nothing to justify that spot. It's like if you had toothache and went to the dentist 6 times and still had toothache but the dentist claimed, "Well, sorry, the first time the x-ray machine was broken, then my drill wouldn't work, then I didn't take enough of the tooth away..."
Would you accept that? No you would not want to hear excuses. You would be pissed off after 6 visits and no results and look for another dentist.
I do not care about the excuses James Vaughan has. I'm sure he has been unlucky. I'm sure the manager has not always given him a starting place. I don't give a fuck, though: 6 seasons and 9 goals... Goodbye.
Yea but Dick, if you never had the chance of going to the Dentist, what do you expect? Perfect teeth?
Your comments are ridiculous.
No matter what anybody says, there is no way to get around the fact that James Vaughan failed to contribute enough to justify his place at Everton.
6 seasons, 9 goals.
Sorry but bye-bye.
Dick, the most league goals Anichebe has ever achieved for Everton in a single season was 3 and that was back in 2006-07, he hasn't scored a league goal since 2009-10, which was just one goal, and he gets a new contract! This season, he has been involved in 16 league games, had 15 shots and not a single goal. He has appeared in 92 league games for Everton and has scored 7 league goals since 2005-06.
James Vaughan's stats, he has appeared in 47 league games since 2004-05 and has scored 7 league goals (half as many games as Vic with the same league goal tally), his highest league tally in a single season being 4 in 2006-07. His league goal rate is considerably higher per game.
Gavin
Why are you talking about Anichebe?
Get rid of that useless fucker too.
Both Vaughan and Anichebe have failed to contribute to the club over the last 6 years.
Sorry but neither player deserves a spot in the Everton squad. Vaughan is gone and hopefully Anichebe will follow soon.
JV
Thanks for your time with us, sorry you had such a bad run of injuries. Still rate you as a good player and hope your career takes a huge upturn. You deserve some luck, lad.
Dick, I mentioned Anichebe as he too had a serious injury came, back from it, and gets games, despite being utterly hopeless as a striker; JV comes back from injury, scores a good cup goal, a great penalty, and gets dropped and shipped out.
He scored goals and gets pumped when no longer injured; Anichebe gets a new contract and scores less per game, he's three months older than Vaughan and hasn't proved anything with even more chances.
Anichebe isn't good enough as you say but, given he was given a contract over Vaughan, you have to wonder why? We were desperate for striker cover after Saha got crocked again and Vaughan was shipped out ? why not Anichebe?
My guess is Moyes doesn't want two shit strikers in the squad. Which he would have had with Anichebe and Vaughan. So he decides to get rid of one of them.
I am no Anichebe fan but he does offer the advantage of playing both striker and right wing. That's why I guess he got the nod over Vaughan. But ideally I bet Moyes would like to shift both of them and actually have some decent strikers in the squad.
The report that James Vaughan had signed for them prompted me to have a peek at Norwich City's website, whereupon I noticed that another former Everton player, John Ruddy, seems to have fallen upon better times. The stats show that John played in all but one of the Canaries Championship matches this season.
Norwich shipped 58 goals, which was the worst of the top 6. Still, he can't have been too bad to have held down their top spot given they finished second. I also see that we are playing them in a pre-season friendly on 31 July 2011. Good to see a former player, who was with us for some time but never got a look in, making it to the Premier League.

The point I think we are trying to make is why has Moyes persisted with using Anichebe who didn't even score last season and not give Vaughan a chance at all, when clearly he is more of a livewire and scores more goals!
While selling Vaughan on the back of a 1000 injuries isn't a bad thing, just why on earth does Victor Anichebe still play for our football club?
Because nobody is going to buy Victor Anichebe.
And we dont have any money to replace him.
Is it any wonder we have no money to replace Anichebe when we offer him a new contract. And if no 1 is going to buy him then you use common sense and let him run down his contract and then replace his place in the squad with a kid from the academy because let's face facts that isn't really a gamble.
