No it's not Jack Rodwell it is one for the future apparently.

Well if John Lundstram is as good as Jack Rodwell... then we may just have another very average player.

I have to agree with Dick, I'm afraid, Charlie.
I would say Rodwell is slightly above average... as he can pass with both feet.

Dick, you're being a tad harsh, mate. Lad's only just 20 and been injured a fair amount this season.
I've heard good things about Lundstram... Him, Hope, Dier (if he returns) and Barkley could possibly be the most exciting batch of youngsters we've had in a while.

Dick, you can't seriously lump Rodwell in the Cadamarteri and Branch bracket. They were brutal.
If he is another Hibbert or Osman, well and good. Both great servants to Everton FC.

To those that doubt Rodwell's ability, I wouldn't be so hasty. He's struggled with injury all season and is still only a kid in a very difficult position to master. Patience and encouragement would go a long way. I believe he'll be the best English centre-mid in the league soon.
Lundstram is the only other EFC player together with Hallam Hope to have a regular first team place in the England Under-17s team. He reached the European Championship semi-finals (where Hope finished as England's top scorer) earlier this year and has been selected again with Hope to join England in the Under-17s World Cup in Peru later this Summer.
Very young but must be a half-decent holding midfielder. Looking forward to him breaking through.

It's always "one for the future" ? that's what gets me. It's always jam tomorrow, free beer tomorrow... well, I want jam and free beer next season ? not in five years bloody time.

I'm fingers crossed hoping the Man Utd come in with £20M for Rodwell. We should take the money and run. How long is Rodwell going to be a prospect? Is he a better player this season than last? No.
The other Jack... Wilshere ? compare Rodwell with him. Wilshere has come on in leaps and bounds and he's the same age. Terrific player now.
There is no garantee that Rodwell will be the player people expect him to be. If we keep him we are taking a big chance. Now with £20M, we could seriously improve the side with that.
Just ask yourselves, what has Rodwell contributed to the side this year? Very little... and as for mentioning injuries, well, that makes it all the more worrying, he could turn out to be a crock. It's not worth taking a chance on him in my opinion.

I've always thought that Rodwell is a ball playing CB and I suspect that, if Man Utd do buy him, that's where he'll end up playing.

I was going to bring up the fact that Barcelona's game is all about passing it sideways, but you beat me to it with the reference to their midfielders. And no, we are not comparing Rodwell's talent to those two. Just pointing out the ridiculous criticism about Rodwell having the audacity to pass the ball to the open man, therefore retaining possession, instead of forcing a pass forward and risking losing possession.
Funnily enough that's all Barcelona's game is, and they are universally loved for it. But put them in England and sadly they would get the shit kicked out of themselves and be stifled. But apparently hoofing it forward is bad, passing it sideways retaining possession is bad. So the only good thing is if a player is at all times playing a perfect pass forward resulting in a goal?? Can anyone name me a player who does this? Because I watch the likes of Manchester United play this possession game all the time and it's quite successful.

The difference between them and us is the purchasing power to get the likes of Berbatov, Rooney, and Chicharito to make the right runs and finish the play when it presents itself. But let' just run Rodwell off too. I'm sure the ToffeeWeb critics are right and the rest of the managers and media are all wrong about him.

A season destroyed by 3 seperate injuries with significant layoffs for each.
Played in numerous positions. (Right mid, right back, off the front man, advanced mid, left mid, deep lying mid).
Jack is still only 20 years old and due to the above has not had a sustained run in one position. On the majority of occasions he has played, he has had to deal with coming back from injuries and being played all over the place while trying to contribute to a side which has struggled badly, very badly.
Christ, even the more established players who have been afforded sustained runs in their preferred positions have struggled!!!
It is only my opinion, but I honestly believe Jack will become a powerhouse midfielder in a similar mold to that twat across the park, Gerrard.
To compare him to Wilshere is nothing short of insane! They are both completely different types of players playing in completely different types of teams.
The level of abuse and doubt levelled at the lad this season really does make me wonder if some supporters have got a fucking clue about football.

I second every word John Shaw has just said, and would like to add any complaints about Rodwell's progress should be directed towards the way Moyes is handling him.
John Lundstram walks, talks, sleeps, dreams football for Everton FC; he's got a great head on him for the sport.

He amazes me how fast he's able to think on the ball, never shy to give a quick fast-thinking pass.
Hallam Hope, Ross Barkley, John Lundstram are the future of EFC ? Don't forget that!

I tell you what, if all of these youngsters actually fulfill their potential, Man Utd will have a cracking team... And we'll probably still be in debt.
David (20) & John (22) ? well said... Rodwell is only young, been injured but wants to play proper football. Sell him to Manure? Never!!
One good feature of our Academy players is that most of them were born in Liverpool!

Kenwright must have been upset watching last night's game because there is no way based on that performance that Fergie will think spending £15 million on Rodwell will solve his problems.
In the event that these kids do come through, what will they be nicknamed? 'The Moyes Maestroes' perhaps... much like the 'Fergie Fledgings' and the 'Busby Babes' before them.

Barcelonas style is more about passing to a player who is facing the right way ? forwards!! Yes, it might mean they pass sideways but it's almost always to a player facing the most appropriate direction!!

My cousin is Johns cousin and he is meant to be a very good player, they are known as 'Lunny' as well so Tom (post 25) might be related to him, hope the lad does well if he is the blue that's always good news.
