Signing a new contract for everton today! #buzzing...then off on holiday 2moro can't wait!
Young reserve James Wallace is signing a new contract tomorrow... it's about time he breaks through to the first team isn't it? And with a new contract and him "buzzing" is it possible he will break through?

Every player is different, matures at a different rate, and develops in a dissimilar way. Currently, we loan players out to championship sides (such as Coleman to Blackpool last season) if it in their best interest. Wallace himself was on loan at Stockport County (League 2, though got relegated), so the only point you seem to be making is that this should be a regimented thing.
I don't see what is wrong with the current way in which we loan players out.
As far as giving up on them while they're still teenagers? Can't see that at all. They still having filling-out to do, for; physically and mentally.
Will all that, come on young Wallace!

One year deal doesn't show a huge amount of faith.
Wallace first broke into our squad about 3 years ago.
What do you honestly think was gained by him going out on loan to a side 3 divisions below us?
Maybe the rough and tumble has hardened him a bit, or a few loud character's have brought him out of his shell but do our prospects have what it takes in terms of ability if they have to drop to that level to get a game at nineteen?
IMO that hasn't done him any favours in terms of experience. But more importantly doesn't tell us if he's ready to take a 1st team squad place, which a loan should be all about for young players.
I.e. Sturridge has proven at Bolton that he can score goals at this level and is worth a place in their squad.
However you've contradicted yourself now. By giving further information you have added credence to my point that each player has to be treated individually. Moyes and his backroom team decided on the way to handle James and whether you agree or not, whatever he has learnt with Stockport has got him a professional contract
Think about this: even our players like Fellani & Arteta leave their countries young enough to sweat it out. By the time they are 2 or 24 years old, they are already able to adjust to different leagues. How many English players are prepared to learn a different language, get their feet wet by playing in a different league etc???
Well, between playing in the reserves indefinitely, or getting loaned out to lower divisions where they are more likely to get lumps kicked out of them, why not try the French league, Dutch or the Belgian league? Or even the Danish & Portugese league? Some people call them Mickey Mouse leagues, but they get to compete in the Europa League & the Champions League. You only get experience by playing. In these places, the money is obviously a lot less, and it's going to be less comfortable.
This is where I see many continental players being hungrier than the British/English. By all means, aim to play too in the Spanish league. In fact, I think that the Spanish 2nd Division will give the youngsters a better education than the Championship.
The Scots of the 60s, 70s and 80s were hungry enough... they moved out of their comfort zones, sought to move down south. Yes, many who did were not good enough, but the very willingness to fight it out beyond the comforts of the familiar is something I believe is important.
Perhaps our "conveyor belt" of young players will be better served to be spending some time out there.
I was very interested to see that James Wallace is "just" 5ft-8in tall... and a midfielder... Could it possibly be that the lad has some sublime ball control and passing skills that have "saved" him from the almost inevitable 'small player' axe?

Not exactly long term. I would presume that next season is his last chance to prove himself.

Apparently he did ok at Stockport who finished bottom of League 2.
And that qualifies him to be in the starting line up for Everton? A Top 7 Premier League side???
I'm struggling to see the contradiction.
He was already a professional. Has been for quite some time now.
I doubt it's the three months at relegated Stockport that got him his extra year.
I can't see it being playing with pro's either he does that day in day out. Not sure he needs the experience of playing to a massive Stockport faithful either TBH.
He is not what I consider a young lad. At age 19 I would think if he was anywhere near good enough for us he would have going out on loan to a much better side in much better circumstances.
That's my point about the way players who are coming through are loaned out by us. I struggle to see any rhyme or reason to it.
If it helped his development or put him in the shop window I would be the first to praise the club, I don't think this has and you could add the loans of Turner, Nsiala, Agard and Silva to that. Although I read somewhere Silva went due to homesickness.

Lets start the campaign now to get James Wallace in the Everton starting 11.
If he can be ok for bottom of Division 2 side Stockport then surely he can drive Everton to the Champions League.
Actually, there's a germ of an idea in there!

I think a season in the Championship would do him the world of good for his development and let us see if he has what it takes at a challenging level.
At the moment it seems a bit haphazard. We should either be grooming them for our 1st team or trying to generate a fee.
Something along the lines of;
Age 17/18 - 3 months at league 1/2 depending on maturity.
Age 18/19 - 6-12 months in the championship.
If they don't perform at either level thens it's fair to say they probably won't be good enough to play for Everton.
