The next England Manager

 23 Comments: First  |  Last

From what's been said in the press (and most of the time you don't believe it) Harry Redknapp will be the next England Manager, but who will take over from him at Spurs? The popular choice of Spurs fans is our David Moyes.

They have money, they have a good squad and decent prospects to take on the big boys. They've had a taste of the Champions League and will want another go. If that happens, who do we get?

Didn't we just do all this twaddle with Villa?

I will be astounded if Moyes goes anywhere near White Hart Lane... except in the front seat of the Everton bus on 13 August!

Wasn't Moyes supposed to have been the popular choice with the Villa fans as well?

Let's hope he's a popular choice with the Spurs Board as well - I think they paid Pompey about £8million for Redknapp.

I would say there are only two jobs Moyes would consider. Man Utd the obvious one, when Ferguson retires, and Arsenal if Wegner goes in the next couple of years.

Liverpool ? no chance... and Villa and Spurs would only be side-steps in my opinion. Yes, Spurs had a good season but they will crack when Modric goes. Man City will only appoint top pedigree famous international managers until they buy the league... and Chelsea also operate a similar strategy.

Any other clubs I don't think he would even consider unless Everton sacked him but obviously that won't happen with Bill on board. Yes, the old firm clubs are an obvious link but, after 10 years in the best league in the world, I can't see him going to Scotland until the latter stages of his career (including the national job).

Who do we get? I think he is a smug prick as a man but I respect him as a manager... Mark Hughes!

Spurs fans are not too dissimilar to redshite fans in terms of unrealistic expectations. I doubt Moyes would be 1st choice for a typical supporter.

Do Spurs have any money? Think its a sell to buy this summer at Spurs. About time too. Sick of Spurs blowing us out of the water with signings every summer.

Moyes will go where the big money is no matter what and that may be before the end of this season. Another ''fair season'' will not be acceptable by all concerned and I am sure even Moyes will feel enough is enough and move on.
We will all have a better picture after 10/12 games.

Yes, Colin, I'm sick of Spurs blowing us out of the water every summer...but this summer I'm also sick of Leicester, Swansea, Wolves , Stoke, Uncle Tom Fuckin Cobbley and all blowing us out etc.

Tom @6.

The only job Moyes will get offered for big money will be Celtic. None of the so-called big 4-5 will offer him a job, simply because he is a defensive-minded loser who will win nothing.

He proved that to me in the Carling semi against Chelsea. 1 down with the homeleg to play and the bastard went 4-5-1 and handed them the tie. I've never forgiven him for that surrender.

Remarkable how circumstance has raised the Moyes stock.

His continuance in the demise of McClaren, O'Neill, Benitez, Hodgson, Hughes, Ancelloti, Allardyce and so on is now so rare each passing year he steps up the managerial ladder - without actually moving.

He never used to get mentioned a few years ago.

Just surreal, if you look on other club's sites they say all the familiar "punching....weight", "no money", "miracles at everton" - I must be wrong.....but...

"I AM NOT A NUMBER.....I AM A FREE MAN!"

Redknapp England manager?

Well...possibly, but with any luck, he'll be doing bird for conspiring to defraud the tax (when IS that case?)

Hope so (and I hope they stick him in a cell with an Arsenal-supporting cross between Lukewarm and Harry Grout and he spends the next five years having his 'tea-towel holder' destroyed).

Fucking Chas and Dave were also popular with Spurs fans. They also love a good cup run now and again.

I live in London, and this is news to me. He certainly isn't the popular choice among their many, many, many fans in the media.

They'll demand another big name foreigner if Redknapp goes. The problem with Spurs fans is that they think they're as big as Arsenal, so they always want what Arsenal have got (but they'll never admit that!). They'll try to find another Wenger.

The case was reported in the papers as due to be heard in May or July! Now in August and nothing. I wonder what is happening!?

I think Moyes would jump at the chance to manage Spurs - but I think he would only leave us at the end of his contract. I don't see him renewing unless circumstances change.

They've got money to spend, decent revenue and a much better business behind the team. I also don't think that he'll get offered a really top club to manage until he does a bit more, so Spurs would potentially give him the platform to get into the Champions League.

Bill's Everton have been carried by Moyes and, unless the present financial situation changes dramatically then Everton peaked about 3 years ago and Moyes can only lose by staying.

Also, I don't believe for a second that the FA would allow someone with any character whatsoever become England manager.

I live 'darn 'ere' amongst "the yids" and this story has been doing the rarnds (ok - enough of the cockney shite) for a while now. The taxi driving season ticket holder for Spurs who lives opposite is adamant that Moyes will be the next manager when or if redknob leaves.

I agree that Hawwy has a questionable past and this might be an obstacle for the eng-er-land job.

I think we could have a problem if the ginger (or mousy brown) one leaves.

Tom (17) - I remember about a year back, talking to a feller in an alehouse in Kennington (near the Oval) about it and I said something along the lines of "Yeah I think it's quite a serious charge, tax fraud". I wish I could remember EXACTLY his response, but it was along the lines of "Oh it's more serious than tax fraud, it's conspiracy to defraud the tax" or...something. It was all a it complicated but he reckoned if it was a guilty, old runny fried-egg eyes would do a fair bit of time (crosses fingers, toes, legs, nuts..)
